I see a few complaints about Fred stepping on Julian here a bit. True, he does... but overall this performance is really beautiful. Aside from being an absolutely mind blowing guitarist, Julian also seems to always be the most gracious guy in the room. Just his vibe. And no one on the planet plays piano more beautifully, tenderly than Fred Hersch. This is a pleasure to watch. Not perfect- but gorgeous.

What a wonderful interplay!!! Two talentous "monsters" no doubt about that.

Two players who had to come back from major injuries/illnesses. That commands respect in my view, regardless of whether or not one enjoys their playing.

Just recently have realized how great Julian is. Very special guitarist, not like any other.. Haven't heard Fred Hersch before. Their duo seems to be very nice.

Gosh Julian was clearly saying "okay I'm gonna straight out of the head and take my solo" but Fred was like "excuse me no."

Maybe I'm in the wrong perspective, but I feel like Fred was taking too much space during his solo, and overall the whole song, preventing the both to interplay. Having said that, I would love someone to change my perspective.

@@chrisblahblahh4468 I don't disagree. It's not hard to overplay his instrument. I have trouble accepting both guitar and piano on the same tune

Julian started his solo line and he was aggressively shout out by Hersch. Later, in Julian's solo Hersch started to overpass the guitar pitch capacity comping without support or consistency adding higher notes and forcing Julian to follow defragmentation. Don't be Fred Hersch in your area.

I have never understood the “sports mentality” when it comes to music, like “my guy is better than your guy”. The whole point of creative improvisational music is to become the best version of yourself. There are so many great guitarists, all original in their own right. I’ve got $100 that says Pasquale himself would tip his hat to Julian Lage.
