Can’t believe this video (and my son Nolan) are 1 years old now! Hope everyone made the best of this crazy past year, stayed safe, and read some great Batman comics!
Thank you all so much for your likes and comments on this video. Over 4K views might not seem like much to other channels, but it is a huge deal to me and I couldn’t be more appreciative to those that took the time to watch. Much love ❤️
I feel like when people are mentioning coronavirus or lockdown or quarantine it’s a great way to timestamp the vid. Like capturing this special historic event. It’s a sad, horrible thing, but it’s weird knowing we’re living in a memorable time.
Good timing. I was just putting my own list together and stumbled upon your video. Love this list and how the top 3 wasnt the usual top 3 we see on so many lists!
I'd go:
1) Long Halloween
2) Year One
3) Court of Owls
Your top 12 isn’t my top 12 but you weren’t wrong once! Nodded my head throughout the whole video. All of these books are the shit
Thanks man! I was looking for some hidden gem storylines. I can't wait to read the deeper cuts, the artwork looks, yes, "stunning", especially in Arkham Asylum and Hush.
Batman: Ego might be a boring one for a lot of people, as its really just Bruce talking to himself in a way, but to me, it's required reading for anyone looking to truly understand the character. It's pretty short, but it's a masterful look inside Bruce's mind and how his "personas" work.
I agree mostly with your list, haunted knight would be on my list though since it’s so creative and artwork is beautiful
Definitely have a few of these on my buy list and can not wait to read them. Now that stories like Joker War and Three Jokers are out, I wonder if they would make the list. Personally I find them both to be such amazing stories that show the jokers intelligence and sadistic ways so well
I just finished The Long Halloween, my first graphic novel. It was incredible. I wound up binging the whole thing in one session.
You should also read Haunted Knight and Dark Victory . Haunted Knight , Long Halloween and Dark Victory are a trilogy in that order . Enjoy👍
I'm AncientAmigo, and I'm going to spread the word about this TH-cam channel!
Good picks! kinda surprised no man's land didn't make the list
Just finished “The Dark Knight Returns” damn, I loved it.
Now im gonna start “year one”. I can’t wait.
I wish I can go back in time and read them over for the first time! Enjoy Year One!!! I recommend watching the DC Animated Film too once you’re done reading the story.
Nice. I just really got back into reading comics last year and those two, along with The Killing Joke, is where I started.
Son of the Demon is a graphic novel that portrays the actual real idea of the character and his form that's made him so popular and an icon to the globe.
The cover is ahead of it's time as it precedes Alex Ross. That's the best well see of the popular icon brought into physical life.
If you haven't read it, I highly recommend "Blind Justice" by Sam Hamm, for the 600th issue of Detective Comics in 1989. Hamm is a screenwriter (see Tim Burton's Batman). For his comic arc, Hamm did NOT go for the predictable Joker story, or an "all the rogues gallery getting together to take Batman out" plot. Instead he creates a conspiracy within Wayne Technologies, compelling Bruce Wayne and Batman to make choices, and accept consequences, that must be lived with. Hamm's story is also based on science (even if it is science fiction, but no magic, supernatural, etc), and morality, which make the best stories imo, and it explores some of the true costs of being Batman, how Bruce Wayne reinforces his obsessive focus and motivation almost daily, and the price he pays for it.
I have not read it but will def check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
My top 10: (If I miss any all-time great on this list it's probably because I haven't read it yet)
10. Europa
9. Dark Knight Returns
8. Batman and Robin Eternal
7. Killing Joke
6. Gotham By Gaslight
5. Batman Eternal
4. Hush
3. Court of Owls
2. White Knight
1. Long Halloween
Long Halloween
Arkham asylum
Black mirror
Dark victory
Gotham by gaslight
Hush
Batman Noel
Batman year one
Under the red hood
Killing joke
Court of owls
Batman danmed
Death of a familly
Great list! Death of the Family and Under the red hood were really tough for me to exclude.
Don’t know if you’ve read this, but I recommend Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader by Neil Gaiman. It’s my favorite Batman story of all time, and it’s only two issues.
I definitely have heard of it, but that is one I haven’t read yet! Neil Gaiman Sandman is one of my favorite reads of all time. I’ll have to check it out!
Batman Vampire is also in Elseworlds: Batman Vol. 2, right? Great video by the way.
My first son’s name is Nolan Wayne. My wife had no idea what she had actually agreed to when she settled for that selection 😅
Thank you so much brother 🔥
I’ve read this order so far..
-Year one
-The man who laughs
-Long Halloween
-The killing joke
-Dark victory
*Currently reading batman one dark knight!
I just bought Batman Hush, death in the family, Arkham asylum, Batman Black Mirror, and Batman Venom. Not sure which order to read them.. Need some advice on what order to read them! Also wanna get court of owls, heard great things about that book as well.
I haven't read any batman comics. I did some research and I think of starting with batman year one then long Halloween then dark victory. It will make batman's year 1,2,3. Is it a good start?
I recommend you read this order
1. Year one
2. The man who laughs (first meeting of Batman and joker and takes place one day after year one)
3. Long Halloween (rise of super villians)
4. Dark victory (Rise of robin)
5. Haunted Knight
@@jayaprakash387 If your a fan of robin, I recommend you read robin year one right after dark victory.
@@RustyBrickStudios Is the man of laughs short? I heard it is a small comic with half the story not even about joker and about green lantern.
@@RustyBrickStudios Is haunted knight necessary? I heard it's just short stories.
On top of this fantastic list, I ready Batman: Noel every Christmas Eve.
Went here and 2 mins later bought Arkham Asylum, I absolutely love the art style there, was looking for something like that, thanks!

@@TheChumpcast I have mild version of dyslexia, reading the comic was really difficult, the way the words are written, specially Joker lines gave me headache I sadly wasn't able to enjoy that comic at all. .
Good video! Where would you rank batman white knight? Just curious. Hush is my favorite.
Congrats man! Try reading Batman ego it’s great and underrated
New sub love my BATMAN!👍👍👍👍👍
Nice background had to watch the video twice.
Thanks man. The nerd cave has been updated since. Just posted a “Mini nerd cave tour” video on this channel if that interests you. Added a lot more to the room over the years!
Hell yeah!!!!!
Lovely top but i am surprised how you didn’t put “a death in the family” out there
Love A death in the family. That was definitely considered when making this top list. Also a big fan Death OF the family. Just too many good Batman stories to choose from!!
Off topic question... What colors did you do that room in? Looks great. Want to do the same. (Please point me to a video if you have one already. I just discovered this channel.)
Hey Troy, just saw this comment. So sry. If still interested in the color I can dig up the paint can. Lmk!!
@@TheChumpcast Hey I appreciate it man it's no big deal. if you get around to it someday but no rush. It's a good thing I saw your reply so I could come back and like this video and subscribe as I forgot to when I wrote the comment. Keep creating good Batman content! 👍
Just getting into reading some of the graphic novels myself. So far, I’ve read the White Knight series, Noël, Earth One and Joker. I will definitely check out some from your list. If you have any honourable mentions, feel free to share.
Definitely get the ones in the list, also The Arkham City ones are pretty cool and Batman Damned has some nice Graphics
Just getting into comics are these contuinty novels or just there own batman and how do you tell the difference? Great vid
Hey Marco, a couple of them are continuous stories. Like Court of Owls leads into other stories in the New 52 run, Knightfall has 2 more volumes etc but these stories can absolutely be read and enjoyed on their own. If you would like to get into a longer running newish comic series I would check out New 52. Searching “New 52 reading order” on google should give you a good idea on what books to read.
I'm relatively new to comics as well, at least in a serious way. It's very confusing at first knowing what to read and when to read it. I actually feel like it's probably always confusing, regardless of how long you've been into it. LOL.
The only way to tell is to ask questions and do research really.
Do you happen to know any Trade paper backs that are a collection of the Batman stories from the 70's?
im new to comics.. so I understand that batman detective comics is the main canon? are these related to that at all or just independent storys?
Some of them are self contained stories and some are part of bigger series or storylines. Detective comics isn't necessarily the only main canon I don't think. I'm still new to this as well but just trying to help out.
Long eared batman is best
Any batman Ego Fans?
Darwyn Cooke’s art and writing was top tier. I can easily see why Batman Ego is a highly ranked Batman story within the community!
I cannot find batman vampire for the life of me
Sweeeeet
I want to thank you for making this list for us. I read three of these stories...I hated them.
Batman comics are just perverted and sick at this point. Being an Artist I find the artwork ugly in these books.
I feel the best Batman Stories were written in the 70's. The stories were good and the artwork by Neal Adams was Great. The Artwork was well drawn and clean back then.
Also Batman looked like Batman. In the artwork here he just looks like a lunatic and deranged. That's my opinion thou. Again thanks for the effort you put into this video.
Where batman ego? :(
you spelled knightfall wrong... amateur
Dark Knight Returns is 7? Lol.
Gotta disagree STRONGLY with Hush in the top 3.
U look like mandrproductions
Thumbs down for using highly offensive language 13:16
