    You are undoubtedly the most honest person I have seen on TH-cam, you really call it the way you see it. I kind of trust you more than the others because you have used the equipment so basically you are making comments based on your own experience and that is exactly what we want to hear...well at least I do. Because it is pretty expensive to buy outdoor equipment so when I buy something I want to know how good / or how bad it performs under all conditions like wind, rain, snow, so thanks for your honest opinion. Keep doing those videos we need to hear the truth about this.

      Suuuuuper thanks for yor feedback!
      I have seen the problem also. Most of the reviews are more a kind of 'unboxing' equipment.
      We will keep doing this work because we think it's fun to make videos AND because we think it's a good way to help people AND if people don't buy crap we have done what we can do to save the nature/planet. 😀
      Thanks again and we'll be back!

    Very good information about rain gear. My interest is in motorcycling but I take a lot of inspiration from experienced hikers and outdoor people like yourself. Great 👍🏾 video and for what you are putting out, you should definitely have more viewers, excellent job.

      We are acctually working as guides and dog mushers in Lapland. Now when the covid come we had to do something else. This channel was in the beginning just marketing platform for our tours. Now when people can't travel we will bring a part of Lapland to the place where you live. I think we will get more subscribers and viewers in the future if we can continue this work.
      We acctually think this is super fun!!!

    Another comment here mentions Páramo clothing. Well worth checking out. Another, smaller brand worth mentioning is Hilltrek, who make Ventile cotton stuff, some of which has Páramo's pump liner inside.

    I have a Bergans gore-tex from 2009. It still rocks. I hate it, but when it rains, it's the one i pick, if the poncho or jerven duken isn't suitable. For pants theres only my haglöfs alpine pants from 2010 i want, as they are layered and slightly insulated, vety well ventilated, and sturdy constructed, and handles wet conditions in a way that you dont feel you get wet even if the fabric are a bit damp. But if its constant pouring rain, a simple one thick layer of rain pants designed for biking, are what I use. For some reason the only ones that actually holds the promise. I have never impregnated it with anything and its not heavy pvc. Depending on the temperature, i will have a base layer, that handles moisture from the inside. Absolutely nothing else works. Look in different markets, and don't get stuck in the "hiking rain department" in the store, is my tip.

    Thanks for your no nonsense videos. They are really good and welcomed, especially your freedom to really speak your mind. A question, What is your opinion of Columbia out dry jackets? Do you have any experience with them. Most of the models are too heavy in my opinion, but they have a few (featherweight, nanolight ) that are light and are supposed to be a little bit breathable. Have they been gaining in popularity in Scandinavia where there is cold wet conditions all the time?

    Im still trying to find the optimal set up -im discovering that a key is knowing you have to change in and out of layers as your temp rises and lowers -i like to hike in heavy rain and its hard to get it just right because of the sweat builds up faster than any water proof fabric can breathe - im looking forward to using some ORVIS gear this winter - they specialize in gear for serous fishing so its really well designed and stronger construction than many of the other top brands -would love to see what an expert like you thinks of their stuff

    • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
      @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t used that by myself. I had some customers who tried that at one of our hiking trips. Their pants was really covered with wax! It worked okay. Not super good but absolutely not super bad.
      If you find a material called Ventile and wax that… I think it is more or less water proof if you use double layers of it.

    I am wondering what the difference between a Gortex Rain Jacket is and a Dry Suit (used for cold weather kayaking, and in some cases they also have for scuba diving). The dry suits I have seen are labeled "immersion Gortex". Also the patent on Gortex ran out a few years ago, since that time other companies that make 'water proof' jackets are offering decent rain jackets at much lower prices. I got a Columbia water proof jacket for half the price what I paid for a North Face jacket and it performs well, but I only wear it for walking around. When I worked outside many years ago, and did hiking in cold/wet weather I could justify spending the money for North Face Gortex, but now I just want something that keeps me dry if walking from car to buildings, or walking around the city on a rainy day/windy day.

    • @tomsitzman3952
      @tomsitzman3952 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used to do a lot of cold weather kayak touring year around , not white water. With a spray skirt on half your body is protected. I wore a thick wool sweater and a wind jacket. not a rain jacket or dry suite. I really enjoyed paddling up on an ice flow and just floating for awhile on top of the ice sheet. In the winter you have to be careful of sun burn reflecting off the water and snow.

    Cool video, it seems, that you have found a good formula, with some reviews, some instructions and some tour videos, you are already over 700 subscribers, so? A good gain since I saw the channel first time!
    I will also say about ponchos, that if one takes a rope, cord or a belt and tie around the waist, (some have it in them, delivered) and some rain pants (or the like, as you mention in the other comment) , then it can be a good, cheap alternative to a rain jacket, when not so active or when biking, if wet lower parts of arms is not a problem? :o) Just lift up the arms to the needed "freedom of movement" is achieved. It is not so wind sensitive that way, but for hiking with a backpack too large to fit under the poncho? That might be possible, just use the backpack belt to strap around the poncho, but I do not think, that it will be a practical solution, but possible to do. (I tried it at home, but cancelled the idea and bought a rain jacket. :o) ) Maybe for beginners or low budget hikers as a "better than nothing", cheap solution? Nice day, as usual! :o)

      @@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Hi again, yes, that would be a good idea, I think. That I have also been thinking about, even before I knew, that these already existed, in this "cheap versus expensive" experimentation and "thinking about" little hobby of mine. How to make cheap raingear perform as well as expensive? It is all about ventilation and such a skirt might be really good? I have also seen people use them in videos, but I do not own one myself. I have been thinking about all sorts of stuff, like raingear "scalloped" like a grater (I think? rivejern, rivjärn in our languages. :o) ) the larger half circles on these, opening downwards of cause, :o) , or such a skirt down to the knee part, strapped onto the leg, and some gaiters with a little wide opening strapped to the lower leg and ancle part, and the "flapping around" would do the ventilation, maybe to get worn a little fast and not good for hiking in vegetation, but? To now the Eureka "great enlightening moment of the perfect idea" has not shown up, but maybe it will, some day. (Now you know what I sometimes waste time thinking about, at least. :o) ) Luckily I do not design such things for living, so? :o) If it is, it would be cool to see such a video on such a skirt's performance in wind and rain, also in colder climates and so, but? :o)

      @axelv1753 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@augustbramming4926 Randonné, trecking, walks, backcountry ski tours. I even used it for sailing, but yeah it is not optimized for that. :-) One of my main criteria when selecting an outdoors jacket is that a simple hood isn´t good enough. To be able to move against the wind in cold or rainy conditions the hood needs to have a wide protruding brim/flange to create a cushion of air that protects the face. This is close to the only jacket on the market to offer that. And it performs excellently on all other criteria except weight. But that is a factor that I consider irrelevant. All outdoors jackets nowadays are so light that its like comparing nothing with nothing. What didn't you like about it?

    • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
      @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Axel... I agree that the hood is very good. I use Brede during the winter if it's really bad weather with hard winds. Klattermusen is well known for the great hoods on their jacket.
      But... it's way to expensive and it's way to heavy for using as a rain jacket. I also know some reindeerhearders who really don't like this because it's leaking water through the fabric. I have the same problem with my pants Klattermusen Freke who have the same fabric as Brede.
      Anyway thanks for your input. Stay tuned because there will be a review of the Klattermusen Freke and Klattermusen Freke 2.0.

    What about ponchos?

    • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
      @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know... That's a very good question. When we was ready with this video and just had it out on TH-cam I suddenly figured out that we totally missed out ponchos.
      Ponchos are really good and you don't get as much condensation as you get in normal rain clothes. If you use ponchos you still need pants or a kinde of chaps/rain leggings or I don't know the English name of them. In Sweden we call them for 'byxholkar'. :-)
      The problem with ponchos is that we hike a lot above the tree line and there you will get some wind. Wind and ponchos is not the best combination so we don't use them. If we don't use them we don't have the knowledge about how to use them and then it's better we talk about something else that we acctually know something about.
      :-)
      But it's a good point. If I have made the video today I have said something about ponchos.
