    My father in law worked for Bowmore Distillery all his life. We now have his whisky collection which includes a bottle of this that has never been out of the wooden crate or even left the island of Islay. Don’t think I’ll ever open it as I can’t afford to (!) but this review really makes me want to try it. It’s about £6k in value now but I suspect that’s only going one way! Thanks for the review.

    Great review! Sounds that a value buy! Yes, do a video on what was used in the 50s & 60s compared to today's whisky. You should also do a video with Emmanuel Dron on fakes. He may appreciate it as he could promote is book which covers so much of what you're talking about. It would be an epic interview. Interviewing Emmanuel Dron (like your reviews on the museum bottles you do) would be stupendous! This is a way of capturing the golden age of whisky history on video. No one else is doing this. Anywhere.

    haha I like your description of this one (haven't tried it but Black Bowmore & White Bowmore from 1964) but it seems it is more than time to call the Anti MaltoPorn Brigade, right ? (lol, Serge would have mentioned it). Other insane exotic fruit bomb was a Berniach 1976 for Whisky Fair Limburg, don't know if you tried it...? Besides, I agree with Eric Yeh comment, it is a bit frustrating to see the bottle & glasses from so far (but I see you corrected it for your PE 40 yo review so well done!). Life is hard on Malt Reviews, lol, enjoy it guys, as times are tough so we deserve some relief/reward/air/transcendance ! I thought it was a good whisky (definitely not mind blowing) based on my memory of tasting at a whisky show early this year. If I knew this was going to be your highest scoring whisky then I would have paid bit more attention while tasking. lol. The one I tasted was from a 750ml bottle. I am not if there is any quality difference between UK and US release of this bottle. Great review!

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is lots of batch variation, this is a soffiantino bottling. Also these ceramic bottles aren't the best in terms of storage so some bottles flatten out so there is a little luck involved or at times bad luck I should say. Also it is very hard to analyze whiskies at events, your trying so much whisky it eventually it all starts blending together as you know. All that being said I have no idea how similar or diff the one you tried was. Its not our highest score but def up there. Thanks!!!

    • @scotchbuddy9523
      @scotchbuddy9523 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maltreviews The one I tasted was not soffiantino bottling. I agree with everything you said. There are so many variables that influence whisky taste. I was mindful of palate fatigue so I tried as few whiskies as possible during my time at the show and bottled most of them. I am enthusiastic about whisky and like to try different ones but not crazy enough to spend thousands on a single bottle, much less 5k-10k+. I think some of these whisky shows provide a cost effective way of tasting old and rare whiskies without breaking the bank.

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@scotchbuddy9523 100% , if you can make it to some of the better shows then its an amazing way to try some very expensive , epic whiskies at a very fair price.

      @@scotchbuddy9523 The one the whisky exchange has is one of the best and of course the whiskybase is legit. I wish I could say that I have a lot of experience with whisky shows but living in the States we do not have many good options and traveling for a show is not easy.
