    Loving the vlog; have just binge watched them all (Between jobs right now). Originally from Wolverhampton we used to play down the cut as kids (around Aldersley Junction). Family were bargees (father's mother and 3 generations prior), Used to take coal to the Cadbury factory in Bourneville. Am now sadly marooned here in a country without any canals; New Zealand. Your vlog has made me homesick but have also fed my, possibly epigenetic, desire to see English canals. Take care, Andrew.

      Wow, a real bit of proper canal history there in your family! Glad the videos bring back memories. Cheers

    Really outstanding video and narrative, as always. When I was a teenager, in the 1960's, I worked on a river boat and found that I experienced an unexpected excitement when going through a lock because of the chance to exchange pleasantries with somebody from the outside world and I wondered if you ever feel like that. You give up a lot to live on the boat, but you gain so many experiences and life long memories that I think it is worth doing. I appreciate you sharing this adventure with us.

    I was on the canals long ago in the 60s. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were far far fewer narrowboats and liveaboards on the canals back then and our 30ft cruiser had a marinised A45 engine and ran on petrol. The problem with petrol engines is that fumes gather in the bottom of the boat and there is always a danger of explosions. So you gotta be careful. I have always longed to go back on the canals, but the problem is that many other things took priority. I enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing.

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The only ones you see with petrol these days are outboards, usually on GRP cruisers but the occasional tiny narrowboat. Glad you like the video. Lots more of my journey on my channel. Cheers

    I love listening and watching your adventures in the canals. I recently heard your comment ...you won't cook, I respect that but I think what your audience really wants to see is a little bit more of your life inside your longboat home...after a days adventure. Mooring up, fixing a cup of tea, summing up your day.

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The audience is going to have to imagine ;-) I don't do anything much because I'm either on the laptop / ipad responding to TH-cam/Facebook/Twitter/Email or watching TH-cam or TV. So it would be a very dull video. By the way, they're not called "long boats", those are what the Vikings used to roam around in. These are narrowboats.

    Regarding what appear to be lock gates, one each end of the embankment at Nantwich. I think you'll find they are indeed alternative to stop boards, they would operate automatically if the embankment was breached, it would be impossible to put stop boards without draining a fair amount of the canal. Our share boat is based at Nantwich marina.

    Another great video David! The canal may be straight but the views are spectacular, even with "Pythonesque" flocks of cows about! I realise for obvious reasons there would be a delay in posting videos, but I was surprised that it's a two month , not two week delay! I hope you post this as one of your " not a vlog" series, just so that we can see the scenery. Great work mate! Gary/Perth/ Aus

      I've amassed so much footage, and at 1-2 days editing per vlog, it gently builds up a delay. It'll be September before you see me finish at the end of June (!)

      Andy M actually it's called a herd not a heard. Heard means to hear.
