I started out with two Holstein bull calves and am now up to 30. I love it. I have added chickens, turkeys, lambs, and pigs. It took me a while to figure out your left handed hand shakes. It would appear your right is bandaged.
best video yet, this is exciting I am ready to get a cow and calf very soon hopefully next year this is going to be a great video series right up my alley bravo Mr farmer
Mr. Farmer, got to say I really love your videos. Being raised on a farm and currently working as a professional hunting guide in Georgia your videos are a great and knowledgeable example for younger generations or even people interested in the outdoors and livestock. Thank you, sir. +subbed
one tip ya'll: if you have Hereford cows, breed them to an Angus bull. then you will have black, white face calves and they bring more money than a Hereford calf because all the restaurants want Angus meat, even if it's only PART Angus.
Thank you, I'm going to do 4h in middle school and I'm going to do a dairy cow so I'm so all my research to learn more about cows and see how to take of cows properly, so thank you for you helping me. =^•^=
I was raised on a dairy farm. All of our cows were tame. Us kids ran in and out ot the herd in the pasture all the time. We pet them in the barn. We would call Come Boss and they would come to the barn. My dad would raise one steer a year for our consumption.
Our cow goes crazy whenever we bring her treats (she has food all the time) to the point when she finishes her treats she wants more so she head buts us to the point we have bruises.also when we pick fruits from our yard (she thinks the fruits are for her) so she buts us even if we dont give her treats at that moment. Any advice?
The only thing which has stopped us from getting a few cows, was finding a breed docile enough for a beginner. We've raised goats, alpacas, sheep, but they're easy for me to handle. This mix sounds like a good possibility for us........ but I think I'll watch how you guys do with them first. lol
BigC954 Check your county Ag CO OP. Depends on quality of range and if you intend to supplement with hay or range feed. I generally assume 5 acres per cow to not overgraze.
Tim, Just ran across your channel while doing a search for how to raise cattle. Which leads me to my suggestion... would you create a playlist(s) of your videos by topic? Specifically, a playlist on the subject of raising cattle, butchering & processing? Maybe another one on beekeeping? With so many great videos to look through, it's time consuming to search and in my particular case, distracting. I've spent the last three hours watching episodes on Cows 101, making bologna, "swallered teeth", math jokes, train whistles and I'm just not getting back on track with the second cow video. I'm not sure it's the second in the series, but, it's about cows... :-)

We are in the process of the next steps Dale. Here is the latest: th-cam.com/video/j2qjitYoD1I/w-d-xo.html Choosing a pasture for the cows. Next week we will be actually getting the cows!
Our show is on every week. After we air it on TV we post it on youtube. There are several later segments dealing with calf rearing, hoof trimming, etc.
Peacocks are very common. They are great watchdogs and let you know if predators are around. Plus, they are beautiful. Thanks for playing along. My Grandfather used to tell us a story about his tom turkey that they would hook up to a wagon, and would take them to the market on Saturdays. Lol.
Great video! Your tips on 03:27 were really helpful. I just posted a similar video on my channel about it, feel free to check it out if you’re interested!

A funny bit that made me chuckle because inside I'm still 10 years old
I grew up on a farm and still live on one now I wouldn't trade it for anything
Same here!

Is that guard rails for a road used for fencing? Someone's tight with the county! Lol

Nice looking cows!!
I think grassfed tastes better than grain fed but that's my preference! Others might like grainfed better.

Do you need to deworm when they are a calf? 6-8 weeks old?
Are we just not going to talk about the peacock
Lol!
How much land would you need for 1 cow and 1 calf at a time?
Depends on where you live. Call your county agriculture extension agent. They'll point you in the right direction.
about two acres .....if you are feeding grain as well....
Depends on your grass quality bit i think its around 2.5 acres

Thanks, very helpful!

THAT, was fantastic,,,,,thank you for sharing.
I can hunt, but I don't think I could raise an animal and kill it. How do you all prepare yourself mentally to do it?
Like those who came before us, easily. We know what we are entering into when we start. This is how we survive.
great system.
Todd, did you give any thought to using beefmaster versus the angus ?
Is there a second part to this video?

good
LOL I said I want a cow, and bought a cow, a Guernsey because she was pretty. I was lucky. Don't do what I did!!! I have a herd of 18 on 18 acres.
Is there a follow up video after bringing your cow home?

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
We raised gernsys.. They are cheap and to me just as good.. besides I like cheap steaks better
Jersey cow meat is more healthier than chicken meat i did my research on that it said it the most healthiest meat .😸
Why do you have a peacock?
We hook it up to a wagon and it takes the kids to school. 84 miles round trip. Amazing how it finds it's way back....
@@TimFarmerCK Very creative. Now please actually tell me why it's there.
