Thank you Echo! As someone who has played civ for many years now, it’s interesting to watch the beginners guide, as I know there’s a lot I don’t know. Case in point: thank you for showing how the “working of tiles” mechanics operates as I knew “of” that ability but didn’t understand how to use it or what it’s good for. And secondly, the fine function - wow! All those times I would hunt the map for a specific resource and I had no idea I could search for it so easily!

Excellent explanation of all of the basic mechanics and resources! Other tutorials often assume we know basic things like why production is or food is valuable. Best guide I’ve seen yet!
Thanks Echo - good guide. My biggest suggestion for those new to Civ is to save often. A lot of learning happens when something happens that destroys your civ and you think you figured out why but you should test it out by going back to the point of failure. I love the fact that you haven't even talked about barbarians and City States yet

I've been playing this game without knowing the very basics ( I even won several times XD but only in domination because I often conquer the other AI playing super aggressive in a very early game) but knowing what does what and why, gives you an instant deep understanding and a way more enjoyable experience, can't wait for your next vid! Just started the video, but thank you already for making a video for absolute newbs like me. I picked up civ 4 way back when, on turn 1 (I was an RTS player at the time) I walked around the map not knowing wtf to do ... eventually was approached by a trader that said hey trade this for that, and before I knew it, I didn't have the resources to build my city. ALT + F4 returned copy never looked back. PTSD confirmed. Hopefully your videos will help, I look forward to them, thank you and God Bless! :D

I played the heck out of Civ IV, didn't touch Civ V much and it's been a while since I did. Recently picked up Civ VI and have been chewing my lip over starting it... and who should have a beginner's series but Echo :'D Smashing, clean and evenly paced, easy to follow along. Interesting to see things I recognize from IV reskinned with new changes and additions.
Civilization has become way to in depth for me. The last Sid Meier's games I played were Civilization and Pirates for the XBox360. I'm going to watch Echo here because he does a great job but my attention span may not last long seeing as this is a guide and not a let's play.
I hope this guide helps me. It's my first game in this genre at all, & I just spent over 2 hours running around in the 6 squares I can move in, building 1 guy, accomplishing nothing, skipping turns up to 20 & now I'm quitting to go to sleep. I feel like my heart was ripped out of my chest & it was used to murder my family in front of me.
Oh snap and here it is! I was just wondering when I’d see this vid lol I play civ 6 on my iPhone, ripped all the mods off the workshop and now I can play on a duel sized map with like 40 civs on a one city challenge 😂😂
Something I would have liked to have answered as you did it is... Why did you choose a tile 4 tiles away for your next (or another) city? What are the advantages/drawbacks to building so close to another city?
The main reason is that any city can only work tiles and build districts/wonders in a 3 tile radius away from the city. With a few exceptions, city tiles more than 3 away from the city center are useless for that city.
Yes, but the position he's placed means all the tiles between those 2 cities are reachable by both and thus the cities are competing for them. Ideally you'd have cities 7 tiles apart so that the 6 in between are being worked, 3 by each city. That can be not ideal because it leaves space open for others to drop settlers before culture reaches that far away. So is there a bad/good distance for competing for tiles and why? @@nazgu1

Im trying to get into civ6, i can see the quality, and many of the seemingly interesting ideas but it doesnt really click that much. Idk if its just the game is shallow or it doesnt explain what matters or not. Like the tbs combat and exploration, hard to really try use the knowledge i found about it, ends up just being group your guys to have support. Idk. Then the trees, u just get one after another. I want to enjoy it more, gonna check your vid. Maybe partly problem is im on the console version idk. The ui is different. I dont have that search in map u show even. Edit: now i notice u talk of dark age, floods etc, that's in dlcs. Im on base game, maybe that's why im missing features too in the base game like that wt map search. Also, i don't think i can rotate camera like u can on pc. And i cant cycle thru my units directly, u need scroll the units list on console, the ui and controls arent up to the pc version, even if neat all in all.
PSA for anyone who wants to buy the DLC but is short on money: if you buy just Gathering Storm you'll also have access to all the gameplay features added by Rise and Fall, so your game will be complete, you'll just be missing a handful of civilizations, leaders and wonders.
civ4 and civ5 are extremely simple games, because archers are WAY too overpowered in archer-zerg-rushes, because the archer-counter is weak and late. Just build archers after rushing the archer tech, and up to 4 melee units to capture empty cities, and do not build anything else. Do not build settlers, builders or ANY city improvements, not even barracks, because earlier archers are better than better archers, and only build ships to not have archers stranded on your captured continent. In other civ-likes, terrain matters more, and ranged-counters are better, so this is not an issue, but civ5 could not care less for balancing.

the game no matter how hard i try is just to stupid and boring, i cant even figure out how to make citizens the menu system sucks, all it keeps saying is move unit builder or end turn, nothing else i can find to make something else happen, not played it before, ive try several times, but i just cant seem to progress even the basic move tile / build something. keep saying move unit nothing else happens other then reading menu's with nothing to do on them on all the other buttons

You folks doing these video really need to get out more often and realize what is truly beginner level. 2:40 " I've rolled up a pretty generic game here..." This is pretty much the very first piece of actual content you have given and ALREADY I am lost. You fail to define what it means when you say you have rolled up a game. It sounds like something out of D & D, but true novice would not even have that kind of guess.
I just started playing. No clue how to play. This guide isn't helpful at all. Over complicates everything. Does not explain basics and does not explain it clearly. If you're going to do a beginner guide, then explain the badics first. And actually clearly. You don't need to go through the whole interface. I cannot even play this game because I don't know how. Why not just start with explaining what you get at the start and what is there? And actual clear info in on basic things needed to know at the start. Starting units. Making a settlement and how that works. Including citizen and population and difference from units. There's no clear explanation on this about max population.

I only played civ revolution on Xbox and I completely completed it 100% but this game is much more complex. I'm interested in learning more on it.
