    Thanks for the review. The top grips and suspension stem look most useful for me. I have a Cane Creek Thudbuster ST. My biggest surprise on the suspension post is how great it is for my daily commute on Seattle's pothole plagued streets. Your point about suspension posts and touring style matches my experience. After a tour that ended with me not being able to hold utensils like a grownup, I like anything that is kind on my ulnar nerves.

      Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed the review. I have been enjoying it on our pot hike streets as well. I love Seattle, fun city. Hoping to make it back there soon now that the border is open again.

    Great review. I had this suspension stem on my old bike. I now have a Specialized Diverge with the future shock.

    I have the KS bars, tape, and grips and love them. It was an immediate notice in comfort compared to stock bars.

      Totally, easily one of the favourite upgrades I made to this bike. Bike safe.

    I love the bars too. I have my light mounted out front on the loop. I had no issues with my Karoo 2 mount.

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Did you mount in near the stem clamp or close to the tops?

    • @kevlow2295
      @kevlow2295 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SirBikesAlot About 4mm from the clamp. Squeeze and hold together until the bolt has grabbed a few threads.

    how does it handle handle bar weight like a handle bar bag?

  • @JamiedoesWildBikepacking
    @JamiedoesWildBikepacking 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey mate great vid. I'm using a Redshift stem, running steel forks it really helps to take the sting out of the trail. Not so much, hits but for long time buzz from the trail that causes fatigue. The long bar tape is very interesting as I like to wrap the bars a fair way in and struggle with length. ATB mate

    nice video!
    which cranks are on your bike at 7:57?

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching :) The cranks are Sram X5 and the chain rings are 42/28, so I get a fairly wide range on the both the top and bottom. I could use a bit more on the lower end, but couldn't we all?

    • @AaronGruber
      @AaronGruber 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Sir Bikes Alot thanks! I was thinking about swapping my 50/34 crankset for a 46/30, but this seems even better! I run a 11-42 cassette, so that should be a pretty nice low gear!

    i am thinking on buying the stem but the lengths available are worrying me. the shortest one is 80 mm while latest gravel bikes are designed with longer reach and short stems (mine is 60mm) so i don't know if the resulting reach would be too much!

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. My gravel bike came with 110mm stem. What kind and size bike are you riding?

    • @feralearthworm3044
      @feralearthworm3044 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was worried about that too. However, it looks like if you buy the sweptback bars and the comfort top inserts, it would bring it back 40mm or so on the tops. I think the hoods, brakes, and drops would still be okayish too, brought back around 25mm, maybe?

    I can confirm that the redshift suspension stem is very good. But I may now experiment with different elastomers. I am not sure how jouncy it should be. I just used it Nanaimo to the Pot Holes so far. Nothing too rough. I just use a cheap MEC suspension seatpost suspension which I found adequate on my Trek 420 and the tandem.

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice, glad to hear it working well for you Barry. Is the MEC seat post a similar design?

  • @jimmccorison
    @jimmccorison 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You've pretty much confirmed my initial choices; stem, top cruise control, and bar tape. Thank you. What is the bar packing system you are using?

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it was helpful for ya Jim. I’m using a front cradle from aeroe. It’s a bit heavy but works really well 🤙

    • @jimmccorison
      @jimmccorison 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SirBikesAlot They claim only 1 pound, so not too heavy. How easy is it to remove and reinstall? It looks like a great solution.

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimmccorison Pretty simple. It attaches with two straps that you tighten with an allen key; takes maybe a few minutes to put on and only a few seconds to take off.

      @@SirBikesAlot Sounds good. I just ordered one along with a dry bag. Now, if only the international ferry from Washington to Sidney would start running again. I'm looking forward to getting back to Vancouver Island.

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome. Hope you enjoy it. Re the ferry, from what I was reading they have staffing issues for Washington ferries. You can still ferry from port angeles to Victoria, that ferry is running.

    Also live on VI. Just purchased the RS stem and seatpost. What tyres are you running during your cross VI trip?

    • @SirBikesAlot
      @SirBikesAlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope you enjoy the RS items. I used Vitoria mezcals- 29 by 2.25 inch. Great tires would highly recommend. I just built a new wheelset and tossed on a fresh pair.

    I use the Can Creek Thudbuster ST. It's on less challenging surfaces than you ride on and like your experience, I think the results are small. Nice review on all the other gear.
