Great watch again guys. just done some maintenance around the ponds and thought just add up how much Wattage is being used on the two ponds. Main pond comes to 204watts and the small grow on comes to 113watts so that's 317watts of electric every hour👌👍

Not much more than running an indoor fish tank with heater.

Hi there. My pond is a recently built 8,000 litres above ground. Its fibregalssed with a 4 inch bottom drain and skimmer going into a Nexus 220, pulled by a varipump and returned via a 55w UV. My issue is this; my Ph is 7.5 out of the tap. I have a trickle in/out which comes in via a 3 canister dechlorinator however my pond water is 9.5. I only have a few tosai with my goldfish and feed lightly. Why is this happening please and do I need to reduce it?

With it being new is there anything from the pond finishing that could be effecting it, any exposed concrete or anything like that?

More science, sorry! If a Hanna nitrite checker is reading 62 ppb, that is NOT the nitrite level. The checker only measures the N content, to get the NO2 content you need to multiply by 3.29. this gives a value of 203 ppb or 0.2 ppm (which is a bit on the high side). This is all spelled out in the Hanna instructions but from what I see on social media many people do not understand this. As you say keep it simple and just use a dropper test!

If that’s the case then they really are a total waste of time!

@@Ricky_Stoddart_Koi yes i think all the hanna checkers work like that. They are useful if you understand how they work and what the result means. But given the cost of the checkers, the cost of reagents and that the results are not straightforward to understand most people will be better off with a dropper test.
