That whole lenticular 3D that the Asus laptop does seems very similar to what Nintendo did on the 3DS and later improved on the New 3DS XL with face tracking.

    • @lacrossev
      @lacrossev ปีที่แล้ว +45

I early adopted a lot of the gimmicky 3d stuff back in the day, and the 3DSXL was the only one that really impressed me. The hydrofoil boat is really cool, but the real kicker for me is the satellite sms texts. Love your work Michael. You're not an old man but are pretty cool in my book. Fanmanning aside, it looks like ASUS are making some interesting developments. Is this what the holographic future could look like?
It certainly ticks a lot of boxes. The main one being no glasses needed, compact size, not sure how much processing power is needed but if a laptop can run it then that's a good start.
I think watching Avatar in 3D may have rekindled a lot of interest in the medium, I know it did for me. It made normal, 2D screens seem fairly mundane. It wasn't the most impressive 3D I've seen though as I remember at a theme park years (decades) ago they mad a special pirate movie showing and during the swordfight the swords were coming out of the screen to literally inches in front of my face. Avatar came close but at no point was I leaning and whincing back to dodge a spear or arrow. It was incredibly well done overall though of course.
It'll be interesting to see where this goes. I don't want to ask how much that laptop costs.

But I am glad I did come and see this video of yours.
The Lenovo seemed a nice semi-freah approach to a different laptop..and yes.. to an architect, that Asus 3D schtick..seems to be anticipating the world of CAD thst we're going to have, in the near future.
But.. for me..what cut it..was the color e-ink foldable screen..
(Shout out to the e-ink 2nd screen on that laptop too.)
I believe e-ink tech is still to take the world by storm, although reading content is fading out in lieu of video content.

Great video. You're always entertaining & informative. Bravo!
I'd be interested in learning more about that bad-ass boat.
Don't forget to film your Adventure, please...

I feel like most people didn't mention half the good stuff you covered, amazing video and would definitely love to see another one on the boat.

You should consider writing scripts for series and movies 😄 you are too good to be just a TH-camr. Your immaculate use of language is one of its kind in the whole techtube community. Bless you! ☺️

What makes the 3d screen different from the 3ds?? I wonder if I'd get a headache still with it.

well its gonna have higher resolution for once

From what I understand, the technology is stereopotic 3D, which is exactly what the 3DS used. The resolution is much higher obviously; and I would love to see 3DS emulation on this.

Of all the CES 2023 content, you were the only one who showed the 3d laptop display. I think the Eink and 3d display are very promising. I like the QUALCOMM satellite messaging thing but equally hate it for privacy. Innocently, for emergency or camping, that would be awesome tech, but it gives me "Enemy of the State" movie vibe.

Good Work Captain. I hope you can recover from the CES marathon, so rest well.
And a video about that flying boat is something that I'd like to see.

Now you're going to have to review the HTC EVO 3D which came out in 2011. That phone did the same thing as that 3D laptop way back then. It was pretty cool. I wish i still had mine.

Yeah i mean while the technology there is surely better i don't see how mindbending it can be given the big 3D push for consumer tech happened 10ish years ago. We didn't forget the 3DS already did we?

Because resolution and display quality is far more important in VR or 3D content than usual. Just being OLED makes the experiance more immersive than it was with 3DS, never mind the improvements made since then

The magnetic accessories seem like a great way to get rid of the nose cams or the giant upward (or downward for certain manufacturers) notch you see.
