This is my first time hearing about subtypes, and creative INFP had me in tears. It explains a lot, especially knowing I'm INFP and have the low Te and have done the Fi-Si loop, but my Ne is so high I keep thinking maybe I'm a weird ENFP. It doesn't help my enneagram is a 7 and I just plain like interacting with people. So HUGE thank you for helping me figure out why.
"Noble Champion" - ESTJ Aspirational - Te-Si preference (authority) "Curious Dreamer" - INFP Ego - Fi-Ne preference (authenticity, philosopher) "Fateful Supporter" - ISTP Superego - Shadow Ti-Se preference (accuracy, physical presence, stoic, lower concern for consequences) "Empathic Counselor" - ENFJ Shadow - Fe-Ni preference (validation, others focus) All 4 of these personalities share a desire to end ignorance in the world and often have an education focus in life.
Thank you so much for this. I think this is very encouraging to harmonizing infps who perhaps have the "softest" (as in non-concrete) skills of any type, and I think can easily feel unvaluable in our society. Sensitivity on top of this and need for alone time as Dario mentioned make it even tougher to be a harmonizing infp. But their perspective-shifting and mediating abilities are certainly needed! *Thank you*!
I remember watching Sean from INFP HD saying that many INFPs criticized him for being in professions that didn't line up with "feelings", so therefore he couldn't truly be an INFP. This video does a lot to correct that fallacy. It really opened my eyes to the variety that naturally exists in every type. So, I think my current profession has pushed the normalizing mindset to the forefront, which I think is good for helping me to step out of myself and into my place in a community. I think I naturally fall into the harmonizing subtype, but I can honestly see myself in all of them. Awesome video, thanks!
I love learning about subtypes. Approaching MBTI any other way is just too limiting. As I listen to this interview I realize two things happen in myself; 1. All subtypes check in during any one day, and 2. every subtype gets overly represented in whatever major phase of life I happen to be in. Great video.
Wow, you are so right about how if you're a certain MBTI type, you'll see yourself clearly in one of these subtypes, strongly in at least 3, and to a certain extent in all 4. I'm pretty sure I'm the creative subtype (including the part about sometimes thinking I might be an ENFP), but also strongly see myself in the harmonizing subtype, and also in certain aspects of the dominant subtype. (Mainly in their strength of purpose and conviction.) I was thinking the normalizing subtype sounded very much unlike me (which I guess is pretty typical for creative subtypes to think, haha), but then when you got into the parts about the normalizing types being more analytical, research-oriented, and thinker-ish/INTP-ish, I was like, whoah, that makes a lot of sense for me as well! So I think this video really clarified that I am indeed an INFP and not an ENFP, but that said I am really looking forward to the 4 ENFP subtypes video, which will help me to explore that question even further!
I relate to normalising INFP, even though it sounds a bit dull. I always recognised that I've pretty strong Si, and can fit 'normal' roles. I'm definitely an intuitive, but can tolerate and even somewhat enjoy structure and stability. Also, I'm analytical lol. But I'm hoping to serve as a herbalist, which mixes in the other sides of infp too... creativity, deep connection with nature, intuition, empathy. I often feel those sides of me are a bit invisible. Also strongly relate to being alone in terms of not knowing other infps, yet seeing a reflection in the culture at large.
Wow I'm struck by the way that Dario is able to really breakdown and hold all these different views and perspectives of the different types, as well as subtypes. I think he is actually channeling his INFP functions in doing so. Very interesting. I wonder if he gets this from his research specifically or from real world examples. I''d venture to say that both. The real mystery for me is how he translates and builds the graphs and data he must be discovering into the broader pictures of personality structure.
This is very eye opening. As an infp, I have quite a few other infp’s in my circle and each one is so different… I’ve been wondering about the validity of mbti honestly. This explains some of the differences between myself and my husband who is a dominant leader type… while I find leadership exhausting and repulsive… I think I’ve found myself in the empathic counselor type. This is really fascinating.
I have some hypotheses about enneagram and subtype, but need more data... One hypothesis is that each subtype tends to align with particular enneagram types, such as e3 and e6 for Normalizing, e7 and e4 for Creative, and so on. But likely, at best this will be statistical.
@debs7411 I'm thinking that too. I have a sort of bubbly energy throughout my day. I get bored easily with tasks and I distract myself by telling myself jokes or singing or talking to someone which only drags out the task lol.
I'm a Creative Subtype INFP. I do photography, video editing, graphic design, i paint, love music wish i could make some, and i cant make a decision on what to focus to be the best in one field.
I really wanted to be the Dominant Noble Champion subtype but i know im the Normaliser...thankfully its a better subtype than i initially thought it would be
I'm mainly a Curious Dreamer, my sister, i think is the Faithful Supporter. I often think about how i use INFPness to justify how i really "do things my way or at my pace", like, TRY to make me get into a relationship when i'm not interested, i dare you 😂but my sister isn't like me and she's stable and very supportive of her husband and kids, kinda like ISFJ in a sense but she's not.. and that always left me wonder if i'm being too carefree + too fixated with my own wants. Knowing these subtypes makes me feel validated
I feel so much better knowing this too! My brother tested as infp and I think he's also normalizing. He has stayed at his heavily sensory based job for years. Whereas I quit my creative job in tv because I couldn't bear being at the CEO's beck and call because he wanted to "make a change" in my work. I LOATHE being told what to do and want to create without being dictated what to create. I also struggle with implementing structure for myself and will go on "binges" with reading drawing guitar and never really mastering something. My brother structures himself seamlessly. His consistency is impeccable. Honestly I thought I was adhd or bipolar because of how differently our lives are lived out as infps. But it makes sense the creative subtype most needs a spouse to give them structure. Maybe thats why I feel like a hot mess lol.
All of these subtype descriptions sound a bit like me, but my circumstances match the life of the normalizing INFP. I wonder how much of this (particularly the jobs by which you typify each subtype) is an environmentally influenced difference. Maybe most dominants were entrusted with responsibilities when they were young. Maybe most creatives had more freedom to pursue their whims. Maybe most normalizings were taught to value practical work. Maybe most harmonizings grew up around interpersonal conflict and learned to keep the peace.

She's disrupting this very intimate self reflecting process and it is infuriating. Not only because of the turmoil that creates in my head but because she steps on my most private turf. She has no right. Her opinion is unwanted and worthless because haven't come to these conclusions myself. It is worthless because it's not actual insight I had (accompanied by the joyous emotion any real insight gives you.) I'm a calibrator. And she's bulldozing right over me, lol. Telling other people what to do... I can't help but find that to be a sign of very low intelligence. Because you can't really tell people what to do. Their wisdom an deliberation will inform them.
I doubt she’s an INFP. Sounds a lot more of an E type. We definitely don’t ‘bulldoze’ or impose our views. We suggest and let others live how they live. We are prepared to walk if there’s conflict and no mutual appreciation or collaboration.

It's Faithful Supporter..

Fateful supporter sounds more like a Fi-Si Ego Jumper (stabilizer, specializer, behind the scene, process oriented)
