Yeast Infection in Dogs

- Dogs aren't supposed to have a 'stinky doggy smell.' Or be so horribly itchy that they desperately claw and chew, self-inflicting trauma and pain. Yet some owners are so used to it that they think this is normal. What does your dog smell like today?
Yeast infections, especially of the skin and ears, are quite common in dogs. A normal amount of yeast progresses to an infection when the organism begins reproducing uncontrollably, causing an overgrowth.
Dogs with yeast infections often have an immune system imbalance, are on antibiotics or have recently taken them, are immunosuppressed, and/or have allergies.
Symptoms of a yeast infection in dogs include itching and general discomfort, a distinct and unpleasant body odor, skin irritation, and changes in mood or behavior.
Treatment of a yeasty dog starts with addressing the diet to remove all sources of sugar, including grains and carbs, and moving to species-appropriate nutrition supplemented with natural anti-fungal foods.
Disinfecting protocols and natural anti-fungal baths and rinses are also critically important in resolving a yeast infection.

I been spending so much money these past 10 years with my dogs. This is the best info I got. Going to vet has done nothing to help. Even my friends that are vets can’t help. When I ask do they take their dogs out they say no. My dogs are active and out in the fields everyday. When I take my dogs to city parks keyword city. They tend to have bad reactions. But when I’m in rural town (low vehicle traffic) or out in the wilderness they have zero issues. Something in the environment of the city is the issue.
Most vets, like human doctors, are trained to look for pharmacological solutions to any given diagnose. Unfortunately, and unknown to most vets/doctors, they are just vendors for the drug companies; and drug companies know that it's more profitable to produce drugs that will manage symptoms, NOT solve the problem. The system is terribly broken. Good on you for taking it upon yourself to do the legwork to get answers! And thank you, Dr. Becker, for bringing us this unconventional information.
Also, please people, do not assume all itchiness is due to allergies. Mites, fleas, etc are also very common….and with that allergic reactions are typical from all the bites. But it’s not simply “allergies”…has nothing to do with diet or environment. Yeast infections in ears are also common with mange/mites.
You're right. There can be other reasons as well. Something as simple as the laundry detergent used for dog's bedding, then if people use a fabric softener too.
Not vacuuming upholstery regularly to remove dust mites, or washing dog bed covers, etc. So many possibilities for allergic reactions to happen.
She just explained signs of yeast, didn’t you watch the video??? 🤦🏻♀️
Povodine iodine is what she used to recommend in older videos, for some reason she’s not saying what the anti fungal bath is
Yes, I saw this recommendation in one of her previous videos but no proportions or ratios of povodine to water.
She said hydrogen peroxide
Do you believe vaccinations are compromising dogs’ immune systems? Far too many allergies and yeast issues in dogs these days.
I see yeast infections just as often in minimally vaccinated dogs as I do in heavily vaccinated ones.
Yes. And the purified food supply does this as well
I think the dewormer has something to do with it and allergies in dogs
@@lelelum4103 you can use food grade Diatomaceous Earth to deworm any animal including humans. All these poke and chemicals make dogs sickly
30 years ago dogs didn't have so much issues. The last 10 years every dog I have, been having skin issues. Vets are big business now. Soon it will catch up to hospitals. No matter what I feed my dogs. High end dog food same issue. Raw diet same issue. Only thing I can do is bath them everyday cause I take them out everyday. But I notice it's environmental issues. If I don't take them out except to go potty and I wipe them down it's really minor red bumps on the belly.
But why have a dog if gonna lock them in the house everyday. Something is poisoning dogs.
Or a sign the world is a disease. It's not only dogs human been having more issues the past
15-20 years. Like almost every kid I know was born with skin issues.
We're transitioning to raw feeding, our doggo suffers summer long allergies and it seems to be starting to work, she's been detoxing for a week now, but has a lot more spark in her eyes and seems to love all she's presented with ❤
Thank you so much Karen!!
also using CDS topically and adding to water bowl works as well.
Thank you for this very informative information
What an informative video, thank you so much!
Thank you, Dr. Becker! I hope this will solve her itching. She also has an obsessive compulsive personality. Thanks again! Shalom!
Thank you. So many amazing tips.
THANK YOU! Very informative!!!
WHY don't you ever include pictures in your videos????????? It would be So helpful. That's what people want to see.
Thank you.
Despite the fact that all of my dogs are floppy eared, only one gets yeast ear infections from improper drying after daily swimming and very rarely, baths.. He has never had an antibiotic, but he did lose his optic nerve in his eye from his very first rabies vaccine.
How did I find you? Wow! Thankful. ❤️
Thank you for this -- can this be applied to cats and what can be good anti-fungal shampoos?
Ice been scouring the web trying to find info and diet info on yeast infections in dogs.
I was very impressed with yours. Where can I find recipes so I can get started. So many are conflicting on ingredients. I've heard no garlic for dogs, health issues with grain free. Plz help. I'd love advice from you!!
Thank you Dr Becker. This is by far the best video regarding yeast infection in dogs I have watched and I've bookmarked it for future reference. Again, many thanks🙏🙏🙏
I agreed!
I would recommend charts.
Thx!!!!!!
Thank you! What is in the foot solution?
Dust Mites in your home has also been linked very much so!
Take care of your doggo, its the yeast you can do.
Thank you 🙏🏻 🧚🏻♂️❤️❤️❤️
I took yours and the other Gentle Men from Canada, those first few days were killer, but now its maintenance. Its been 2.5 years, so I am very surprised how fast it works (the tips)
What is the solution for the paws. Your video didn’t mention it? Only the witch hazel for the ear.
Colloidal silver spray works great.
You are my hero Doc. With deep gratitude - thank you.
What would you recommend for an overgrowth of yeast around the vulva. Is it safe to use the same treatment in this area as with the feet; i.e. water, hydrogen peroxide, and white vinegar? Thanks for what you do. It's sad that vets seem to have little to no knowledge about this subject.
what do you prescribe for a dog who tests low on the immunoglobulin tests? I have a 2 year old male Doberman who has stubborn yeast infections no matter what I have tried, and over the last year, I've tried it all; conventional, homeopathic, holistic, naturopathic... The ONLY thing that helped him was Cytopoint injections, but after doing some research on that I decided to cease getting him those injections, not to mention the Cytopoint is grossly expensive. I am also doing a homeopathic liver cleanse, but that's not helping much. Additionally, I am doing a "healthy gut" protocol (L-Glutamine & collagen). Thank you for your informative videos!
What is the rinse that you dip the paws into? It’s it witch hazel? The spray to use? Also what would you recommend for a natural anti fungal shampoo?
Our vet recommended apple cider vinegar & water mixture for m dogs yeast issues. We dip his feet in a mixture of it & pat dry.
@@crazylicious85what is the ratio of ACV to water?
I think it’s 1:3 1ACV 3water
If one were to look at yeast with a TCVM perspective, you should avoid ALL fermented foods internally. For instance, kefir, ACV, bone broth, tripe, sauerkraut etc
Very true.
would you feed raw carrots if not allergic? does that exacerbate yeast?
is this a reupload or updated for 2023?
8:08 parsley thyme garlic oregano
Thank you Dr Becker this was an incredibly helpful video. Recently adopted a small dog from a shelter and he was constantly licking his butt like it was itching him so took him to the vet and they tested for parasites which was negative and also his anal glands were empty so they said he was fine and sent me on my way. He is still going after his butt and now because of this video I think it could be a yeast problem. It's sad that I now have to pay for another vet visit just to tell them what the problem might be ☹️. Both of my dogs eat The Farmers Dog which does have a small amount of carbs but not much. So what can I put on his butt to stop the itching?
Have the same problem with my dog and after several vet visits with no answers have come to the conclusion that it’s diet. So now I’m going to start working on that.
My girl chews @ her tail a lot.
My pup HATES tubby time, but LOVES the after bath routine. she is too cute (pug)
Tubby time😂😂 . I love that. ❤
@@saveamerica2896 She is too funny though, she loves "attacking" us when its shower time so to combat that I hold my arms out and say "Sanza, you want to take tubby tubby with mami?" So turns around so quick and runs away.
@@thelthrythquezada8397 thats so cute. I love dogs. They do crazy things
@@saveamerica2896 They do don't they!!! One time (2017ish) I was at the pool with her (Pug) and a black duck flew over head, and Sanza went running after it, slipped through the gate and I could not find her. I'm calling and calling for her. Some dude mad chill was like "Ay yo, is that your dog?" Don't you know Sanza was stuck in a nasty swamp like water hole, looking at me like "mom, I know I messed up but could you get me out of here?" UGGGGH, I thought she was gonna drown...
My experience is the only way to get rid of a yeast infection is antifungal medication along with medicated baths with a ketoconozol or chlorehexidrine shampoo, and NEVER leave your dot wet. Always towel dry then use a high velocity dryer mase for grooming, there are mini sizes for home use.
Home remedy can actually make it worse.

Pesticide use in parks?
When you take them out to go potty, do you mean in your yard? Are you using any types of pesticides, weed killers, chemical fertilisers on your grass because dogs can definitely be affected by that?
It woud be nice if you added re-upload from about 5 years ago.
How long does it take for the dandruff to clear when your dog has a yeast infection? I’ve been feeding him raw for about a week.
What a fair fee for those 3 tests?
Hi I find you very helpful my dog won’t stop licking her feet they are now raw. I give her Providon iodine baths to soak her feet I’ve gone as far as foot boots for dogs. I also use miconahex spray do you recommend anything else topical I still have antibiotics I can’t get her to eat…. She is a 76 lbs Bo wiemariner I feel so bad what more can I do???
I would try hypochlorous acid wound spray for dogs. I have the Nixall brand. That stuff is amazing.
What about the eyes the body.
After a bath of selenium sulfide 1% dandruff shampoo, the tub has a sandy like sediment in the bottom of the tub, that is orange rusty color. IS this a confirmation that it is YEAST? THANK YOU.
What kind of dog food would you recommend? I know you said grain free but I’m really need some names pls
Species appropriate diet, mostly raw meat, organs and bones, plus the heatly supplements mentioned in the video. If not possible to go fully raw, incorporate at least 50/50 so the pup can get some benefits ❤
I feed my boy Open Farm freeze dried raw
Carna4 is by far the best for dog kibble ; lightly baked ,no synthetics , human grade , organic and grain-free . You can do your research . Feeding raw food a few times a week and goats milk once a day is so good for dog's gut health . Good luck :)
i have heard that garlic is bad dogs but you're recommending to give anti-fungal foods such garlic, thyme, parsley and oregano. I thought that garlic is toxic to dogs. I can safely give garlic to my dog?
I once heard cooked garlic. But I am not sure
@@ginajones2328 I wish it would be more clear. I use garlic in my foods for my health benefits
What about yeast in the ears?
We feed an all raw diet thinking it would help with our girl with her paws but nothing helps. Even our vet said that's normal and he can do nothing about it
What's in the foot soak solution
You only mention hydrogen peroxide
Try epsom salts soak paws .
Selson blue shampoo, and iodine rinse and mega honey !
is the honey topical or to eat?
What solution do you mean ???
Hydrogen peroxide. She mentioned it
“I recommend a gallon of water, a cup of hydrogen peroxide, and 1-4 cups of white vinegar as a foot soak solution. You can use this solution as many times a day” from her fb post
Wait. What is the paw dip solution ?
She has a. Whole video on foot soaks, which is water with a little bit of povidone iodine
apple vinegar in warm water half cup to dish pan my dog is small. big dog bath tub a cup to half fool for 5 to 10 minutes..and yes coconut oil in a day .....love my fur ..
Cytopoint, Apoquel, well used by veterinarians, are the worse.
Deadly as well
My boy has Perianal Fistulas. Recently his gums and Jowels are turning red. I looked it up and I found that it can be a yeast infection. What can I do for him because it is inside his mouth.
Coconut oil (organic) You can put it directly in their mouth or add to food. My terrier mix gets yellow crusty stuff in the folds of lower lips on each side of her mouth. I clean them daily and slather coconut oil in the folds and it minimizes the yellow crusty stuff. Coconut oil is wonderful. I also put a glob in the palm of my hand then rub it all over the bottoms of her feet. She had elephant skin on her back elbows …after rubbing coconut oil on them a few weeks …the hair grew back beautiful. I was thrilled. 🤗
I watched this video until she said sugar is the cause n then realized my dog actually must of stepped on the prickly plants because i dont feed mine sugar ever and his diet is raw 😅
But of course nobody feeds their dogs sugar😂
Do you feed him blueberries, sweet potato, rice? Those are all sugars btw
