Being a farmers daughter so know about bales of forage.......mad me smile of the number of people.....I once told my mother that I could have an elephant here...cos there was a barn full of hay/lucerne.......that would feed them
Good morning everyone It's October 27th at 7:30am on Friday. Thank you for taking us on your journey as you take of my favorite animals. I think they are God's gentle giants. I am a 77year old mother, grandmother and a child of God. I am so thankful i have got a chance to watch and learn about them. I have been watching when before our baby ellie can to you. But God knows what to do with all of creatures. Praise His Holy Name. To be able to watch from the start to where she is now I know is just amazing!!!! Wouldn't it be wonderful if the people in the world would take care of each other like the animals do. Treat each other like you want to be treated. Love one another as I am have loved you. Thank you again for sharing your journey with us. Praying for all of us in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Amen Have blessed and safe journey this week. From USA 🇺🇸 ♥️ 💕
This video was very informative in understanding how the elephants' food is sourced. I especially liked the explanation by your Operations Manager of the particular grass type grown there for the elephants' feed, and how it regrows and is sustainable. I also especially liked seeing the various people working there and learning what organizations they're from. And the various drone footages really helped me get a better understanding of the reserve that the elephants live at. Thank you to everyone that works there or volunteers there! And thank you for making these videos and sharing these important efforts with the world.
Very impressive. There’s a lot of complexity behind the seeming simplicity of the elephants lives and it really takes a village. Thank you for your dedication to helping and caring for the eles.
What a great Video!! "All hands on deck"! This was a lovely surprise - great to see how everyone pitches in when help is needed. Nothing wasted too! Elephants may eat all day but they also give back. Sadly, mankind tends to just take, take and take. Thank you so much for this! Happy Weekend to everyone at Herd and Jabulani! 😊👋👋👋💚🐘💚👍🙏
Excellent comment! 🌱💚🥬🍊So true about mankind. Use and abuse what's given without a thought. Toss instead of repair and reuse. Bored with and throw away instead of donating to someone in need. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now! 😂🤣🤭 Sometimes a comment will stir emotions. 😊💛 Take care🕊️🐘🕊️☮️💟
Wow thanks for the lessons. I loved seeing everyone contributing their time to empty the truck and they all were smiling. It mist be such a rewarding job and to hear nothing goes to waste is awesome. Thank you!!
How fun for us to watch. I would love to be there helping! I've got experience loading hay into a barn, so I know it is hard work. Also, made me itchy at the end. We can see how much hard work and effort go into caring for these precious elephants. Thanks to everyone! 🥰 They seemed to enjoy the cabbage. I'm so glad they get a variety of food.
I really enjoyed seeing just what it take to feed this amazing HERD of elephants 🐘, and it takes a lot. It's hard to believe that you go through that much Lucerne in two weeks time. You all are like an assembly line and It's all hands on deck. Great video ❤️🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤️
As always , thank you so much for the education. I appreciate the insight into the day-to-day operations of maintaining the herd and the land. Everyone works so hard and with beautiful dedication!!
It’s always very interesting to see the hard work connection with keeping the elephants healthy and fed with a variety of food. So much going on behind the scenes!
wow what a surprise this morning ! thank you Adine to share a part of the way of life inside the Homestead and the information about banagrass !! this is really perfect for these treasures 🐘 Quantities are very awesome !! How much time is needed to finish the lucern ? and do you have banana 🍌 ? Elephants adore bananas !! waiting for the next video !😊 have a very good weekend all of you ! 💕🐘💕🐘🤗🥰👼🇫🇷
Appreciate Otis for explaining the beautiful Bana Grass. I had no idea grasses grew that Tall. Africa is a most amazing and diverse land. Glad Tidings to all of HERD.
Wow, a very busy crew...those bales are really heavy so everyone is clearly in awesome shape. Also glad to see Nandi is on guard at all times, doing her part.😉🐕 So pleased to see shots inside the Homestead..been awhile. Drone shots are marvelous! Great info on growing of Bana grass; nature is amazing and generous. Truly enjoyed this video. Thanks HERD for ALL you do and the constant, dirty, backbreaking work, most of which is behind the scenes. You ALL are a marvel and true angels on Earth!🐘💗🐑🐕⛈️🕊🦋🍠🍏🍊🥬🇺🇲
Wonderful video! I especially enjoyed the drone footage showing overall view. I grew up on a farm in state of Iowa, USA. I remember baling hay for our cows and all the people who would help!
What a super video! Thanks to all of you who help out HERD on a daily basis. All that Lucerne. It's no easy task! We are very grateful to you! Pisa, my Cutie Pie, there you are! I'm sending you lots of love! And there's Sweet and Beautiful Timisa 💞kisses Timi and gorgeous Meisiekind! The Bana plantation is wonderful That you waste nothing is a tribute to the excellent operation at the HERD. Thanks for sharing!
What a super, INTERESTING video seeing how so many come together to assist in the feeding and care of these beauties! I loved the assembly line!!! How special that the farmers contribute as well; SO many caring people! Lifts the spirits to see so much love and I LOVE that there is nothing wasted! Khanyisa sure makes the rounds in the paddock, so adorable🧡🥰🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘
Thk u Adine for showing and the Ops Manager telling us about the Bana Grass. Huge thanks to u all and all the Carers and helpers too. Loved seeing Fishan, Khanyisa, Limpopo, Pisa, Timisa and Co munching. Love them all 🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘🥰🐘 xx
Wonderful information!! It all works hand in hand like a well oiled ship! Kudos to the mastermind behind this well planned organization leaving nothing behind! Many benefit! On a side note...was so adorable to see Pisa only likes the center or middle part of the cabbage....and curious if Nandy got the mouse! Loved the drone!! Well done Herd!! Pat yourselves on the back for a stellar job! The world thanks you!! May abundance always be at your door...
I am always amazed at how well the orphans integrate into the herd. Spunky little Khanyisa is quite the character, I think she has all the makings of a Matriarch. The Lucerne or hay as we call it here in the States looks wonderful and the amazing versatile Bana Grasses are a great cut and come again grass. Thank you all for all that you do in protecting these beautiful Elephants. God Bless you all!!!
It is very pleasing and reassuring to see all the goodwill lending a hand for the hard word concerning the supplies necessary to feed our Ellies Friends ❤
HERD does wonders for these elephants. It's hard work, but the rewards are bountiful!!! Thank you for all your efforts! I love elephants; they are so regal!
Wao. It's one incredible operation that requires the love and dedication of a lot of great people. Adine and the great people of HERD are aweseome.👏👏👏👏👏👏
I love the "nothing goes to waste" ethos & the drone footage was fab! It was cool to see the big waterhole we often see the herd walking home past with beautiful sunsets, & where it is located in perspective of the homestead 🥰🙏❤️🐘
This was an awesome video to show what is all done for the elephants and also what they need in their diet to stay healthy and strong too. Thanks and God bless and keep the faith always. Sue M. Florida,USA 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻❤️🙏🫶🏻🥰🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘✝️❌⭕️

I wonder how well bana grass would work world wide for oyher grasing animals . It sounds like a great product for cattle . Thank you for this informative look into the running of an elephant resue and the very positive effects they can have to the world .
I have often wondered how they survive on such dry food - eg bark. The Asian elephants live in green environments filled with green grasses, fruits, vegetables and water.
I TOTALLY ENJOYED THIS VIDEO OF MY JABULANI HERD!!!💜💜💜... IT'S VERY INFORMATIVE AND I LOVE SEEING THE BIG BEAUTIFUL MAJESTIC GENTLE GIANTS OF COURSE !!!😂 😍😘🐘🐘🐘🐘💚🌳💦⛰️🌊🤓👍🏽🙋🏽♀️🔥🙏🏽👑✝️📖🔥🕊️
What an interesting video 👌. Having an aerial view of the homestead and it's surroundings made it easier to visualise everything. And it gave a great insight into the amount of work behind the scenes to keep the herd healthy and happy 😮. I wish I could grow bana grass here in Tasmania for my pet sheep 😏.
Great Thank you for the tips on the nods of the grass. Replant 45 degree angle above ground so that the new roots out of the nods can reach the earth more easily. Thanks JabuLadies and men 😊❤🌿🌿🌿🌿❤. A lot of work at the Homestead. Interesting info about Banagras. Khanyisa is cute at dinner, and all others 💕😃😃😘. Thank you all❣. Great view from the air 😍. Have a nice weekend everyone 😊❤.
That’s a lot of bales to stack. For my two horses….I stack four 80 pound bales of alfalfa and six 60 pound bales of timothy hay about every 2 weeks. I never feed grain….only pellets and crushed oats. I find it interesting that you feed the elephants pellets. I love pelleted feed because it’s easier for the horses to digest thus reducing the chance of colic. I love that tall grass you grow there…..it looks very delectable and yummy.
Is Lucerne like hay? I think baby K has FOMO(fear of missing out). She goes from one pile of bana grass to the other checking which is the best...😂😂 Great informative video and love the aerialview. . Thank you. 🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️

Cucumber, Courgette and American yellow squash vines all produce hundreds of fruits per vine. Could be an easy way to grow some elephant treats.

Excellent video. Thank you for the air view of the property I was great to get an idea of were the dams are, and how they are filled by run off. The bush looks low and very dry. Do you have a bush fire or grass fire problem towards the end off the dry season, like we have in Australia?
This is a great video! So informative! I gotta ask……does the cabbage make them fart? 😌
A herd of gassy elephants is an intimidating thought.
I am curious why the adult elephants need to be kept at HERD. I know other orphanages raise baby elephants while slowly exposing them to wilderness until they are ready to go out and find their new wild herd. So just wondering why HERD elephants are not released back into the wilderness.
I have been following HERD for quite sometime so I am going to assume I know this answer..the elephant's develope attachments to each other and choose to be together, they go out into the wild everyday and sometimes encounter wild elephants. They would have to be accepted into a new wild herd but I believe that option is there for them. I think what has been done at HERD is so incredibly beautiful... please someone correct me if I have answered this question incorrectly.
That is very true.
That was why she was slowly introduced into her new family.
It was amazing how they did it.
And when the older elephants were ready to take over the ladies can in
she was ready to go but a little at a time. She had to get to use sleeping outside so amazing. It was just amazing watch them.
Then we got a biology lesson about newborn ellie. God's plan for digestive system they are born with a sterile gi track so they are given elephant dung to get all the nutrients they need. Our Father is amazing. He takes good care of all of us in His own way. I have learned so much watching this vlog.
Thank you Herd family.
very informative video. So when the elephants are feeding timisa, pisa and khanyisa are very similar is size now what are the age differences?
@samanthadurfee5451 I can give a little info. Khanyisa turned 4 years old on September 26, 2023; I think Timisa is approximately 4 years older than Khanyisa! There are videos on each elephant giving all kinds of info, so you can find that info at HERD South Africa. I expect other subscribers have better info than I do. Hope this is a little help.🐘💗🦋🕊🇺🇲
A great organization, amazing work. And have to laugh just a little - doesn't elephant dung soap seem an oxymoron?
Do you fertilize the bana grass?
Could you please leave the words on the bottom longer I don’t read that fast
If it helps you can also pause the video to read the text they share I do it regularly if I want to ensure I have my info straight.
Who are the Jabu ladies?
