    So let me get this straight. You title your video 'Top 10 Batman Comics You Should Read' but then tell us the massive plot twist of Batman: Hush, which is that Thomas Elliot, is Hush. What's the point in people reading it if you're just going to ruin the biggest pull to these books for the people who haven't read it?

    DC's best decision: Frank Miller
    DC's worst decision: Zack Snyder

    • @celia1888
      @celia1888 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      dc's worst decision was scott lobdell and tynion iv.
      snyder's stories are not bad in themselves if you don't try to put them in the actual continuity and think of them as belonging in an AU. the mistake was to put him in a 'normal' continuity. (I meaann he's far from the best but we have had worse writers in DC like Willingham at least on his Robin run, war games' one of the worst written arcs)

    • @ethanjones1327
      @ethanjones1327 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Célia Collet Wow, that was a longer and smarter response than I ever expected to receive. But I mean now, Snyder may have effectively ruined the DCEU which I know isn't everything but it is a lot to people who want to see major characters on the big screen. True they may be bad in comic sense but in my opinion, Sndyer is one of the worst as far as movies go.

    • @celia1888
      @celia1888 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ethan Jones I can imagine the kind of response you were expecting and I'd like to believe I think my comments through enough not to appear too stupid XD
      About Snyder, I'm not so sure. BvS's Batman is pretty much Batman at the time of A Lonely Place of Dying. from what I gathered from interviews the point was to show batman at his worse to criticize how he's usually portrayed in mainstream media and how utterly unhealthy and dangerous it is for him to basically 'work alone'. Most of the problems I had with the movie were resolved in the extended cut actually. the thing is he works a lot with symbols in MoS and BvS so I can see how it could be annoying (I strive for this kind of writing when it's well done). I actually felt like the movie was written through Tim Drake's view of Batman in a LPoD in a way (it may be because I really liked that part of the comics sinceTD has my favorite Robin introduction).
      A lot of the problems I've seen come more from trying something with camera work for example in MoS which, sure in the end wasn't well done but when thinking about the why's (here it was to represent Clark's emotional state) is actually interesting. I mean BvS wasn't a great movie but I ended up liking it far better than Cap 3 which was still really entertaining and solid for its genra of entertainment but very weak in how it was supposed to talk about the consequences of super heroing.
      Wow I went a little far here.
      but basically Snyder's not that bad for an AU. Plus I think they started darker because they wanted to give an alternative to the MCU's light heartedness instead of just copying it.
      I guess it depends on what you want to see when you go watch the movie whether you go to see a fun superhero movie or a more questioning one.
      The problem with Lobdell or Tynion is that a lot of people came to the comics world after watching the (animated) movies or the cartoons and used the reboot to start with and as such were introduced through the New 52's badly stereotypically written characters and though the reboot added some nice things it was overall almost more of a mess than the continuity before the reboot (seriously death of the family/courtofowls....can stand on its own but if you try to place it in any continuity doesn't have a leg to stand on) and those two are some of the worst authors to write Batman or superman related stories (their Tim Drake seriously makes me wanna cry). at this point I'm almost disgusted to read anything new from DC :/ I'm just gonna try green arrow and super sons (because I need a sb/robin fun comic and if I can't have Tim & Kon I'll settle for their successor).
      Where was I going again ? Oh right I stand by the idea that those two are some of the worst thing to happen to DC because new readers who'll think New 52/rebirth is the best way to learn about the comics will get those (it doesn't help that in some countries like France we get comics in bound books and most of them are from the N52:/).

8.Dark victory
    7.RIP (read batman and son and black glove first otherwise it won't make sense there both collected in the batman and son omnibus)
    6.death of the family (not a death in)

      I totally get where you're coming from, but I personally never really looked at TKJ as a Batman story. I felt that it belonged to Joker, Jim, and Barbara far more. It is still one of my favorite graphic novels and I consider it to possibly be one of the richest stories ever told within the mythos, but as far as focus is concerned, Batman is the least important person in it to me. That doesn't make it bad in any way, it just feels different in that regard compared to The Cult, Hush, TDKR, etc.

      @McScroggz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jeremy Fields I would definitely switch Death in the Family for Death of the Family. Zero Year is really good, but I felt like it had some pacing problems plus some other stuff that bothered me like how they portrayed the scene of Joker falling into the chemical vat - and while Year One is short, it's also very well paced and has one of my favorite Batman moments (though I love the Riddler in Zero Year, so tough choice). I'd definitely have Black Mirror on here too. Even End Game is good enough to at least make the honorable mentions.
      The Scott Snyder/Greg Capullo team is possibly the best duo to ever do Batman, I still can't believe they couldn't even crack the top ten.

    • @1011carson
      @1011carson 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +McScroggz I feel like endgame was just a rehash and Scott going for wow factor which is not necessarily bad it's just he tries to pull of these big stories but nothing important ever comes of them. Now you could say there is a new batman and everything else but i can almost guarantee everything will be the same by next year

    • @McScroggz
      @McScroggz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, in comics there is no real permanence for major characters - especially somebody like Batman. So, I suppose End Game won't have the same impact as, say, Grant Morrison's run on Batman; but even without lasting impact the story was still a lot of fun and well told with some great moments. Death of the Family didn't have lasting ramifications, but it was fantastic anyways in part because Snyder is aware enough to subvert the expectations of the readers (though the title gives it away). I don't think there needs to be major shakeups to the DC universe for a story to be amongst the best.
      I will say though, there is something lacking in End Game but I'm not sure what it is exactly.Carson Dawes

    The Dark Knight Returns at number one? Featured all of Batman's classic enemies? There were only two. The Dark Knight Returns in my opinion is incredibly overrated. I understand how it so important I just don't like it. If I want to buy a novel, I would buy a novel. The artwork isn't great and you could barely tell what the hell is happening in half of the comic. There really was no reason for Superman to being together. The whole fight is just incredibly boring.
    Save yourself the time, & a bunch of money and just watch the animated adaptations. 100% better.

      To understand "Heart of Hush" (or "Hush returns", "House of Hush") it's pretty important to read the original book.
      Yes the villain's identity can be guessed pretty quickly, and his plan is overly complicated (almost on Luthor from BvS level) but Hush is a great villain and this comic is worth reading, even just to read the sequels.

    • @lavacomic-geek3346
      @lavacomic-geek3346 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Except it's not an intelligent master piece. All Frank Miler did with this story is maker Batman darker than he already was. He really only came back because of his midlife crisis, and the political themes are shoehorned in if you ask me. The dialogue is not that good today, with the exception of a few select panels and quotes. many characters are given ill fitting personalities, like Superman, who is demoted into being a mindless slave to the U.S. government, and Joker, who went from being someone obsessed with Batman to being your average run of the mill homicidal madman who looks like a clown. The art is atrocious for the majority of the book, with a good panel or two being spliced in. I don't see how anyone can be educated from this, and while new comics may not be as ground breaking as this book once was, it does not make them lesser stories.

    • @lavacomic-geek3346
      @lavacomic-geek3346 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** But it did not. Frank Miller, in writing this "masterpiece" missed one of the most important parts of Batman's character.
