Appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I had one small issue I would caution others about on one of the two magazines I worked on. When pushing the punch into the hole "until you hear it click" I had a few pieces chip off of my spring plate from the inside of the magazine. It might be better to get your grip with the pliers, then use your punch to just slightly depress the pin on the spring plate so that you don't cause breakage. Still very much appreciate your time and effort to make the video. It was a helpful reminder, since I haven't had to do this in probably 6 years and completely forgot how to get that sucker off.
Thank you SIR, I asked the goofballs at the range to help me with the disassembly and they said nothing about having to squeeze the magazine body, nothing. Had I not found your helpful video I would have been stuck and probably in tears. Thank you so much! I can put the Sawzall away now.
Great video to supplement the verbal instructions that come with the new base plates. Thanks for taking the time to make and post the video - much appreciated.
Damn, you are a life saver, Man! I was already about to hammer my mag out of frustration failing to remove it! 😆😅🤣 you're not only a genius but a very good son giving credit to your Dad where credit is due. Thanks a lot, Man!
I've done it this way for years and have never broke/cracked a magazine. With the leverage you get from the channel locks, it doesn't take much of a squeeze to get the plate off. Just remember..... Take it easy.
Excellent video! I just did some base plates for my G29SF and work perfectly like you just demonstrated. No need for a fancy base plate tool. Thank you brotha! 👍🏾✊🏾
Don't use Channies with teeth grooves. Buy a pair of Knipex smooth jaw pliers. Not only do they not have teeth, they close parallel so you have an equal amount of force against the pressing edge of the jaws, instead of only "pinching" pressure at the tip. They are so handy. For taking mags apart, pressing in roll pins, tightening barrels and muzzle accessories, pretty much anything you can think of. It is worth the price for sure
This did the trick with ease and recommend it over trying to pry off with a pin punch or Glock tool using leverage as recommended elsewhere. Thanks, man.
It saved me a lot of time and effort and prevented me from making an ass of myself. I had told several people how easy it was to do! I would have busted with a hammer if I hadn't found your video. Thanks fro posting!!!
Thank you so much ! I watched so many Other videos and none of them were as helpfull as yours this was extremely frustrating I was trying to put the Pinky extension on my Glock 42 and theyre tiny Mags so it was really difficult but the plyers trick worked !
This works well but, if you have a vise, an even easier method is to take the mag, wrap a towel around it then slowly tighten the vise until you can easily slide the old plate off. This method frees up both your hands. Thanks for the video!
Man you just saved me from throwing my magazine across the room. I had the button depressed and tried everything to get that damn bottom plate off. Found your video and done in 5 seconds. Thank you Thank you!!😅😅😅😅
Just a note for 10 rd Glock 23 mag owners... The pin only pushes in less than 1/4 inch to a hard stop. Push the pin in AND to the front of mag then use channel locks or Vise grip to compress the lower part of the mag near the d10s and slide it off
I was wondering why the base plates wouldn't slide off easy like they do on my shield mags but after watching this video i was able to get my glock mag base plates off in a matter of seconds! thanks a lot!
Alternatively, you can use the punch you insert in the hole to lever off the inside of the magazine and push the baseplate to get it moving. Once it starts, it goes easy. Great walk-through, though!
I thought it was because I’d gotten too old since my last Glock purchase 25 years ago that I’d lost my hand strength. Thankfully I saw this video and knew that not only is that not necessarily the case, but that I’m not alone! I just got a new M29 and I need to put some Pearce grip extenders on my two primary mags. Thanks for this!
When I push down on the floor plate insert with a punch, it does not pop in like the video, even if I try pushing in hard. Am I doing something wrong? It is a 10 round mag, if it helps.
I used a small screwdriver to lock down the spring like he did, but then I just left the screwdriver in, held it against the table and gently pushed the magazine's plate off it. Worked very well. Try it!
I dont know if there's a difference in Gen 5 mags, but I had to squeeze extremely hard, plus my base plate on the inside wouldn't simply stay down like yours.
For the best results take a pocket knife go underneath the base plate and pry the sides it does not damage the mag it only damages the base plate and if you are trying to put a extended magazine Play you’re not gonna need the original bass play anyway it’s a lot easier and it saves a lot of time
I went to install the cool new little magpul handles that replace the baseplates on my Glock mags and I'm seeing how to do it but CANT! I watched 2 video and everyone presses the sides in soooo easy! Mine were impossible! I thought about using channel locks, not sure if I want to, scared ill gouge the mag too bad and affect the glide in and out.
Thanks. I was used to magpul .223 pmags and couldn't figure out why the same method wasn't working on my Glock mags. Those base plates are tight little buggers
Got my new magazines in this morning and couldn't get anything to workmuntil I watchdd this. Thank you for saving me a WHOLE lot trouble & frustration. 👍🏿
Wow got it done way fast and I didn’t have to go to a gun store to get it done 🙄 like the first time I switched them and messed them up lol thanks man!
OMG - After owning my Umpteenth Glock starting with a Gen ONE 17 (smooth grip) and carrying a G21 (2nd) for 17 years at the S.O., you,Sir, have enlightened me. It obviously takes guys smarter than me to figure this stuff out!
I flat out gave up on mine. Poured dish soap in em and washed em in the sink fully assembled. Also dont try torture tests with your guns. Its not worth getting covered in mud and sand and the cleanup sucks.
I never have and unless I'm rich NEVER will do a torture test on any of my guns. My "torture test" is if the gun can shoot a few thousand rounds without a failure. If I get zero failures it's fine !! So far my Beretta M9A1 is still 100% reliable over every other gun I own except my AR which is a "frankenAR" too. Even over my gen4 Glock my Beretta is still more reliable...
Berretta more reliable?? I have my doubts. The torture and testing Austria performed in the 80's concluded no one touched Glock. Not H&K, Sig, FN. nor the vaunted Beretta. The Glock 17 is still the standard. :-} @@BRadgambler
Just to nit pick, those are channel locks and not pliers. This is basically what I was thinking, but was studied about damage to the magazine. Thanks for trying and posting!
Oh it did some damage even using a cloth. I had to use channel locks too and they scuffed the magazine, cut in to the old plate. Was having a hard time. Saw another video of a guy using a glock tool. Noticed it was longer than my pin punches. Used a small screw driver to push the pin in, channel locks to squeeze it, plate came off without much trouble.
Thank you for posting this. Worked like a charm. The moral here is to always appreciate dads, and channellocks.
Neloth haha! Yesssss!!!
Amen 🙏🏻
I like how you were humble enough to give your father credit on the video lol
Yeah shout out to pops I should’ve looked this up before I started tearing my hands up this way is definitely most effective 😂
Dude, genius, I was fighting with mine for 30 minutes and after your video 2 seconds.
charles D haha! Hell yeah man!
10 years later and this is still the most helpful video on all of TH-cam. Thank you so much!

Channel locks were the key I was missing. Thanks for the clear and straight forward instructions. This worked like a charm.
WOW! Struggled for 30 minutes before watching your video with everything from fingers to C clamps. Got 30 seconds after. Thanks so much!!!
A determined man with a simple pair of channellocks is an unstoppable force.
Thank you SIR, I asked the goofballs at the range to help me with the disassembly and they said nothing about having to squeeze the magazine body, nothing. Had I not found your helpful video I would have been stuck and probably in tears. Thank you so much! I can put the Sawzall away now.

This is a great video...by FAR the easiest way I've seen yet! Thank you for posting!
Thank you! I butchered the first plate. Then I saw your video and the rest is history. Got the other two done in a couple minutes.
Thanks a bunch!
after struggling for 30 mins due to other videos, i found this one and it worked flawlessly. thanks very much!!
Excellent video! I just did some base plates for my G29SF and work perfectly like you just demonstrated. No need for a fancy base plate tool. Thank you brotha! 👍🏾✊🏾

Thanks! your method is the easiest comparing to others and no need to buy a glock magazine removal tool.
I admit, I WANTED to break my magazines until I saw this video. Thank you.
I used large Craftsman "Professional" RoboGrip self-adjusting grips, with its soft plastic jaw-covers, and your instructions worked easily. Thanks.
Thanks!! Worked like a charm, best video available!
Wow! Been trying to find info on this is impossible.
Thank you for the video!!!!!!
Very good. To the point.
New glock owner here, this method worked great. 👍🏿
This did the trick with ease and recommend it over trying to pry off with a pin punch or Glock tool using leverage as recommended elsewhere. Thanks, man.
I have had a hard time doing this even after watching other videos and your method worked great. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks so much, this worked great! Since I don't have a vice, I was glad I found your video.
Don't know why it is awkward to use pliers, not everyone has a vice. Great video, Thanks for making it short and not awkward.
It saved me a lot of time and effort and prevented me from making an ass of myself. I had told several people how easy it was to do! I would have busted with a hammer if I hadn't found your video. Thanks fro posting!!!
Thank You Sir, This Helped A lot.
Thank you so much ! I watched so many
Other videos and none of them were as helpfull as yours this was extremely frustrating I was trying to put the Pinky extension on my Glock 42 and theyre tiny Mags so it was really difficult but the plyers trick worked !
This is the BEST video I’ve seen. I rarely comment but you are the man!

Excellent. Took care of that problem real fast. Great video. Thanks
Dude ur father is brilliant! HE saved me from years of anger and frustration along with untold amounts of pain in my hands!
Good word! Short, concise. Bonus Dad, Son bonding time.
I wanna thank you for this video. This is the easiest way I've found to take bases off. Thank you.
Man you just saved me from throwing my magazine across the room. I had the button depressed and tried everything to get that damn bottom plate off. Found your video and done in 5 seconds. Thank you Thank you!!😅😅😅😅
What is this magic??!!!? This is the easiest method I have seen. Thanks for sharing!
It’s 2020 and this is still relevant, thank you
Just a note for 10 rd Glock 23 mag owners...

Damn man. Where were you 30 minutes ago when I broke me insert plate lol. Good stuff!!
I found using a punch pushing down the detent and applying pressure forward with the punch works
Glade I saw this I could not get the plate off so I gave up.
Great idea thanks to you and your Dad.
I couldn’t get mine off for 5 days, this is a goated method. Saved me from putting it under my tires and running it over. Thanks mayne
Thank you for sharing, and a shout out to your dad too. Y'all rock!!
Good job Sir! My wife's G26 now wears Pearce Extensions thanks to you.
When I push down on the floor plate insert with a punch, it does not pop in like the video, even if I try pushing in hard. Am I doing something wrong? It is a 10 round mag, if it helps.
If you get a punch or even a screw driver stand up push in a down ward motion whith it inside the hole at the base and push down itll push right off.
Bless this man🙌 what took me an hour of finger pains turned into a easy 10 secs after doin this trick 💀
Excellent & classy to give Dad his due props.
Worked like a charm! Thanks for saving me a ton of trouble!!!
Excellent video, l haven’t been using the towel. I’m going to try it next time I clean my magazines.
This is absolutely the best thing I’ve ever witnessed after spending 45mins bending my old spring
thx 4 the vid,
does it matter if its a gen3 vs gen4 mag???
all of my mags are gen4 cept 1gen3
glad u mentioned ur dad...
Instead of channel lock pliers I used a rubber oven mitt and locking pliers. I then gradually tightened them until the base was easier to remove.
A corrective note, I used the term "floor plate" for what they actually call an "insert" but there is a plate inside the outside floor/baseplate.
For the best results take a pocket knife go underneath the base plate and pry the sides it does not damage the mag it only damages the base plate and if you are trying to put a extended magazine Play you’re not gonna need the original bass play anyway it’s a lot easier and it saves a lot of time
There is a little tab on the sides of the mag. That's why it has to be squeezed
GREAT video!! Had a friend try ur steps and it worked perfectly!!
Thansk to you and your dad .. worked like a charm .. greetings from Norway
Thank you. I struggled with my first one last year. This one was a breeze.
I went to install the cool new little magpul handles that replace the baseplates on my Glock mags and I'm seeing how to do it but CANT! I watched 2 video and everyone presses the sides in soooo easy! Mine were impossible! I thought about using channel locks, not sure if I want to, scared ill gouge the mag too bad and affect the glide in and out.
and...thanks for the 2nd time. got a new mag and couldn't remember how to do it, so found your video...again.
Thanks man, worked like a champ.
I was about to blow my top! Thanks for the video!
Wow got it done way fast and I didn’t have to go to a gun store to get it done 🙄 like the first time I switched them and messed them up lol thanks man!
omfg! thank you! lol I have been fighting this for an hour. cheers to your father! Brilliant!
Dad always has the answers....
Does this work for Glock 43 mags
If you use a flathead screwdriver on the locking latch on the side it will pop-off.
Your dad is an efin genius, thank you for the video!
OMG - After owning my Umpteenth Glock starting with a Gen ONE 17 (smooth grip) and carrying a G21 (2nd) for 17 years at the S.O., you,Sir, have enlightened me. It obviously takes guys smarter than me to figure this stuff out!
Thanks Man! You just saved me lots of time and possibly a magazine!
wow... your dad is a genius. Thank you to both you and your dad :)
This is the best way to do this. I used vice grips and a sock and it was easy peazy
C clamp and an Allen wrench of the right size will work too.
This worked better than other methods i saw.
Thanks for sharing, this is the best solution in my opinion.
YOUR POPS IS THE MAN💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Video helped me out hella quick , good looking bro
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
This was super helpful. Thank you so much!!
how about when loaded?
Worked...I also used a shot of silicone spray that helped!
I flat out gave up on mine. Poured dish soap in em and washed em in the sink fully assembled. Also dont try torture tests with your guns. Its not worth getting covered in mud and sand and the cleanup sucks.

Vice grips never failed me.....Plus you preset pressure....
This is the only proper way to do it, thanks!
Thanks man! That shit was so helpful lol. Been struggling with this P.O.S base plate.
Wonderful technique! Thanks for sharing.
Worked great so easy thank you 👍🏻
Just to nit pick, those are channel locks and not pliers.
This is basically what I was thinking, but was studied about damage to the magazine. Thanks for trying and posting!
Spon Rilker yeah yeah yeahhhhhh
*worried, not studied. Just got a +2 mag plate
Spon Rilker heck yeah man! Just make sure to use a hand towel or something similar to not scuff up your mags!
Oh it did some damage even using a cloth. I had to use channel locks too and they scuffed the magazine, cut in to the old plate. Was having a hard time. Saw another video of a guy using a glock tool. Noticed it was longer than my pin punches. Used a small screw driver to push the pin in, channel locks to squeeze it, plate came off without much trouble.
lol its a magazine not a barbie.
Appreciate the vid. My sigs are easy but this thing is a bugger.
Thank you both!
