    No mention of beer? Arguably the first water treatment, instigator of agriculture, and even paid a pivotal role in the founding of the Americas.
    I can think of nothing more important.

      We actually made a whole video about beer! th-cam.com/video/ISu6ypm6w-Y/w-d-xo.html Beer is certainly an extremely important invention! Arguably even more important than the spork. ;-)

      Beer is a food itself though not a process or a device. Fermentation may be the thing to talk about here or better yet, the still, this is all about devices (hardware).

    I remember forgetting a can opener on a camping trip.
    I had to open the cans with an axe.
    It was messy, but I didn't starve.

      When I was little, my parents did not own a can opener that actually worked, and I got all the way to high school before discovering that opening a sealed can was not actually supposed to be a form of mild torture. I cannot imagine trying to get a can open with a tool not even intended for the task ...

    You forgot The NEWS GAT " The AIR FRIER" that also with interchangeable, is a pressure cooker, a slow cooker, dehydrated, and others. It is the small appliance I use the most after my stove and refrigerator, then blender (handblender and Blaster) and the microwave. That is the Hierarchy of appliances in our household, The microwave has lower ranks since the air fryer came home.

    If you get the chance to listen to "The 2000 year old man" by Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner, when the interviewer (Reiner) asks the 2000 year old man (Brooks) what the greatest invention of all time was, he answers, "Saran Wrap!"

    True story, onetime during break (so one of my 2 roommates was at home), we couldn't find the can opener. Instead of going and getting a new one, we used a pair of scissors and a sharp kitchen knife, to open an can if sauce. I think it took us nearly 10 minutes to cut a square hole, where we pushed back a flap to get the contents out.

    Wait, this is Mental Floss. Shouldn't you refer to cotton candy as CANDY FLOSS?
    And since pull ring can opening technology exists, why do can openers still exist?

    • @joanhoffman3702
      @joanhoffman3702 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not all cans have a pull tab, like canned tuna, vegetables, beans, etc. There are manufacturing reasons, like cost.
