  • Klättermusen Freke 2.0 Review | Klattermusen Expedition Bib Pants
Klättermusen describe the Freke 2.0 salopette pants as the sturdiest and most extreme bib overall there is. They also write that Klattermusen Freke 2.0 is perhaps the best salopette pants in the world.
With the price of 950 USD (800 Euro) you expect these shell pants to be just that. But, before you buy them see this Klättermusen review! We have now used the Freke outdoor pants for many years, both the first edition called only Freke and now the last years we also used the Freke 2.0 and they are absolutely NOT “made to last” which are Klättermusen’s slogan for all their clothes.

Great review Matti - really appreciate you "telling it like it is" - refreshing even if it's negative overall. I think the durability of many brands' gear has gone downhill over recent years, presumably in search of increased sales/profit - budgets spent on aesthetics rather than functionality perhaps? Obviously, few of us put their gear through what you do so I guess this is why they get away with it yet still charge top price.

Awesome review and I agree with your conclusion to stay away from klättermusen! My latest experience with klättermusen is a pair of mithril 3.0 pant and the zipper broke within a couple of months. My first pair of mithril pants lasted several years. It's really sad they don't deliver the same quality anymore because I used to love the brand.

    Well spoken!
I live in Stockholm and have bought Klättermusen since 2003. I have also noticed the difference with significantly poorer quality. Living in Södermalm (the opposite of Jokkmokk) - so that ”fashion over function/quality” that Klättermusen have adopted does not hit me so hard. ;)
An rich Argentine bought the brand for some years ago and Nitty-Gritty (expensive fashionstore for hip people here on Södermalm) was or still are the agency for Klättermusen - things have definitely change for the brand!
The brand constantly comes out with new models and updates, which after some time are sold on sale and then discontinued.
Hope you will find a new quality brand that works outside Stockholm!
Myself - I continue to buy the stuff but with the knowledge that it was better before! Loyal to the end. :)

This is the first review of Klättermusen Freke 2.0 & will likely attract a lot of people to your channel. Hopefully, the manufacturer will see this review & seriously consider upgrading the quality into a 3.0 version. There are numerous reviews on the 1.0 version. At present 2.6K subscribers, it will be interesting to watch that number go up as people all over the world read this in-depth & informative review.

And one more comment: This effect of outdoor products/brands one could blindly trust in the past going steeply downhill can be seen with many companies. Especially when it comes to clothing at some point the fashion aspect takes over. This often happens when more and more managers from the broader clothing industry are hired or when a different type of shareholder takes over. Coming from non-functional fashion, these people simply have the wrong attitude.
I experienced this well over a decade ago with the German brand Jack Wolfskin that started as a quality outdoor brand to be reckoned. I remember my favourite and most versatile jacket I bought 2 times over maybe 8 years and using it nearly daily. Both times with outstanding quality and it would last for many years heavy duty. Then suddenly, when I bought the third one it started to peel and break after not even a year. This happened to many of their products. Sad.

You know what I think of your channel, but I must phrase it again: There are so many wannabe-review channels out there with people who either in the worst case base their reviews on feature lists or in the best case use some gear a couple of times. But this is so useless as only repetitive heavy duty use in the field (not for review purposes) REALLY tells you something about the product. Hence this channel is a very rare gem with real live experience with the stuff and gear!
So people: Do not read magazines, do not read what the brands tell you, do not trust all those utterly useless tests and reviews out there - NO! Talk to those guys who actually use all the stuff ... or at least listen to them. All else is futile.
Want to buy a car? Listen to taxi drivers and pro mechanics for advice. Want to buy outdoor gear? Listen to guides and guide companies. Simple as that.

Thanks for this video, Matti. Personally I dislike wearing waterproof over trousers. Very uncomfortable to wear and I hate the "swish, swish" sound as you are walking. In the summer I prefer to get wet and carry a lightweight change to put on when I pitch up. Wintertime is a different story however. Do you have any experience or advice to give regarding Paramo pants? They read good in the magazines but most things do don't they. How do they perform in the real world I'm wondering.

Not that many pants that can handle this much beating, sadly. for a cheaper option, i would buy Klattermusen Brage on sale. but i think your best bet would be the plusminusnoll 3l bib pant. i would avvoid brands as Arc'teryx and norrøna as their pants are heavily relying on Shell (Skall) and gore tex. one fall on the sled and you would have 3 tears and holes, so thats pointless.

That's a very good point but... it's to many problems with the same pair of pants. Different types of problems.
      1. The courdura material break down EASY after only 2 month. Both on my knees AND on the lower part of the legs.
      2. The cutan (function material) delaminate in serberal places at the pants.
      3. The tape is too hard and gives real holes in the pants.
...and on top of that the city-design with thigt legs etc.
...and the fact that the company have changed owner AND today change models/colours and aiming for a totally different target group. They want to earn money and then they need the money from the city people who have the money. They just need the image from the outdoor people today... 😉
