Thanks for the information! We drove in the other evening from the harbor, and the "light show" on the dash just started. Found your video, I walked out to our Outback, and it was exactly the same as you saw. We have the kit on order, but for now, my wife crawled under there while I was at work the next morning and zip tied it on. You've won another follower!

I wish more manufacturers had repair kits for their connectors like this one. My Ford truck has some brittle connectors it's impossible to fix without the zip tie method.
Good to know Subaru pays attention to these things.

I'd like to have been a fly on the wall of the Subaru engineer coming up with this fix listening to the discussion about it with his fellow engineers. "Should I include zip-ties with the fix?". "Naw, Leroy, let's put a big damn rubber loop on it. That'll show that its fixed real good." LOLOL!! That giant tether is a hoot

Subaru knows that plastic clips falling off again… that’s why they included that rubber hook, so if it pops off when your driving you can put it back on so it can fall off again 😎

Great that Subaru addressed this. But I don't understand the point of the extra loop strap. I mean, I guess it prevents the mechanic from dropping the part in the dirt if it ever gets removed again, but on the other hand it seems it creates a new risk. Imagine if an Outback driver ever took it off-road (!) and happened to snag a small branch with that redundant loop: it could yank the whole thing out the hard way. Am I missing something?

    • @onetimer100
      @onetimer100 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

The tether is simply a retainer for the clip when you or a mechanic removes the clip to do brake work. If you don't like it, just cut it off. It's the only purpose is to aid in not getting lost during service.

This also happened to our used 2016 outback. Had just bought it and drove a couple of miles before the dash lit up. Bought it at a subaru dealer and they were useless. They insisted that it was not a broken retaining clip but dirt in the plug that caused the connector to fall off. I pointed out that this was a known issue and Subaru had issued a TSB in America, I live in Europe, the dealer did not care. I asked if they could get me the repair kit and I would install it myself, but no. I ended up fixing it with a zip tie and it has been fine ever sine. Not an ideal fix, but at least it works.

Subaru (Canada) just extended the warranty on these connectors to 15 years unlimited mileage. Both my mother and I received letters from Subaru Canada for our 2016 Outbacks for this specific issue. I recently had this problem, one connector loose, and the dash lit up like a Christmas Tree, I will be off to the dealer to have this fixed (for free) shortly. Unrelated issue I recently had a headlight aim issue, the small connecting arm between the control arm and rear height sensor which adjusts the auto levelling headlights failed, the sensor was pushed full up and the headlights went full down, I have the sensor zip tied at mid height until that part can be replaced, which only comes as a complete sensor with arms.

    • @wim0104

it's cheap and nasty. I have a stick shift with that park brake button, and the factory-recalled parking motor that operates the old drum brakes... it does not release when it should (when it's supposed to help with hill starts). what does work is the auto-enable when parking on a slope.

the kit you used looks to be an ok repair on what is a poor design that will fail. bummer they messed it up
a true emergency brake is cable activated - less to go wrong and is useful in an emergency [or other uses on ice, steep grades. . ect]
electronic brakes are only good IF you have power. Not useful in an electronic emergency :o no power = no brake
my 2014 has the electric parking brake & thankfully not like this one with extra parts [connectors] subject to damage from snow, mud or other road debris. oops
I miss the cable [actual] emergency brakes. [less failure And only a cable with No connections to other systems]
yes a real emergency brake, not an Brake which has one purpose - park.
nice of you to show the connector fix that is much better than zip ties.

This isn't a parking brake, this is emergency braking system, like if cars in front of you stop on the freeway it will stop your car. That is what the eye sight system is and is part of the cruise control system.

Like every single auto manufacturer…? It’s a free recall. I chose to spend the whole $10 to avoid the dealership touching my car.
