John Pennisi said he was introduced to Merlino and Merlino was introduced as the boss of the Philadelphia family. John Rubeo was told by many people that Merlino was the Boss of the Mob
He didn’t. I watched Penisi talk about meeting Merlino. I don’t remember his exact words, but he said something like he wasn’t sure if he was the boss or not. He did two or three videos that involved meeting Merlino. It wasn’t in the first one, it was in a later video.
@@willmosse3684 the ones where he talks about a meeting between Joe Cafe and Ronnie G he specifically says that Merlino is the boss including when they went out to eat at Peter Lugers

I just went back and watched all three videos about the Joe Cafe, Ronnie G, Peter Tuccio situation, plus the one about when they went to eat at Peter Lugers. Those were the videos I was talking about, so thanks for reminding me. He only mentions Merlino’s status once across all four videos. It’s in the second one, titled Joey Merlino, and the Bonanno Ultimatum. At 5:02, he says “Joey Merlino, who as everyone knows is the ALLEGED boss of Philadelphia”. So he definitely does NOT say Merlino was introduced as the boss of the family. He implies he may be, but he does not say anything definitive on that point.
In another longer video with Jersey mob reporter Dave Schratweiser titled Joey Merlino’s [Reorganization], he starts of talking about the family as if Merlino is definitely the boss. However, at 22:55, Schratweiser asks Penisi, “what’s the respect factor for Merlino when he’s in New York around guys from other families?”
Penisi answers: “they’re gonna respect him as another friend. A lot of people don’t recognize him as the boss even though he *was* [emphasis on was, as in past tense]. There was a lot of things that took place in the past, but a lot of guys for whatever reason they’ll meet him, whether they recognize him as a boss or not you know is on them.”
The conversation then moves on, and they don’t address that any further. So I don’t think we can use Penisi as source that definitely confirms Merlino as boss, or even that he was definitely boss in the mid to late 2010s, when these meetings took place. It seems like Penisi thinks he probably was/is boss, but he never straight says that that is the case, and he says that other made guys in New York think he is not the boss. So it’s just not clear…

Can we stop having the “what if Salvie killed Nicky Scarfo” conversation for the 10 millionth time? First of all- that never would have happened. Salvie, for all intense of purposes, followed the rules of LCN. He never would have just went rogue and clipped a boss. He would have been clipped for doing so anyways. The feds were building indictments against them regardless and that whole crew would have went down in 87 with or without Scarfo. And Salvie would be doing life. And Leonetti would have flipped. Absolutely nothing would have changed the course of history if Salvie did that. The smartest thing he could have done was move away for a few years til Scarfos paranoia subsided or the heat in general wore off. Perhaps he’d still be alive today.

No. He used him to get made. So Merlino and his crew could get their foot in the door to take over and become legitimized by NY. He wasn’t using Natale to protect himself from the feds. The feds have been up Merlinos ass everyday for the last 25 years. He’s still constantly surveilled by the FBI everyday.

I worked for J.V. his brother said fuck him he ain't wearing no S on his chest. And believe it or not we always stayed low key away from those people . They wanted to meet never met with any of them and basically he died down into nothing. Also there were big outfits in New York using our line which probably had an effect on them staying away. Because we had the best line in the country and a lot of the outfits we gave our line to in New York I imagine had some ties to organize crime but that's all they would do is get the line and get the changes and give us small pieces
