Hippeastrum papilio - the Butterfly Hippeastrum (syn Amaryllis papilio)

How To grow Hippeastrum papilio a South American bulb. Peviously named Amaryllis papilio and it is better known as the Butterfly Hippeastrum.
Originally from Brazil this is a species that was once rare and is now widely grown for the very attractive flowers that appear in spring to summer.
It can be grown in the ground or in containers and benefits from having a constrained root run.
A little sulphate of potash applied in late summer seems to improve flowering.
