- When most people imagine the United Kingdom, they think of London, wry humor and polite people. It might seem unthinkable that Great Britain has some real dung piles among its treasures but these 5 cities will have you wondering why there is a “Great” in front of “Britain”.
At number 5. Sandwell
The available jobs in this West Midlands town are so poorly paid that the average resident has zero disposable income. The good news for locals is that Sandwell has a pretty high mortality rate, so they don’t have to suffer for very long.
At Number 4. Gwent Valleys
No matter which metric you choose to measure Gwent Valleys scores poorly. Crime? Check. Poor healthcare? Check. A-hole teenagers all around? Oh yeah. In a country that’s filled with coastline and rolling hills, Gwent Valleys has none of that. It’s just the worst.
At Number 3. High Wycombe
Petty crime and drug use are present; as is a low employment rate. The little money High Wycombe does have it spends on the schools which is great. Of course, that doesn’t do the average tourist any good.
At Number 2. Southampton
Southampton is simply filled with half-destroyed buildings blotting the landscape. To be fair, the place was bombed in World War II. That is a pretty solid excuse, but on the other hand, they’ve had the better part of eighty years to get the place back in order …
And at number 1. Morecambe
In the 1930s, luminaries like Coco Chanel used to hang out in Morecambe These days, Morecambe is more known for its dilapidation. The coastline outside the city is stunning, but if you’re being completely honest, coasts aren’t exactly a point of pride, and neither is Morecambe.

To answer the narrator's question: The reason that Britain has the 'Great' is because the true meaning of 'Great' is simply 'large' or 'big'. It was added to differentiate between Big Britain and Small Britain, or Brittany, which is part of France.
At that time 'Great' had not taken on the very recent extra meaning of 'wonderful'.

Ethio Gaming when I was growing up in the noth east of England I lived on an estate where the houses were built before world war2.Some of the blocks were damaged by bombs and still standing.Us kids used to play in them it was complete shithole rat infested there was lots of criminals everyone hated the coppers and it was fucking tough the police would dare not enter our street and the harsh northern winters would kill off afew of us.Ive been to jaywick its not that bad at all its just a bit run down.We lived in proper slums and even though it was tough I miss it cos I felt tree in the ghetto.Cheer up man !

Nothing wrong with Southampton i use to work there for two years the main city is great for shopping and has a lot of history like everywhere in the UK there are good areas and bad whatever City or county you visit, i have traveled lived worked all over the UK and Southampton is no where near as bad as some places i have seen.

I’m an American student who goes to university in the Gwent Valleys area and really it’s not too bad there. Socialized medicine, extremely affordable housing, and people are generally very polite as Welsh people typically are. As long as you’re not out too late both alone and looking for trouble you’ll be okay

I'm from Lincoln, but have family in Bradford, statistically it's one of the most financially diverse cities in the UK. Some parts are terrible, but many other parts are really nice. My guess is that you have only visited the bad parts, as Bradford is a big place with over half a million population and bigger than say Nottingham, Leicester, Southampton or Newcastle.

If you’d spun the camera when filming the run down club you’d have seen all the new developments going on ,the club is being developed this year , and 400 yards away is some of the best bars and restaurants anywhere in the UK .Im sure I could come to where you live and drive around till I find similar buildings

Most towns are alright, there's usually bad parts of towns and good parts, if you live in a bad area, housing is cheaper but its obvs gonna be worse. It's mad expensive in London and outer edges of London the price is still high for satisfactory housing. tbf tho, there is a lot of cultural diversity so if you're coming from somewhere else, you should find some ppl from where you came pretty soon. All in all, it's not as bad as it seems in this vid a lot of places are acc really nice

High Wycombe does have some okay places... mostly on the outskirts, which seem to be trying to get away from the inner areas as much as they can! There's some scenic places on the edge of the town, mainly places like Flackwell Heath, West Wycombe, Woburn Green, Cookham and (dare I say it) even bits of Cressex, but High Wycombe proper is really bad. Unless you're there for the Eden Centre or Bucks New University, keep a wide berth. It's sad really, the place used to be fairly decent, and the old high street doesn't look too bad, but most of the area got hit hard by the Credit Crunch and still hasn't really recovered. It'd be nice to see the place go through a bit of regeneration and clean up its act.
My brother used to live in High Wycombe. I thought the town itself was nothing special but there are some lovely places nearby, such as the ones you've listed. Cliveden isn't far away and neither is Marlow, where the Wimpy Bar has a wine list.

I've lived in Southampton my whole life. 23 years so far. It's an alright place to live providing you chose the right areas in Southampton to live in.

All the restaurants were dirty and full
The hotels had uncomfortable beds and small rooms
There was trash all over the floors
And half the places we tried to go we had to return an hour later because there were delays, only reserved spaces or it was horrible
Oh and we ended up eating at a Burger King.

Must be a Ringland girl... that building was a home to many homeless, how dare they blow it up! They've now had to relocate 100 metres down the road under the castle roundabout. Even places that look nice and middle class can be horrible. That’s how I think about the little market town my parents moved me to when I was 12 years old. Everyone wanted to fight the new kid and after I learned to fight back I couldn’t go out in the town for 2 years because someone wanted to stab me. Luckily I escaped when I was 18. We have real problems in the UK that no one wants to talk about.

Bristol is an underrated city but sadly it's slowly turning into a mini London with its increased traffic and soulless London rejects moving here, raising prices especially in the city centre and taking away the fun loving and chilled nature/character of Bristolians. ☹️
