Nailed it Nige... Though it is non canon, may I suggest you check out dead sea scrolls 11Q13. Its known as the Melchizedek fragment. I think you will find it fascinating. It speaks of two comings of the Mashiach, of the Mashiach as God, of the transfer to an era of grace, and of the Mashiach being cut off for the remission of sins. If you calculate from the Jubilees then you come up with the time of cutting off being in AD 32... I always found it rather odd up until now that the Essenes just seemed to have vanished from history. I now believe that they did not vanish, they were just incorporated into the Church. 11Q13 is a commentary on various Tanakh prophesies from Daniel, Isaiah, etc. Unlike the Pharisees, these fellas got it right, and I don't reckon they missed Yeshua when He came. Look forward to your next visit to Whanganui. Peter

Yes I believe the essences accepted Jesus because their understanding of scriptures lined up more with exactly who Jesus was whereas the others had so badly twisted and changed everything to laws made by men as Jesus accused them of
