Thanks for the Hoosier episode my friend. We are always overlooked. Indiana has produced some of the biggest names in rock and pop. Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, David Lee Roth, Mick Mars, Shannon Hoon, and of course John Mellencamp just to name a few. If you were to head north on I-65 you could hit Lafayette for Axl Rose childhood home then if you're real brave you can hit Gary Indiana for MJ's childhood stuff. Again thx bro
The famous Truck scales on I-65 at Seymour we drivers always dreaded. They inspect the heck out of our trucks and log books. Often we find ways to run around the area.
I love John's music. I never did understand why they called him Cougar. He does some nice paintings. The students didn't know where John's statue is, is because they probably never heard of him or his music. It's awesome you got his Bongo drums. They'll be even more awesome after he signs them. Thank you for showing us his hometown. Stay safe and take care.
I saw John early in his career (in his “Cougar” daze) at a cafeteria in a dorm at Michigan State University. We sat in the front row just about 10 feet away. Maybe 200 people in the room. Saw him several times since then at large arenas.
Great video! I love John Mellencamp’s music. I went to one of his concerts a few years ago and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Thanks for doing this video.
Yes!!! Such a cool video. I was privileged to attend the unveiling of his statue in Bloomington a few weeks ago…awesome. I jog past his statue each morning so I must have just missed you Jordan 😊
What a fabulous informative vlog! I'd stay in that Air B&B 4 sure! That shop of his is awesome, cute little Nash Metropolitan car and the art work is amazing. The statue reminds me a bit of Johnny Ramone ❤ enjoy yhose bongos! 🐩
I met John years ago. It was down south of there at a restaurant just before you go over the Ohio into KY. Nicest guy ever...to me. Wasn't so nice to the guy that yelled...Hey Johnny Cougar! He sorta told him off and told him to never call him that again. But, was cool to me. Signed my Scarecrow cassette for me. When I have talked about him I have never said Cougar ever. I dont want him yelling at me! LOL
I still recall enjoying the heck out of his concert...in Mannheim, Germany! Like most here, I've got all his albums...sadly, I've not yet bought one of his paintings. This is SUCH a beautiful vlog, and I'm really happy you made it. It looks like you enjoyed it, too! Much aloha to you and Jah...two Musketeers running along those highways and byways together...
Hey Jordan 👋 Me and my wife are from Indiana!! Been to Seymour several time's. John is a Hell of a guy for sure. Love his hometown roots and music. We Usually go to brown county for the day and then Seymour.
First, hello to that beautiful doggie, Jah❤ Jordan a lot of us did not know this existed so kudos to you. I remember going to a John Melloncamp concert and feeling the need to just get up and dance. That man could move and dance back then. Very exciting to watch and I feel lucky to have seen him. Great job on buying the bongos and getting them signed. So lucky! 👍🏻
Awesome vlog. Love what he stands for. Never knew about his antique/art gallery. Hope I can get there in the near future. Our place has been keeping us busy and giving us no time to travel.😢
Hi Jordan & Jah, Great vlog of John Mellencamp. I did see him in concert in Milwaukee, Wi in the 80’s. Love his music. Take care, give Jah a pet from me & hi to Katie 😃
Great Vlog Jordan My 4 sisters and myself love to dance to his music. I've always wanted to go down to Seymour, not to far from me. Your always Welcome to Stop by when your in the area ❤
You should go to Brooklyn Pizza in Seymour. It has mural of Larry Crane who was John's guitarist for many years and he grew up in Seymour. Larry's is incredibly talented and a great guy too!!
Great vlog, Seymour is 45 min from my house. My late dad got to meet John once at a party where john and his band was playing at before John got famous. My dad got to shake his hand. My late grandmother met John's mom she used to host art shows in Seymour. Also i got to meet John's first bass player at my college in VU. His name is Dave Parman, hes a music prof at VU. John also attended VU long time ago also. Story has it, that John would park his motorcycle in his dorm room at clark hall.
Ugh. I live about 35-40 minutes from Seymour. I would fangirl out for sure if I ever ran into you. I live about 25 minutes from IU. The statue is pretty awesome!!Lol Fun fact. My mom dated a guy who was in one of John's first bands. His name was George. If you came through Bedford, that's my town.
Hi Jordan!! John Mellencamp and The Boss were the background music to my teen years! I am from Iowa ,where he and Willy did the Farm Aid concerts. Thanks for this!!! He is one of my favorites. Favorite song is "Hotdogs and Hamburgers" ( I am Native)
Also, I live very close to his childhood home. I could almost throw a rock and hit it. His dad still lives here. If you would messenger me I could tell you a little more.
Seymour is also the sight of the first train robbery in the U.S. Reno bros gang. Additionally, on of the best professional wrestling trainers of all time Huslter Rip Roger’s is from Seymour. He hosts a channel called “Wrestling with Rip Roger’s” with my cousin; Vaughn Lilas of OVW fame.
You’re in my state. I live in Martinsville, Ind. I’m 20-30 min from Bloomington, Indiana. My son played football with his sons growing up in Bloomington. Welcome to Indiana Jordon.
I go to indiana university and I can't believe that I missed out that day when he got his statue :( I found out couple hours after the event and was so bummed.
Many years ago (75 or 76) there was a late night commercial that started out "Introducing Johnny Cougar". We were a bunch of hippies wondering who Johnny Cougar was. Didn't hear about him for a couple of years but several years later he was all over the radio. Eventually he went from John Cougar Mellencamp to John Mellencamp.
When this started I thought, " I know his name, but none of his music." You started naming off the songs and I was like, I had no idea that was him...lOl! I loved his music without celebrating the artist, well that's not happening anymore!!! Great music, John Mellencamp, awesome artwork ❤ I saw his Nephew, Hud on 'It's All Relative" he was a smart player!!! Thank you, Jordan, wonderful video 👍👍
You were right down from Reno's Brothers Gravesite they committed the World's first moving train Robbery. Its strange t he e other Day you were in Corydon Indiana where I grew up at.
I live in Seymour. You missed the farm house on hiway 11 he lived in too. It was also in the movie he was was in "Falling from Grace". Which was a flop by the way
He played in the coolest movie theater in Columbus Indiana called the crump theater he was known as Johnny cougar then I'm not sure of the year or even if that kool theater is still standing
Well I live here in Bloomington Indiana and there's one place you missed that involves John mellencamp. He actually lives at lake Monroe here in Bloomington. He has a nice house out there. While you were here, you should have drove by and you could have seen where he actually lives..
Thank you Jordan for producing this brilliant episode and introducing me to John Mellencamp's artwork. And what a great ending - well done with the autograph! Also just wanted to mention how impressive the autumnal landscape looked. This episode was certainly a tonic.
Really enjoyed this video and need to go check out his antique store. Did you happen to go in the guitar store next to the mural? The owner was in John's band and he donated the wall for the mural and park.
While I love and support Jordan and Katie, I find Mellencamp to be insufferable. I went to see him a few years ago and I have never witnessed an "artist" have such vile contempt for his or her audience. He continually stopped the show, threatening to quit and leave the stage if people didn't stop "all that f#$&-+g clapping and singing along!" He was such a puke I couldn't believe I paid my hard earned money to see him! Now, Thanks for the great video Jordan! Your work is always top shelf and professionally done! I always look forward to your videos and I'm thrilled you found the wonderful Katie! Behind every good man, theres a good woman. Someone said.....
He’s one of our greatest pop songwriters. But what a cranky, short-tempered dude. So much to be grateful and happy about, but he’s always pissed off. 🙄
If it hadn't been for Mick Ronson...(Ziggy and the Spiders From Mars) the song "Jack & Diane" wouldn't never had been made. Story goes he was working on the song but couldn't get it made. A friend of David Bowie's suggested Mick to come and give it a listen. Mick suggested it needed baby rattles. John was like "what the f#*k? Mick then explained that it would be a drum solo then suggested a choir on "Let it rock let it roll." The rest is music history.
The state of Indiana is the boyhood home of three of my favorite singers. John Mellencamp, Axl Roses, Shannon Hoon. Thank you
The famous Truck scales on I-65 at Seymour we drivers always dreaded. They inspect the heck out of our trucks and log books. Often we find ways to run around the area.
Like the Little Feat song "willin" haha
Rain on the scarecrow... My favorite jam of his.
“Cougar” was the idea of a manager he had years ago.
@@mariaday712 i understand why he hated it! It sounds so silly, and it’s not as if Mellencamp is difficult to pronounce
I saw John early in his career (in his “Cougar” daze) at a cafeteria in a dorm at Michigan State University. We sat in the front row just about 10 feet away. Maybe 200 people in the room. Saw him several times since then at large arenas.
Wow and signed!!! He is such a great performer and he was absolutely brilliant when he played in Perth many moons ago ♥️🇦🇺🌻🙌

He attended VU and his former bass player Dave Parman is the music prof there when i attended VU in the early 00s.
