    I like the idea of adding a rh power bat to slot in the middle of this lineup but I have a hard time seeing an Alonso fit. With Casas returning and Yoshida still around, I don’t see the Sox giving up prospects for a rental in Alonso when 1b will be more than spoken for very shortly. I think as you pointed out in another video, middle IF rh power like dejong is much more realistic. Either way, I do hope we’re adding at the deadline!

    I think that getting JD Martinez back would make more sense for both teams. For the Red Sox, he's a quality right handed hitter with good power (like Alonso) but makes 3/5 the salary. They both walk next year, and both are DH/1B types (although JD is less of a 1B and more DH). It would also take less for the Red Sox to get JD in terms of prospects, since he's much older. But ultimately I don't think the trade will happen, as much as I'd like either player to play in Boston, since what the Sox really need is another solid starter.

    • @redseatradio
      @redseatradio  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      JD has absolutely no fielding versatility and is strictly a DH so I would assume that isn’t someone that they are super interested in

    Just as not likely to happen for a lot of the same reasons, but I still think Vlad Guerrero Jr. would be a great fit, and I believe he still has a year of control left after 2024. I can't imagine what it would take to get him over here, but he would fill a very similar role as Alonso would. Maybe the Jays would be more willing to sell on a down year?
    Also saw an article about making a trade to Texas to get Nate Eovaldi back. Could certainly use the starting pitching depth. One or two big moves could take them from a wildcard fringe team to major contenders in not a lot of time. Certainly not as dynamic, but fills that same DH/back up first & third slot, and we already knows he loves it in Boston. He'd certainly be easier to get, and has less commitment.

    I'm thinking we should add a starting pitcher like Yusei Kikuchi or Jack Flaherty to be able to bump Bello into a long relief role and get rid of Chase Anderson. Trading for Paul DeJong would help shore up the middle infield and adding a better catcher like Danny Jansen, Carson Kelly or Elias Diaz could help the Sox get rid of a struggling Reese McGuire. I could see the Sox going for Alonso if Yoshida gets injured again as they're probably going to want to give Yoshida the majority of the DH opportunity since he's getting paid so much $.

    Not going to happen. The cost would be too great for a rental. Alonzo would lift the Red Sox up, but not enough to put the Red Sox into contention for a Pennant let alone the World Series champion.
    If they get to the All Star break playing like they have been recently, they will be worthy of an investment. It would send a positive message to the team, Cora, and the fan base.
    With regard to the right hand bat I like the idea of Justin Turner coming back to the Sox. He fit so well with the organization, the fans love him. That veteran presence in the club house, the fact he would be playing meaningful baseball would set him up for a productive second half.
    Given his age, his status as a short term rental means he will be relatively affordable. The Sox have 50 plus minor league players eligible for Rule 5. The Sox need to decide who they intend to protect via the 40 man roster, and deal from the pool that will likely be lost to Rule 5. Then it becomes an exercise of who fits with Toronto, and will not be blocked in 2025.

There is no way they would move Nick Privet unless they had another solution for starting pitching which is what I would like to see. I'm with donaldmjordan. The Sox are scoring enough to contend, and that probably even improves when Casas returns. Offense is not a need. I don't believe the Sox have the pitching, with the starters' performances dropping already and all of them about to blow by their previous innings limits. So if anything, get a starter. An overpay for something you don't really need is bad, but if it takes any contributor from the major league roster, it's self-defeating. You gain something for this year, but you also lose something for this year. Plus you probably lose some prospects for the future. If it meant giving up any current pitcher, that's the worst-case scenario.

    We have too much talent in the outfield. Why not throw Roman Anthony out there? The Mets have jack in the way of prospects, nothing close to Anthony. And, to me, prospects are prospects and I would give a good prospect to get a slugger like Alonso in Fenway. And yes he would be fun too.

      No no chance they would trade Anthony for a rental

    Stupid trade proposal. Jeff Passan has terrible trade takes. HE’S A BLOODY RENTAL!!! .250 lifetime BA…no thanks. Overhyped and overpriced.

      @@redseatradio Taking another look at it…You’re definitely right, I’m not too familiar with his game and I needed to look more into his metrics. His only “Down Year” was 2020, but that was the partial year, so that makes sense. My bad. Let’s do it! However…let’s get a starter also.
