  • If you have an older Lexus IS and you're getting an exhaust smell inside your car even with the windows rolled up, you probably need to change the rear duct assy quarter vent. Product # 62930-12161. I bought mine on ebay for $26 each. Once I figured out how to change my left side, it took me about 5 minutes to change my right side.

    Thanks for the video. I had this exact problem with my 2008 is350 with 180, 211 miles. A burst of rotten egg exhaust smell only when I suddenly accelerate on the freeway. Preformed an exhaust leak check using a shop vac and soapy water method. No exhaust leak found. Checked the rear trunk vents. Found the Driver side rear trunk vent flap completely missing. Right side rear trunk flap partially missing. Replaced both vents. Took the vehicle for a test drive on the freeway and no more smell. Thanks a million.

    Just replace these yesterday, I was experiencing that rotten egg smell. But no check engine light or warning signs of a bad cat. regardless it’s good to replace these because of the amp, you don’t want to get water in there. Ratchet , 10mm, extension and long flat head is all that I needed . I saw a comment and another video on this topic about doing it with out unhooking the bumper. Don’t even bother. It would have saved me 10-15min that I spent trying. Haven’t had a chance To drive the car to see if the egg smell went away. I will update with a comment. Thanks for the video though!! Very helpful

      Hi, I just changed my duct vent as well. I used to have this smell issue and when it rained, my amp just stopped working and when I checked my boot, all I could see was some moisture and wet amplifier. Got one from the used market and then purchased the brand new duct vent for both the sides. Got to try accelerating roughly and check if the smell disappeared or not.

      @@albinlibi8513 I never had the problem with the Amp but the smell did go away even under heavy acceleration. But my speakers do sounds funky, I don’t know if that’s its due to old speakers or water damage because I barely go the car like one months ago so god knows how long those open vents were there.

    Thanks a lot!!! My IS is over 200k miles and that smell ruined me for years. I even took in the dealer and they said to “Live with it”. Saw and got both parts from eBay for $50 (dealer is $81 each) It was an easy cheap fix. Make sure all 4 snap closed That bottom ones are hard to snap on. I believe this is an improved design. My old ones were gross. Thanks again. More like this.

      Glad video was helpful. I did the same thing and initially took my car to the dealer and they said my exhaust was fine, and offered no solution.

    I manage to do this without taking the bumper off , go underneath the car and use both hands to press against the filter until you hear the two bottom clips snap then go inside the trunk and pull the filter to you and use a flat screwdriver to push the two clips up.

    Just did the same job a couple days ago. The flaps on both vents were non existent, gone! Got a pair for $20 delivered, but I did notice the knockoff pair I bought didnt have the rubber seal around the perimeter of the ducts. Was tricky taking the old deals off without breaking them so I just put a bead of silicone around therm instead. That sealed them as well as making them fit better because without the seal or silicone they will rattle and let fumes in. Cheers!

    It would appear this rotten egg smell thing is very very common with the 2is model. My vents were shot to hell and desperately needed to be replaced. So I replaced it. Noticed the smell isn’t there anymore.

    For those interested, from what I understand this should fix issues regarding moisture and the AMP. I have yet to test personally but I can provide an update later.
    The 2IS and 3IS also, again from my limited understanding, use different vents. I am not 100% sure so do not quote me.

    Have you noticed a sound difference when flooring it? I JUST replaced my vents and the old flap was completely deteriorated

    Good video... That part number works for both sides? Somebody had told me that #62930 was for the right side and #62940 is for the left?

      So when I bought it, it was two of the same one with part number #62930-12161. The exact description is below:
      GENUINE OEM TOYOTA LEXUS DUCT ASSY QUARTER VENT LEFT & RIGHT 62930-12161 - x2

    Can this also fix the amp moisture problem ?

    • @tancao2029
      @tancao2029  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't even know moisture can get in there like that. But probably worth a shot because if you look at my before photo the piece is all cracked up and it's exposed to the outside element the entire time.

      @rav_6602 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understand yes. I have yet to check my ducts, but I believe they are the reason for the amp issue on my 3IS. Should be the same with the 2IS?
