Good point about the Mancuso failed murder plot. Massino perhaps did the most damage to the crime family by telling the FBI they planned to kill Mancuso because they’ve been stuck with a terrible boss recently. Bosses nowadays are hard to supplant because they aren’t getting killed and the commission isn’t meeting anymore so unless the guy steps down, you’re pretty much stuck with him until he dies. Not even prison can take them out. Just look at Amuso and Persico.
If all captains agree they can shelve a boss non-violently even ,early retirement.

Vinny was made in 1990, became Capo in 2001 and became Acting Boss in 04(though he was helping the Panel run the family throughout 2003 and early 2004)
In Late 70’s early 80’s Vinny was already Close to acouple Powerhouses . Massino was wary of Vinny because he wanted Yes man and not guys that would be able to take over.....
That basciano story with him and Dom in the corvette he tells on his channel is amazing 😂. I can only imagine what the Connecticut state troopers talked about that night when they got back to the station
Massina flipped 5 minutes after he was convicted. He didn’t even leave the courthouse before he flipped.

Say what you want about Mancuso, it doesn’t sound like he’s been a great boss imo either, but the fact that he weathered the storm and didn’t cooperate after learning about multiple failed murder plots within his own family, then being convicted of 20 years in prison- is really amazing imo. Not many guys would have stayed loyal in his position.

I heard Dom say this in some video recently and I think he's correct about joe Massena. Joe brought the family back but he was too worried about other people usurping power so he filled all the leadership positions with guys who weren't the most solid and found "reasons" to have some stronger guys hit. So when they start feeling the heat almost all of them flip.
Well and that also explains why their leadership sucks today. Same with the Colombo’s and the same thing is gonna happen to the Lucchese. Carmine Persico held onto power for way too long and didn’t breed any future bosses. Same thing Amusos doing now from prison. Not to mention when Vic and Gas wiped out damn near half their family when they took over. And the Colombo’s also had a war. Just imagine where those families would be today if those things didn’t happen.
That’s ultimately the biggest downfall for all these families- leadership. It starts at the top. If your leadership sucks it doesn’t matter who’s underneath you because they’re not gonna get the most outta them.
That’s why the Gambinos and Genovese have continued to be so strong all throughout history up until the present day. Both families always had great bosses at the helm.

I used to go to Tijuana to get pain meds like Norcos and oxycodone all the time when I lived in San Diego. Yes I did have an addiction to these meds and I'm certainly not advising anyone to do the same. I put myself in some dangerous situations where i could have been incarcerated or killed.

I’ve heard so many names thrown around the last couple years they probably have a panel of high ranking capos running the family. That’s why there hasn’t been any other indictments on them. Or one boss in particular.

Vitale is a chameleon type guy, total snake. He was in love with being a high ranking wise guy, then as soon as the cards folded he changed his colors becoming a devastating cooperator. I've read as soon as the cuffs hit his wrist he told the arresting agents he intended to cooperate.
I thought the guy in prison took the lead, saying hes the boss for life taking the heat.
Can we stop this whole “Sal Vitale was an ex police officer or ex prison guard” thing… he was a corrections officer for less than a year way back in the late 60’s. It was like 9-10 months that he worked there. I understand the mafia has all their technicalities, but I just hate when ppl continue that narrative nowadays. Is it true? Yea. But the way ppl talk about it they make it seem like he was doing it as a career his entire life then just became a made guy.

Scott yes Massino did a lot of great things for the family ...But he did a lot of bad things to. If he put the right leadership in places the circa 2002/2004 wouldn’t of been what it was.

Vinnie can run it from jail...Vick did it from prison for his whole life!! A lot of Bosses can but guys like Nick Scarfo would not name a boss because he want control over everything!!! Where a guy like Vick Amuso name a boss so he and his family keep getting paid...he was well respected! Not by just his family but also the rest of the family's bosses.

He was a corrections officer in 1968 after he got out of the military for less than a year. Then he went on to work for Massinos catering business. That whole narrative of him being a cop is blown way out of proportion.
