Going from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 7 3700X, sort of a needed upgrade since I recently replaced my GTX 1060 with an RTX 2070 Super, which was making the 2600 very unhappy.
i went from 1600->2600->1700 to 3600, 2 first are long gone sold, 1700, went to one of my spare computers, mostly for kids to play, with second hand RX 480 on a X370 Taichi MB had to RMA, running the 3600 on my main, that has X370 Professional gaming (red taichi with couple of extra features) that i got for relatively cheaply as it was last specimen certain retailer had, few months back, the same time the taichi busted cause i knew i might be out of MB for couple of months, which is exactly what expired because various "reason", so im glad i spend the money in it. Gaming with 3600 you really feel the difference. Compared to both, 1. and 2. gen, CS GO gained +100 FPS and my "ultra" 2xMSAA settings and feels much more smooth and responsive, and so does PUBG, still not perfect, but much better. Cant wait till the hammer out the problems with bios/agesa/ram speed, so we get the fullest out of these chips.
can i do this if i only one CPU from ryzen 3000 series, or do I need to find working CPU first, then put it in, do an update, and then put in 3000 series CPU.
BTW If you dont Have the CPU to POST . you can go to nearest retailer or search in forum. I got some help from retailer in my City that help me to upgrade the Bios ... I sold my 2200G and buy R5 5600x. i forget to update the Motherboard. So reach your nearest retailer or a person that have supported CPU for your motherboard to POST
Thanks! I got the B450 Steel Legend today with my R5 3600 and it would not post at all. I figured out that I needed to update the BIOS first. Too bad there isnt a really good way to update the BIOS without the CPU in it, so I ordered a Ryzen 2200G, and hope i can update the BIOS that wat so I can use the 3600 :)

if it's a new bought board, chances are it will ship with a bios newer than version 2.30 so you will be able to use the 3300X straight away. If it doesn't you will need an older gen cpu / apu to update the bios.
Probably a very stupid question, but it needs to be the LATEST version of the bios right? Not the version that directly supports the cpu? I'm relatively new to the PC world and I want to upgrade my CPU form a r5 2600 the the r5 3600. And obviously they have put out many new bios versions. and I'm very hesitant to do this because I want to do this properly and not ruin my computer

You need to use a CPU that works to update the bios. I'd recommend something like a used athlon 200ge as it's cheap and easily re-sellable once you are done with it.
How's the 3600 going so far, in terms of temps and cooling? I had the 2600x but without an aio, I simply couldn't get the temperatures in check, so sold it on. Eyeing up the 3600 as a direct replacement.
Im running it with a wraith max and its perfect, below 80 all core max boost locked in at 4200 so no complaints from me, and thats in the micro atx case which isnt the best at getting the hot air out too. Really nice cpu tbh, almost 8700k levels of performance which is pretty crazy
i have fractal celsius S36 on this, 35 on desktop, 45 in gaming, stock settings other than ram tweaks tho, but overcloking doesnt do much for these chip, yet anyways, maybe future bios updates can improve that, but i would not hold my breath. :) But yeah, that is 360mm aio liquid cooler, but the temps are so low, im sure the supplied wraith stealth will do just fine!
You could but I wouldn't recommend it because your mobo may not recognize your cpu and then it may not boot at all and your stuck with a blank bios with no boot.
B450 requires a bios update prior to using a 3rd gen Ryzen CPU. It only ships with support for 1st and 2nd gen chips as that was then generation it's from. I'd buy a athlon 200GE use that to update the bios to the latest one and then you will be able to use your 3700X

Won't work. You need a motherboard that supports USB Flashback, so you can update bios without cpu installed. Only heard of selected MSI boards supporting this for the B450 lineup. Google "List of (B350, B450, X370, and X470) motherboards with USB BIOS Flashback" and lookup "MSI FLASH BIOS WITHOUT CPU for 3rd gen AMD RYZEN 2019" on youtube.
spent three hours last night trying to install my 3700x and was about to give up but the way you walked through the steps made it easy.I was downloading the wrong bios before this and i had a bunch of stuff on the flash drive also. Those two steps made the difference.

No, you just to follow the steps in this video. If the steps in this video work correctly which is called the “BIOS/UEFI flashback” then your board should work perfectly well with the b450 mobo. Some people have been having problems so if something doesn’t work you’re not the only one.

just look for bios starting from may or so of 2019 with AGESA 1.0.0.1 "support for new ryzen cpu" (or higher) and you should be good to go, im my self running 3600 on a X370 Professional gaming MB
@@thomaswest2583 cool my man, it just seems to me that many people are real confused about on which MB's these new CPU's run at, basically nobody has upped any content to YT about running these in B350/X370, 98% of all talk ive seen is about B450/X470/X570, but nothing substantial about B350/X370, which in many cases are actually same things as the 2. gen MB's just rebranded... and with some cosmetic changes, theres quite a few of those...
On B450 models: No. You need a previous working CPU (gen 1 or 2 AMD) on it to get the BIOS to run. For newer B450 models that have Bios Flash you can use a USB stick (without processor mounted on the MoBo) and use that to update your BIOS. Get the software from the manufacturers site on another pc, format USB to fat32, put software on there (extracted) and plug into pc. Boot, open BIOS and flash it.
I gotta tell you this: I ordered a b450 MOBO and it had a sticker on the front: Ryzen 3 ready. It was already updated to the latest version of the BIOS to support next gen Ryzen processors. I suggest you contact the company you're going to buy the MOBO from and ask them if it has the latest version of BIOS, check for the orange sticker on the front :) Hope it helps!

i did this my mobo is out from tge box and doesnt display on my 3600 so i put 5600g and it display i updated the bios now my 5600g doenst on my board and my 3600 not displayin
From what's I've found out , the later models shipped will come with a sticker saying ryzen 3000 ready. Then you're fine . If it doesn't , then you will need an older CPU to boot up with and update the bios. You can try your luck with the new CPU to see if it posts. Sorry

You have no idea how disappointed I was when I bought an R5 3600 and it didn’t work with my B450 Pro4. I was so pissed cause I had just wasted a whole tube of thermal paste to on installing it. So then I had to get the boot kit from AMD.

Depends on which CPU you are using. For the steel legend you will need at least bios 2.30 to even boot the computer... That was released 8 revisions ago though so hopefully your new board will come with the latest bios
so I am updating to bios f32 before I update to 40 and then finally 42fa, however I extracted the files for f32 and there are 3 which one to I keep and which ones do I delete??

Well you either make sure the motherboard you buy is new enough to have a ryzen 3000 bios preinstalled by asking your retailer or you buy a cheap athlon for the sole purpose of flashing then sell it on.

I have a b450 mobo and am goin to be getting a ryzen 7 3700x soon. My current ram is 3000 MHz and cas latency 15. Do you recommend I overclock the ram because then I would have to raise timings, which I hear are also important?
@Kleazy I’m sure there is a tutorial somewhere, but you need to download it from the “bios” page on the asrock website for your mobo, download the latest one, extract the “rom” file and drag and drop it to a fat32 formatted usb drive. After this reboot, spam delete key to get into the bios, go to the tool on the hot bar at the top, then use “instant flash” and it should detect.
you need a 2nd or 1st gen chip . if you dont have access to one go to a repair shop and ask them to do it for you as they will have cpus that can update it.
Good video. To all the people upgrading from an older ryzen. I have spent over 3 hours troubleshooting a new ryzen 7 2700x for my brother. Later while lying in bed i have found out i was testing it without a dedicated gpu. This ryzen doesnt have an integrated gpu. Make sure you boot it(after the update) with a gpu on the system to avoid 3 hours of troubleshooting.
I would perform a bios update now and then you should be fine for 3rd gen ryzen, as far as I know I believe you have to save the bios update on a USB and go into the bios and update.
He sir, I've been subbed to you for a long time though on other account (yea long reason computer issue) though since you have experience with the 950 960 1050 (ti) i have a question for you. I want to built a tiny system which doesn't have a 6 pin connector in it since the 1050 (€60) 950 (50 but is the 75 watt part so 3% slower) and 1050 ti much more at (€100) which one would you prefere. I might be able to mod some things and also get a 960 (2gb) for (60-65ish) would that be the better option? i haven't seen all to many good comparisons between the 960 and 1050 because most review site either did not test the 960 or did not specify if its a 4 or 2 gb and the result are different everywhere i look. for instance techpowerup has the 960 why faster though this review seems really close th-cam.com/video/42qBL8N2YDM/w-d-xo.html (hardware unboxed :-) though that is compared to the 4 gb. what would be you buy best bet the pc will mainly be used for emulation and some light gaming.
You need an older cpu to update the bios, otherwise the computer won't post. Most big brand computer stores will do this for free or a small charge if you don't want to buy an older cpu.

As long as it's a bios that supports the 3000 series you will be fine to swap but obviously the latest official release is the most stable

How about a fresh build? Flashing with fresh out of the box cpu and Mobo?
You will still need a compatible cpu to do the flash which means an athlon or 1st / 2nd gen ryzen.

You could but I wouldn't recommend it because your mobo may not recognize your cpu and then it may not boot at all and your stuck with a blank bios with no boot.

You don't need to reinstall windows for it to work. But you will need to ensure that the B450 motherboard has the correct bios for your 3700X to boot.

Depends on what bios it has on it. There will be a sticker on the bios chip on the motherboard showing the version it shipped with

no because your r5 is 3rd gen so you need to update your bios to get the mobo to support 3rd gen

On B450 models: No. You need a previous working CPU (gen 1 or 2 AMD) on it to get the BIOS to run. For newer B450 models that have Bios Flash you can use a USB stick (without processor mounted on the MoBo) and use that to update your BIOS. Get the software from the manufacturers site on another pc, format USB to fat32, put software on there (extracted) and plug into pc. Boot, open BIOS and flash it.

I gotta tell you this: I ordered a b450 MOBO and it had a sticker on the front: Ryzen 3 ready. It was already updated to the latest version of the BIOS to support next gen Ryzen processors. I suggest you contact the company you're going to buy the MOBO from and ask them if it has the latest version of BIOS, check for the orange sticker on the front :)

The board will only POST with a CPU it recognises. if your board does not have a bios on it which supports Zen 2 CPUS it wont POST at all

Then you will need to buy a compatible processor (athlon will be fine) and update the bios to one that supports ryzen 3000.

@@demon6937 no problem! keep in mind that, if needed, AMD can lend you a CPU to update ur mobo and that some shops will even upgrade your mobo for you.

From what's I've found out , the later models shipped will come with a sticker saying ryzen 3000 ready. Then you're fine . If it doesn't , then you will need an older CPU to boot up with and update the bios. You can try your luck with the new CPU to see if it posts. Sorry

You have no idea how disappointed I was when I bought an R5 3600 and it didn’t work with my B450 Pro4. I was so pissed cause I had just wasted a whole tube of thermal paste to on installing it. So then I had to get the boot kit from AMD.
I did the same but the Instant FLash can't read the file in my usb 32gb Fat32 , I dont know how solve that problem, can u help me,pls!

Depends on which CPU you are using. For the steel legend you will need at least bios 2.30 to even boot the computer... That was released 8 revisions ago though so hopefully your new board will come with the latest bios
so I am updating to bios f32 before I update to 40 and then finally 42fa, however I extracted the files for f32 and there are 3 which one to I keep and which ones do I delete??

Well you either make sure the motherboard you buy is new enough to have a ryzen 3000 bios preinstalled by asking your retailer or you buy a cheap athlon for the sole purpose of flashing then sell it on.

@Kleazy I’m sure there is a tutorial somewhere, but you need to download it from the “bios” page on the asrock website for your mobo, download the latest one, extract the “rom” file and drag and drop it to a fat32 formatted usb drive.
After this reboot, spam delete key to get into the bios, go to the tool on the hot bar at the top, then use “instant flash” and it should detect.

you need a 2nd or 1st gen chip . if you dont have access to one go to a repair shop and ask them to do it for you as they will have cpus that can update it.
Good video. To all the people upgrading from an older ryzen. I have spent over 3 hours troubleshooting a new ryzen 7 2700x for my brother. Later while lying in bed i have found out i was testing it without a dedicated gpu. This ryzen doesnt have an integrated gpu. Make sure you boot it(after the update) with a gpu on the system to avoid 3 hours of troubleshooting.

If it's new stock it will have a new bios. So u less your really unlucky and get one with a launch bios you should be fine at this point

I would perform a bios update now and then you should be fine for 3rd gen ryzen, as far as I know I believe you have to save the bios update on a USB and go into the bios and update.

I've been subbed to you for a long time though on other account (yea long reason computer issue) though since you have experience with the 950 960 1050 (ti) i have a question for you. I want to built a tiny system which doesn't have a 6 pin connector in it since the 1050 (€60) 950 (50 but is the 75 watt part so 3% slower) and 1050 ti much more at (€100) which one would you prefere. I might be able to mod some things and also get a 960 (2gb) for (60-65ish) would that be the better option? i haven't seen all to many good comparisons between the 960 and 1050 because most review site either did not test the 960 or did not specify if its a 4 or 2 gb and the result are different everywhere i look. for instance techpowerup has the 960 why faster though this review seems really close th-cam.com/video/42qBL8N2YDM/w-d-xo.html (hardware unboxed :-) though that is compared to the 4 gb. what would be you buy best bet the pc will mainly be used for emulation and some light gaming.

You need older cpu because motherboard won't boot if bios isn't supporting certain cpu
You need an older cpu to update the bios, otherwise the computer won't post. Most big brand computer stores will do this for free or a small charge if you don't want to buy an older cpu.
