It's amazing how such an evil character can have such a beautiful theme song, specially that beautiful piano part. Makes you feel like Khan has a point in doing what he does and makes you like him.
I totally understand anyone's reasons for not liking the new Star Trek movies but Giacchino knocked it out of the park with every single track, and that's more than enough for me to revisit them from time to time (though I really love the cast, too).
The first time I heard this in the cinema, I knew it wasn't the last time I heard it as it was so amazing. And here I am, listening to one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard.
This is not only a beautiful song, it has so much emotion that it almost makes my brain hurt. It makes you truly consider Khan's position; get a true grasp of what he feels. He is trying to save his family. His suffering has gone on for years. The raw emotion in this song is what truly makes it great.
And then of course when it gets more explosive and faster paced you start getting into the fact he's clearly unbalanced and insane. Willing to go above and beyond what many would consider rational.
@@williambeck2372 how many rats do we manipulate, maim, and kill in experimentation for the betterment of our own 'crew' (species)? Would we look much different than rats to Khan? Would he be wrong? Movie music gets overlooked so often. I mean its one part of the whole experience of a movie, but sometimes you get a whole new respect from the perspective of listening to just the score, it tells a story in itself, almost like a childs innocence at its start as it progresses to get darker and darker as it goes(grows) on.
It resenbles what Motzart did. He often began with a simple, primary clean theme usually in the upper registers then overlaid it with another darker theme. As the work goes along he blends them and adds to them until they become a larger, often darker thing. Very Motzartish.
This is a theme I want to hear again in one of the next movies of the new franchise... It is so deep and meeningful, it makes you remember Khan isn't a monster. He's not an evil man, even if he is uberly dangerous and a bit too resentful xD This melody is just incredible... I can't get it out of my head. A drop of despair, darkness and hate, mixed with a touch of bravery.
It tells you the filmmakers did a good job when Star Treks greatest bad guy is seen as compassionate. Truth about Khan is he is the most ruthless warlord in all of earth history according to Star Trek. He made Hitler look like a chump.
Every time I hear the intro to this song I have to stop and close my eyes for a moment I don't know why it has such a big effect on me lol This is such an emotional and beautiful song
This movie was amazing. I just wish they gave us MOREE of a background story to Khan. forreal I wouldn't even mind seeing as how he and the 72 others like Khan were engineered to be the "best" ultimately being condemned as war criminals. I wouldn't even mind if they turned that into a movie lol...
the backgrounds pretty much the same as in the original series, so if you watch the episode of that with Khan in, it goes into greater detail about his past there
Since the Eugenics Wars came before the timeline shift Khan's history largely remained the same. See TOS "Space Seed" and the film "Wrath of Khan" for more details.
Yeah... thats much better than that silly Herman Melville.. and its underlying theme of Polar Nemeses.. or its cautionary tale of Anger beyond Reason.. or the underlying theme of Tyrant men in command of Ships at sea, and how their crew pay for the captains lack of humility.. or the lesson to be learned about rage being ones primary motivator. This IS Khan "Aye, aye! it was that accursed white whale that razeed me; made a poor pegging lubber of me for ever and a day!" Then tossing both arms, with measureless imprecations he shouted out: "Aye, aye! and I’ll chase him round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition’s flames before I give him up. And this is what ye have shipped for, men! to chase that white whale on both sides of land, and over all sides of earth, till he spouts black blood and rolls fin out. But at what cost? Khan put that poor man in a terrible position. Either watch his daughter die or help him blow up a Starfleet facility in exchange for curing her.
Khan is a villain I can connect with. I really connect with him on the level of doing anything to protect your family, and doing everything to save them. I really like how he's not a villain just to be a villain, he has a backstory and a motive. It's not like he hated Starfleet right from the start - that was Marcus's fault - he just wanted his family back. Yes his methods were extreme, but to his mind it was the only way to get his crew, his family, back safely. Khan is my favorite villain of all time, and always will be.
+sumo73 I like both versions of Khan. Its amazing to see this version though I wish they had gotten an actual Indian to play him both times. But he's so bad ass. A true warrior. To bad we didn't see Marla McGivers

The worry was if you put an Indian guy in to play the bad guy people will deem it as racist. Strange since they put a black British guy in Star Trek Beyond, Idris Elba. Seriously dude, seek therapy for whatever trigger warning, micro aggression, safe space bullshit you're addicted to! And before you try to make ANY, and I mean ANY sarcastic or witty comebacks, read what you posted and answer me one question: HOW THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THE OTHER GUY AN IDIOT SIMPLY FOR POSTING HIS OPINION?! And Trekkies wonder why they are sometimes considered THE most toxic as fuck, hard to please fandom!
And the fact that your profile pic is from a moronic cartoon like Spongebob, plus the fact that your retort sounds like an argument some prepubescent 8 year old would try to make, says it all. Seriously? I don't have a picture so that automatically invalidates my previous statement? I'm sure in some fucked up fantasy world, that rhetoric would make perfect sense, but the problem with that kind of thinking is..............THIS IS REALITY! If you're gonna go through the trouble of trying to troll anyone about any responses they make about whatever myopic, asinine comments you post, do yourself and the rest of the internet community a favor and learn how to do it right! Who knows, you just may get it right and win at life for once one day. There, did I respond fast enough for you this time?
I know that there are many that would disagree and even go as far as to call it sick, but I empathize extremely well with Benedict’s portrayal of Khan. I can’t help but feel nothing but pity and sadness for him throughout the entirety of the story. Although he may have shall we say, misplaced motives, he has a heart too; the torment and despair he experiences through the loss of those he considers to be his only family and the anger that wells within him is no less than a perfect veiled depiction of human nature itself. Love gives way to loss. Loss gives way to pain. Pain gives way to anger. And anger gives way to hate. The depiction of Khan in the film is no less than a work of genius direction and portrayal of human emotion in its most raw form.
Star Trek : Into Darkness might be one of Giacchino's best soundtracks. Intricate, epic in scope, intimate in feel and wonderfully composed. I think it stands toe to toe with War for the Planet of Apes, Spiderman Homecoming and Coco. What a composer this man is.
Best part about that piano melody (called "London Calling"), is that it was written last minute. The scene where ******spoilers ahead**** the starfleet officer he gets to destroy Section 8 visits his daughter, had dialogue from the doctor, him and his wife. However, when Giaccino saw Cumberbatch on Screen he wrote this piece, Abrams thought it was so awesome that he dubbed it over all the dialogue.
what a beautiful and just damned awesome song... you can just feel the emotions of the character as it gets near the end...starts softly but ends with a bang.
At about 7:32, I am almost in tears. Michael Giacchino really hit the nail on the head when it comes to capturing the tortured emotion in Kahn. Hats off to you, Mr. Giacchino.
Great sadness, grief, and torment mixed with inner rage and anger... Sounds like how I've been without access to the one I love...not unlike Khan without the men and women he holds most dear...
It says something about Star Trek that the main villain's theme sounds like this. I really love the new Trek films, they've injected the passion, the energy and the buzz that Trek has never really had, along with a good dose of attitude and some incredible special effects... but then the haters think over-use of lense flare makes a bad film. Guess they should be grateful they've got new films to bitch about, instead of moaning about Insurrection and Nemesis...
an entire month worth of episodic material to watch spanning 6 completely unique series, 2 months if you slept between some episodes, 400 books. 10 full length films, Games on every platform known going back to the 70's, a fan fiction community only second to the XENA warrior community... and ALL that material... stayed true to the technological, biological, economic, philanthropic, sociologic and philosophic canon...about people, races, planets, places, religions, and histories that we care about and have been developing for 60 years... and JJ Abrams makes a movie that is nothing but Fan Service, and then gets all the fan service wrong.. and you think we are pissed about lens flares?
+Bartacomus Kidd I dont mind Spok having depth but they didn't have to make him into such a bitch boy whipped simp. He should have marooned Ohura on the kronos. Kahn was a drama quire boy. S T Beyond needed more Lens flair.
This sound is as much the character of Khan as the actor, n my opinion, one wouldn't have been as strong without the other...this isn't a song, it's a performance...one that I think is brilliant and beautiful...
@Darth Cameron I agree, although there was an underlying "smoothness" to CumberKhan. The way he spoke, his posture when he both sat and stood, and his chilling glare were great.
"You should have let me sleeeeep" :)"Well Kirk looks like I am app to return you to your crew after all No ship should go down without her Captain." :)
3:43 I love this shift from slight hope to anger. It really emphasizes Khan's desperation to get his crew back and that he will go to any length to do so.
I was actually rooting for Khan throughout the entire movie. Don't get me wrong, I don't advocate psychopathy and evil smart, but it just felt more logical for Khan to succeed in his endeavours.
demonblade001 He isn't like any other Admiral and I'd rather live in Soviet Russia than any of the country's Khan used to rule over. This guy was a monster.
There was me thinking that Bane was the best villian from films in recent years. Khan was awesome on so many levels, for the most part I liked him but I also felt sorry for him and this theme fits so well.
It would be cool but I'm hoping ST 4 reintroduces the Cold War with the Klingon Empire and possibly bring back a classic Klingon villain like Chang or Kor.
It's called London Calling, but yes, i take it as his theme. It's so. . . sad and. . . sweet. . . and full of home. Oh yes, Khan and JSpoks are my favourite characters:)
Love how this just gets darker and more hectic as it progresses.

so im not quite sure what hes on about when he hollars "I am Khan" like anyone in that reboot would know.. or care.. but he can jump around like Neo in the matrix.. so.. uhmm.. eehhhhh... yeeeeah.. uhhh..
Vinnie Hatcher for fuck's sake dude! It's just an opinion goddamn you! You remember those don't you?!
Hands John Farmer a Kleenex.. welcome to the group.
Bartacomus Kidd thanks. But I won't be needing it. Lol.
I would agree with you, except Khan was the pretty much Hitler of WW3 before he escaped on the seed ship.
Khan, general zod and lockdown had memorable theme songs
Lockdown had such a intense theme
Star Trek : Into Darkness might be one of Giacchino's best soundtracks.
Intricate, epic in scope, intimate in feel and wonderfully composed.
I think it stands toe to toe with War for the Planet of Apes, Spiderman Homecoming and Coco.
What a composer this man is.
Best part about that piano melody (called "London Calling"), is that it was written last minute. The scene where ******spoilers ahead**** the starfleet officer he gets to destroy Section 8 visits his daughter, had dialogue from the doctor, him and his wife. However, when Giaccino saw Cumberbatch on Screen he wrote this piece, Abrams thought it was so awesome that he dubbed it over all the dialogue.
i must say Michael Giacchino has amazing talent a he can bring new thing to composing amazing soundtracks :D love this song loads :D
what a beautiful and just damned awesome song... you can just feel the emotions of the character as it gets near the end...starts softly but ends with a bang.
At about 7:32, I am almost in tears. Michael Giacchino really hit the nail on the head when it comes to capturing the tortured emotion in Kahn. Hats off to you, Mr. Giacchino.
You think your world is safe
This is an illusion
I keep coming back to this piece whenever I'm in deep emotional distress...it just fits so well with emotions of that nature...
no wonder this makes benedict tears down while listen this beautifully soundtrack..I love michael giacchino
Great sadness, grief, and torment mixed with inner rage and anger...
Sounds like how I've been without access to the one I love...not unlike Khan without the men and women he holds most dear...
This is just beautiful. I think it's already one of my favorite soundtracks ever
This song gives me chills.
It's so good, so epic.
Am I the only one who admires Khan? He seems to be the only one who knows what he is doing.
Yes. You are the only one who admires Khan. You seem to be the only one who doesn't know what you are talking about.
Thomas. You are not alone. I also admire KHAN!!!!
ME TOO !!!!!!!!! KHAN is BETTER !
JinXxPanda LookingForTheDoctor At what? xD
Aerdna Rodríguez Everything!!! XD
+Adam McLaughlin Insurrection and Nemesis?
+Guardsman Boris star trek films
an entire month worth of episodic material to watch spanning 6 completely unique series, 2 months if you slept between some episodes, 400 books.
+Bartacomus Kidd who said that jj abrams wanted a movie for the star trek fans?
+Bartacomus Kidd I dont mind Spok having depth but they didn't have to make him into such a bitch boy whipped simp. He should have marooned Ohura on the kronos.
Kahn was a drama quire boy.
S T Beyond needed more Lens flair.
SO BEAUTIFUL FROM 7:35 ON
Snack Zyder Do you know the name of the music ? Pls
in the official soundtrack the part from 7:35 is include in the tracks : "The Kronos wartet" , and "The San Fran Hustle"
There's a small drumbeat in the background of the song that reminds me of the Master from "Doctor Who".
Woah! I didn't notice that at all until I read your comment.
Woah! I didn't notice that at all until I read your comment.
OMG yer right! Now I have to go and watch all of Doctor Who on Netflix again... :D
The heartbeat of time lord!
"Wardrums of my soul" Master/Khan...
I cannot get over how beautiful this piece of music is. ❤️
Great movie and the first movie also and this soundtrack is epic
Definitely should have had more Khan scenes.
Best theme in Star Trek ever. You could feel Khan's kindness for his family whilst feeling the anger as well.
This sound is as much the character of Khan as the actor, n my opinion, one wouldn't have been as strong without the other...this isn't a song, it's a performance...one that I think is brilliant and beautiful...
+Jay R finally .. youre in the right place :D
9:48 is when it gets absolutely masterful
Easily the best star trek movie of late, the music certainly helped.
Cumberbatch was amazing, but Montalban's original Khan (in Space Seed and Star Trek II) will always be my favorite Star Trek villain.
this song is OP
New Khan: I am better.
Old Khan: At what?
New Khan: Everything.
I'm still waiting for someone to clip crop a khan vs khan video lol
I say Cumberbatch and Montalbán are equal, brilliant in different ways.
@Darth Cameron I agree, although there was an underlying "smoothness" to CumberKhan. The way he spoke, his posture when he both sat and stood, and his chilling glare were great.
@Darth Cameron Benedict is too brutal😅 I can hear the bone crack😨
@@kylelindquist7634 He was so amazing as Khan! He brought Star Trek to the women and turned them into Trekkies.
Outstanding! I listen only this soundtrack since 4 days.... I can't stop! Thank you for mixing two best songs from the movie :)
I want see more Khan in Star Trek!
He is only reason why i watched this movie!
I agree
"You should have let me sleeeeep" :)"Well Kirk looks like I am app to return you to your crew after all No ship should go down without her Captain." :)
That's wonderful, not only for Tsar Trek fans..I love it
King Trek fans?
Masterpiece.
so peaceful but so menacing..
Every time I listen to this a tear drops down. What a track.
3:43 I love this shift from slight hope to anger. It really emphasizes Khan's desperation to get his crew back and that he will go to any length to do so.
God the buildup to that hectic ending of Ode To Harrison sends chills down my spine
How has this flown under the radar it's awesome!
Still great even after 6 Years and still I am full of hope that the next Star Trek Movie will be with Khan again :D
I love this music. So much different feelings throughout it all. Amaziiiiing.
It needed Benedict Cumberbatch to create the mystery and enigma that is Khan. Only he and no one else could have elicited such emotion and mystery.
Love the piano part! :)
Wow this is amazing, this was the first Star Trek movie I watched and the only one so far. Hopefully we can change that sometime soon.
I was actually rooting for Khan throughout the entire movie. Don't get me wrong, I don't advocate psychopathy and evil smart, but it just felt more logical for Khan to succeed in his endeavours.
Logical? He would have killed billions.
***** but when he cried about his crew I just believed it and understood his motives
*****
Like any other country. Or Admiral.
demonblade001 He isn't like any other Admiral and I'd rather live in Soviet Russia than any of the country's Khan used to rule over. This guy was a monster.
*****
I was referring to the admiral in the movie. And those two country's would be almost the same.
A truly heart - touching theme .
Khan is back , a multilayered and complex character .
Absolutely fantastic movie villain
Fantastic mix! I'm so glad you brought the piano theme back at the end, that melody is my favourite.
There was me thinking that Bane was the best villian from films in recent years.
Khan was awesome on so many levels, for the most part I liked him but I also felt sorry for him and this theme fits so well.
I love this theme so much. *cries*
how beautiful , i find the melody very soothing ^^
is almost as good as the imperial march in star wars, shiver me go!!!
Oh! this is great to listening in the morning, energy boost and feel epic!
Yes, I did. I wanted this theme to keep going. I couldn't help but extend it myself. :)
Oh my God, this song is amazing and wonderful! I'm love with him.
it literally gives me the chills!!amazing music,wow...
This is freaking awesome!! Two of the best songs
Khan was so enigmatic. I hope they have him for a bit in the next movie, even though trekkies would probably be outraged.
No, they need to wait, bring him back in Star Trek Iv as a "badass".
It would be cool but I'm hoping ST 4 reintroduces the Cold War with the Klingon Empire and possibly bring back a classic Klingon villain like Chang or Kor.
Everyday I have to listen this!
It's called London Calling, but yes, i take it as his theme. It's so. . . sad and. . . sweet. . . and full of home. Oh yes, Khan and JSpoks are my favourite characters:)
I kind of broke my computer listening to this just now
It is crazy how Khan's figure is still ageing so well in my brain chemistry.
I may not love the new films, but the musical score in them is awesome. I like this theme especially.
Amazing and powerful sound.
I Love Benedict
John Harisson's Theme .... chills ! *-*
07:36 just gorgeous .
