I’m an elevator mechanic which puts me on top of buildings a lot, every time I’m top of a tall building looking down at the cars driving around and people living their lives I think of this song.

    Has our conscience shown?
    Has the sweet breeze blown?
    Has all the kindness gone?
    Hope still lingers on.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
    And I don't know why.
    Are we listening
    To hymns of offering?
    Have we eyes to see
    That love is gathering?
All the words that I've been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding
    Into one.
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
    To see my world below.
    And I laugh at myself
    As the tears roll down.
'Cause it's the world I know.

It's really sad that there's no mainstream rock anymore and the thug rap has taken over my generation and all of mainstream music. Really wish everyone else my age loved this music the way I do.

Used to cover this, back when we were playing on the same stages as "Godsmack", "Kittie" and "Superjoint Ritual", got the contract, and of course, it all fell apart at the apex.
All I have left is my Taylor acoustic and a Jackson V that never sees sunlight. This one I still pick on, in those rare moments I'm alone, and want to relive the early 2000s for a few minutes.
Then I set it back down, and time marches on.

I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why, don't know why
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
    To see my world below
    And I laughed at myself
    While the tears rolled down
'Cause it's the world I have known
Oh, it's the world I know
Yeah, I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
    To see my world below
    And I laughed at myself
    While the tears rolled down
'Cause it's the world I have known
Oh, it's the world I know
Some people believe everything is about them. Like, somehow the rest of us couldn't be wonderful if they weren't around. Well, I was wonderful before I met any of you, and I will be wonderful long after you are all gone. Life is not a competition with winners and losers. Life is about we are all in this together. Life is about love. Life is simple. Stop making it chaos and you might see something new.

What a great album. One of the few cover to cover album out there. Totally reminds me of high school and Columbia house lol

For a long time I would get this song and Iris mixed up. It wasn't until I was in middle school that I heard them together and realized they were two different songs.

I love the song I was listening to it a few days ago on the way home from work I had tears in my eyes and I realize what the song was all about the song really really hits home and it shows that you can go through so much in life that your heart desires a walking along that edge and knowing that you can make that leap anytime you want to but honestly it also tells me. That there is always someone looking down at us could be a family member or could just be an old friend looking down on us from heaven. And sometimes when we take that leap of faith and we step to the edge. It's our decision.

Then in what seems like 5 years will really be 20. Don't waste your life on bullshit like drugs. Live your life and make the most of what you are blessed with. Then when your 38 you won't be like me, looking at the wasted potential, friendships and relationships broken, and the all the hell that comes with it. Live your life and don't waste it because it goes by fast.
