    The glow stick bracelets are great for clipping on to the dog's collar at night (we use them while camping).

      What a fantastic idea! I will use that idea for camping at least...hope to never have to bug out.

    This was great! I recently had to evacuate with my pup for Hurricane Irma. The only thing I forgot was to decant in a small container her shampoo - for quick clean ups if needed. I also brought a few potty pads, in case we had to stay indoors for a while. Thanks again for sharing. Molly is adorable!

      Glad you and your pup were safe. Great idea with the shampoo. I might add that. I was thinking the wipes would be good enough. Yes, potty pads. I will add that. Molly says thank you ;D

    The commercial food I would ditch and go for a freeze dried raw food which is extra light Great for travelling...and safe. ! K9 Naturals for New Zealand is good

      I feed my dog nothing but a freeze dried diet. I found that my dog was much healthier and had a lot more energy. Plus he was just an overall much happier dog.

      Be careful though changing their food suddenly as you don’t want them to get sick. I’d stick with their usual food.

    Self adhesive athlete wrap for wrapping up the paw if she cuts it. And way more tape. I had to use the plastic hospital type tape when my dog cut herself. It pulls out a few hairs but better than infections.

    We recently lost our little dog but I had a bug out bag for her too. I also had a frontpack to carry her in if necessary. she would get frightened and try to run in stressful situations.

  • @my2jedi

    Fantastic idea! We often just assume we will remember everything in an emergency, or that we will have time to grab it. I did have to laugh when you pulled out the little doggie bed/mat. While our schnauzers sometimes use those at home, in an emergency situation I don't think they would even consider being anywhere except our laps! (One advantage of small dogs, right?) Thanks so much for sharing! Sara

    • @SimplyCherie
      @SimplyCherie  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was her pad when she was a baby. Yes, I assume if she doesn't want it in her portable kennel or on the floor, it will be on my lap and her on top of it. I have even thought of those baby wraps ;D

      My 48kg Rottsky will be glued to me at all times. I'm honestly worried about him in an emergency situation as he's highly anxious and can act pretty scary to others when he's frightened. Definitely bringing his medication in the bugout bag

    • @RC-kv9rj
      @RC-kv9rj ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you say medication, is that for anxiety & if so what do you use? I’m trying to find something for my dog as she has anxiety too.

    • @squash6497
      @squash6497 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RC-kv9rj Yes, he's on 40mg Fluoxetine (Prozac) on a daily basis, and we use 2-3 Clonodine as well on days where we know he might be more stressed (vet visits for example). I like this combo a lot for him. We previously used Trazodone, but that tends to make him too high where he doesn't understand what we ask him to do and he's just zoned out. Note on the dosages that he's a big boy. We used to have him on 50mg of the prozac but he lost his personality, didn't want to play just slept all the time. He seems much happier now.

    Do you have a dog cage to take to shelters with you if needed.
    During Irma evacuation our local pet friendly shelters requires cages for pets which really surprised me but makes sense.

    • @SimplyCherie
      @SimplyCherie  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we have a portable cage that we keep in the garage specifically for bugging out. Did they require cages because there were not enough? So they could take in more?

      Your dogs are well-loved. My dachshund is 9 years old and a nervous nilly. We have used this also for when we have gone on weekend trips. It has been very helpful and easy to bring her along. And it is even been a practice to see if what we have in here would last at least 3 days - and it's been good.

    Only thing I would say is….in an emergency you really do not need flea tick or heart worm meds. If they go a few days over their due date it isn’t going to hurt and let’s face it it’s an emergency not vacation. So I wouldn’t worry about it.
