This video makes me cry but it also gives me hope. The first time I saw it, one of my best friends had just committed suicide. I was so sad watching the things happening in the video to all the people and the guy climbing the building. I thought he was about to jump until something as simple and precious as a bird landing on his hand brought joy and color back into his world. I love songs/videos with powerful messages. I have major depression. Suicide is NOT the solution. Life gets better!
I was born in 1962 and turned 62 July 2024.ear buds in blasting that music and locked the world outside. Great tunes. The late 70s 80'S 90's were the best many great memories. Back when things made sense. Still here September 2024.i can relate to this song I've been there. Don't know why!
This is a great song. I heard it when I was out last night in NYC. Sitting & listening to this was a sureal experience. I was completely captivated. One of the best songs of the 90s.
Great video. The moral, nothing in this world matters but Love. And love comes from Almighty God. The world is a mindless rat race, and without Gods love, you will surely die.
I remember the world in 1995. I still have flip phone. It does not connect to car, I am unplugged while driving. Pre cell phones car phones, Pagers, and pay phones. The Good old days. Thank for the World I know, in 1995. Mazzy IL USA

Has our conscience shown? Has the sweet breeze blown? Has all kindness gone? Hope still lingers on I drink myself of new-found pity Sitting alone in New York City And I don't know why Are we listening? To hymns of offering? Have we eyes to see Love is gathering? All the words that I've been reading Have now started the act of bleeding Into one, into one So I walk up on high And I step to the edge To see my world below And I laugh at myself While the tears roll down 'Cause it's the world I know Oh. It's the world I know I drink myself of new-found pity Sitting alone in New York City And I don't know why Don't know why So I walk up on high And I step to the edge To see my world below And I laugh at myself While the tears roll down 'Cause it's the world I know Oh. I love this song. I didn't fully appreciate it at the time, as I was very young. But each scene in the video has a powerful meaning: The sad man feeling like he is trapped in a filthy city, full of routine, surrounded by other lost people.....yet he sees a homeless woman ask for help, no one helps her, not even him. As he sits down, he realizes no one helped....& feels bad that he didn't, then looks sadder still when someone tramples the dandelion that struggled to grow in a cracked sidewalk. He reads horrific news stories, it tips his sadness over the edge,....& decides to end it. But as he finally begins to let himself fall.....a bird just lands on his hand. It looks peaceful, utterly calm. He looks awed & startled & happy. I always thought the bird landing on his arm was God or an angel, letting him know its all right to stay....that they are 'seen', they're important. The bird is showing its trust of him also, a rare blessing he sees how all these events connect: The bagel he bought....he can feed his new friend. Ants are helped too. He realizes lastly that humans 'look like ants' from his vantage point, which may be how God looks down on us......that no matter if its ants or birds or humans......we're ALL important in His eyes :) So he laughs joyously at this realization & 'feeds' humans his money....& is comforted.
It's too bad the seventies. The eighties and the nineties are all gone.Such great music back in those days. Music these days are not the same the newcomers is changing it all.
Collective Soul's 'The World I Know' brings back memories of my mom. When I was 6 in 1997, I'd beg her to play Spice Girls instead she would always give in and play my Spice Girls Casette lol, but now, at 33, I understand why she loved this song, After she passed in 2005, I bought the CD a couple years ago as a keepsake. Whenever I play it, I try to hold back tears and I crack a little smile. I get why she loved it. This was one of her favorite bands. 💙
OH my..!! Coming across this amazing song after more than 20 years. I used to listen to it as a teen on my Walkman on my way to university. Although I was a metalhead, I loved it secretly. What's more, I recorded on a cassette after waiting many days to be played on the radio ... regrettably, I didn't know at that time what the band was or what the song was.
Yes guys, life always gets better no matter how much it sucks at the moment!! Great song with an awesome message. Hang tight because your life is worth everything!❤

one of the best songs of the 90s
Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on
I drink myself of new-found pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why
Are we listening?
To hymns of offering?
Have we eyes to see
Love is gathering?
All the words that I've been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding
Into one, into one
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down
'Cause it's the world I know
Oh. It's the world I know
I drink myself of new-found pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don't know why
Don't know why
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down
'Cause it's the world I know
Oh. It's the world I know
Yeah, I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down
'Cause it's the world I know
Oh. It's the world I know
