      Where is your dealership? Mine said yes Subaru will warranty it but they need another $400 from me to repair it.

      @@chicagohandyman Downtown Subaru of Nashville. I referenced the Subaru Bulletin that I found online that extended the warranty of the EPB harness and that it is a known issue.

    My wife was stuck last night - AAA wouldn’t flat bed the car because wheels were locked - sent him this video and he fixed it. He said, “Yo, TH-cam is the BOMB!”

    Hey i got to admit this video worked after i changed the brakes on my subi 2015 legacy i had the same problem. Although i recommend you check both rear tires because one of them was connected and the other was not. Im no mechanic. so i didnt know there was one on each other side. So make sure you check both sides! Thanks for the help! Saved me some 💰

    **UPDATE** While the repair in the video has been holding up great, I just got notified by Subaru that the harness has been given an extended warranty. This means that Subaru will repair this free. I will definitely head to the dealership soon.

    Wife is 700 miles from home last night, 9pm at night, 46 degrees and light rain. I sent her this video and by 10pm she crawled under the car, found the same issue & made this repair. She is not mechanical. Anyone can do this! THANK YOU.

    Those connectors can be replaced DIY also. The service manual details how to replace the connector on the harness.

    Great video. I did brakes on a 2017 Subaru didn't know what I did wrong. This same warning ⚠️ showed up. I remembered I did disconnect it from one side but plugged back in. After your video, I checked it. It's was off, and it was hard to plug it back in. Thanks, though.

    What if it is not blinking but solid? I accidentally broke that connector piece while working on something else. I put a zip tie on it then. Months later not the light came on. I'm having the parking brake issue but I checked it and it is still connected. I'm going to replace the zip tie and see if that fixes it.

  • @Buc_Stops_Here

    I just had this error on my 2013 Subaru Legacy with close to 150,000 miles. Unfortunately, it locked the car in place in a parking lot. I had to get a OCBD II device to override the computer and unlock the parking brake to move the car (called a tow truck to bring me one). Once I got the car moving, the connector was fine (unlike this one). In my case, the OCBD codes showed a complete electrical failure of the harness which made the car lock up where it was. So I had to buy the part from Subaru as my car is not covered by an extended warranty, and the harness and switch is $149. This is going to be too much for my skill so it will take about 2 hrs to install and about $350 to $400 to fix. Considering how few problems the car has had it is worth it to get it moving again.

    • @chicagohandyman
      @chicagohandyman  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that part is unfortunately not covered under the extended warranty. It is definitely a more involved repair. I would’ve had the dealership do the fix too. Thanks for sharing your story!

      @@chicagohandyman Thanks, actually this is an independent mechanic I truly trust as he has kept my last two cars running as long as I want to maintain them. My last car, a 2006 Saab 9-3 I sold in 2018 after nearly 200,000 and now the second owner has 270,000 on it. Original powertrain. Hope the Subaru can do the same.

    How long would you expect this fix to last? It’s obviously not a long term solution but it is for a 2016 Legacy - our son’s car who is away at college.
    Is it confirmed Subaru has extended the warranty for this part?

    • @chicagohandyman
      @chicagohandyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’d have to check if your vehicle is covered under the warranty.
      My dealership said that Subaru is paying out for the defective part. But not for the other parts and labor needed for the repair. I said no to their price of $470.
      My zip ties have been holding up just fine. Going on 1.5 years.

    • @chicagohandyman

      Yes. You just won’t be able to engage your ebrake. Also, you can potentially damage the cable if it rubs against the wheel or ground.
