Instead of a knife I chose a multi-tool then they can learn how to fix/pull maintenance on whatever they need to instead of borrowing my multi tool. I also put a little bag of hard candies for a moral booster because it doesn't matter what circumstance you find a child in if you give them candy it brings there spirt up and sooths their emotions, doesn't matter if its a car wreck broken arm or a lost toy. the biggest thing to remember when surviving with children in these kinds of circumstances is its extremely stressful enough as adults but when you throw the emotions and hardships of children in the works, helps to find the little thing.
If anyone is interested in survival the best results that i've had was by following the Micaden survive system (just google it) definately the best survival that I have ever followed.
This is the first video I found by you and it is very informative. I never put anything comfort wise in my BOB. But after watching this it made me realize that it is an important thing.
this is definitely a great idea to have for your kids I just want to complement you on your parenting skills you seem like a great dad keep up the fantastic work
Great bags, even though they will be with you, I would still add food simply because you never know they could get separated from you and/or get lost. Maybe a little swiss army knife when they are ready :)
I would add a small snack like a kids cliff bar etc so if they get lost or just get a bit tired to bug out location etc they have some calories to keep them occupied in their bags. maybe 1 or 2 koolaid or capri sun juice boxes (mylar type container) good for emergency and extra sugar boost. (good for morale if they enjoy the snacks too!)
+cat c (korn02364) Hardest part about the kid BOBs is that they change so fast! I can totally see bugging out and my son's clothes being two sizes too small! Thanks again for your input, will be adding "morale" snacks soon!
+PaleoHikerMD i find that a challenge too, you always wanna be prepared but at the same time its like you kinda obsess over a kids pack because you never know if their sizes change, they skip sizes, they lose interest in a toy, etc. its good you go through them often.
It would never hurt to pack clothes a size or two too big. Pants can be rolled up or cut off the extra length and if you get elastic waistbands with an internal/ built in belt, you'd be set for a while.
One of the best things for children is the feeling of safety. I made “comfort kits” for kids so they feel important to the family and they have their needs addressed. Some of the “Comfort” products have been banned (Talcum Powder) basic hygiene products.
l personally think one important thing to have is some band-aids. Especially at 9 the age where your more responsible or independent. But its up to you. Great bag by the way,l think its given me an idea of what l could add to my daughters bag.
Love the Video and the laminated Family card is the bomb. One of the things i added to my kids kit was a Baby wipes. I let them dry and and put a small zip loc bag with them. That way they can add some water to a few wipes at a time in the ziploc and clean up or if they have an accident. By letting them dry out they have the cleaner but no weight of the extra water. Really great video love it and great job Sydney!
You can do the same with biodegradable toilet wipes. Can be used on your butt or as a body wipe. Put a builders rubble bag and a couple of ordinary black bin bags in as well. Little weight, but lots of uses. If you have space? Couple of pairs of socks n underwear and 1/4 a bar is soap and teach her how to wash them. Being clean raises spirits. And again if space a small ( 3 - 5 inches max) cuddlie toy for comfort. Did you include gloves and a hat. Again space, a couple of pairs of latex gloves. Even if to big they keep hands dry. Dry n cold is very different from wet n cold. Chalk. Can be used to mark places. Teach her a secret (family only known) glif sequence. Only 2 glifs needed. Here! + Arrow. Went! + Arrow. Easy to learn. Can be used as a game to practice.
Damn man!! :) This was AWESOME!!! Showing your kids how-to, learning sh-tuff to be independant...can't say enough of how awesome this is!!! Thanks for hlping other parents out!!
Victorinox has some pocket knives for kids, eg 'My first Victoriox' with round tip. I think Leatherman has also multitools for them. Perhaps add an eat'n tool, some small binoculars and a compass and teach them how to navigate.
good job on the bag and teaching your children to be prepared.👍 I like the firestarting kit. Your daughter is so cute and smart. Love her personality. 💜
Thanks for replying on the other video! When you said you had a video on the kids bags I went searching! Awesome! We placed all our stuff and kids stuff including toys in plastic zip lock bags incase it doesn't get wet, from bugs, chemicals (lol) etc. Also, I deff didn't think to have separate emergency bags for the cars! Thanks! :) Subscribing!
Great video. It's always better to be ready. You look a great father. I would add some very basic ffp3 or n95 dust mask just in case that we'll be in a very dusty environment etc.
My 9-yr-old has a knife (mora), folding saw, and a multitool. His bag is inthe emergency closet and he only gets to use those things under supervision, while learning to use it, but I want him to have it available to him if he were to ever need it. He is a very cautious child and has been working with tools since he was about 4. I would at least have some kid scissors and a small folding saw.
For my kids I have a hoodie which turns into a soft toy, which also can double up as a pillow so 3 in 1 Also it’s a good idea to have a thermal underwear top and bottom longsleeve. (Couple sizes big so can stay in the bug out bag for longer) A personal filter straw, N75mask, and on the picture Of the family all relative data with addresses and phone numbers just in case
yep well i also have a few tampons and a few pads. in my bag. becouse they are good as firestarters. and yep soking up blod. and is a small form faktor. and a pad with some tape shoudl make a decent big bandaid. somethign deeper maybe tampon. or just use it to start fire.
Great video! Your daughter is funny! I would definitely add some food to there pack. Maybe put in there water bottle. A pare of gloves to hold there hand warmers, also they can help carry fire wood. Sun screen and bug band. A Light weight book. Awesome to teach then survival skills.
I have seen some things missing making difference of life or death (1# DUST MASK last thing you want is your child choking on ash clouds & smoke so on if it can be provident or made less damaging ) (2# BIN BAGS multi use from shelter to waterproofing her clothing to making something to sleep on improvised mat ) ( 3# 2WAY RADIOS coms are always important life line link as you see in the film phones are unreliable ) (4# SNACKS like bar food nothing worse than a cold hungry child trust me i know and it helps keep moral up ) HOPE THIS HELP KEEPS SAFE HAVE & NOT NEED THAN NEED & NOT HAVE IS THE BEST WAY SOMETIME.
Food. Water bottle filled. Life straw. Small towel. Wet wipes. Hand sanitizer. Cards, or quiet game. Sun hat. Beanie. Lollies. Bug spray. Toilet paper. I've slept out at night with only a survival blanket and almost caught pneumonia. I really thought I might die if I didn't start moving and it took two hours of walking before dawn to stop my teeth violently chattering. Try and get very compact sleeping bag. And two or three survival blankets, cos one is no good, especially for an adult. We are too tall. Any crack letting in air and u freeze, and also they rip very easily. I think I'll duct tape two together and try that out for strength.
Look at the lifestraw system for your daughter they make a little kit that could fit it her klean bottle.it comes with 2 different screw on tops for different size bottles.look at the little multi tools from leatherman that doesnt have a knife in it but pretty much everything else.
+bobby majors Honestly I just made it. I downloaded the basic card form a government website on preparedness, ready.gov, and laminated it using my home laminating machine. It's actually a pretty informative website! thanks for watching :)
If you check your local walmart in the business supplies there are 'laminating" sheets that don't need a fancy machine You just open the 'page' and put your doc in and remove some protective strips and smooth it over. They work well even out in the weather.
Sofia Ramsay it's a survival bag, in case of an emergency. Natural disaster or civil unrest. Its s bag you can just grab and go. Our bags are set up for 5 days.
Yes, but it is good to be prepared and it puts kids' minds at ease. Many families just had to evacuate their homes due to an approaching hurricane and if this girl had to evacuate her home, I'm sure knowing she had a favorite stuffed animal in her bag and other comfort items with her, she wouldn't be as scared to leave her home and go to a shelter to ride out the storm.
Then don’t call it a bug out bag. Call it a disaster prep bag. Before the 50s, every family put things by for emergencies and rainy days. This is just a portable version.
Apart from knifes yes. There is nothing to stop you making a B O B for yourself or your child. Knifes are the main hazard. Blades less than 25mm long ( except a scalpel ) are probably ok. If in a multitool, may be easier to explain.
i disagree. if its truly a shtf situation then you need to make sure EVERYONE is self sufficient. If something happens to the adults your kids need to have water, food, shelter, .22 lr ammo, a firearm and the ability to hunt, process and prepare game.

Have you thought about adding a couple granola bars in each bag just in case they are away from you for a couple hours and are hungry?
