The community is small. If you don't pay you get blacklisted and run out of options quickly . I'm just assuming.

I grew up in a community like this. We would go to the store, get what we needed for the day, and my stepfather would settle the account with the store owner every Saturday when he got paid. We called it "fiao". People trusted each other back then.
People who live in rural areas are the most likely to survive a world collapse. They know how to live off the land and make their own food and supplies.

What amazing to me is that Rose can cook everything out of anything. Her knowledge for cooking never cease to amaze me.
Rose has learned a lot about cooking from her husband who used to be a chef. Plus, the other aunties help her too.
