  • The Original Heidelberg Platen Press made its debut in 1914 and with various modifications was produced until 1985. Print enthusiasts often refer to this press as the “Heidelberg Windmill,” due to the look and cyclical motion of the paper feed mechanism. Besides printing, this press can be configured to emboss, hot-foil and cut. This particular model is adorned with a commemorative 115-year plaque, referring to the origins of the Heidelberger Druckmaschinen company.
We hope that you enjoy seeing the very first batch of Patina Powerhouse stickers being die cut by Wise Printing Company, Inc. in York, PA on their antique Heidelberg Windmill. You can find them at www.wiseprinting.com
This is not a paid promotion; We simply love showcasing functional old machinery.

I work in a small municipal printing house, which has three of these beautiful machines. Unfortunately, only one works and it is a bit battered by the years (the security system, cleverly hidden behind the name of the machine, was cut off a long time ago, the counter lost its protective cover as well as the flywheel, the original motor system was cancelled and replaced by an electric one, the cleaning system no longer works, and neither does the dusting system) and it is incomplete (it lacks all the accessories, all the tools, the tympanum plate, it only has two guides, of which I think there should be four). Luckily, the man who uses it, the machinist and main operator, although I came late in his life, is someone who cares a lot about the care of this German jewel. I, his assistant and second operator, fell in love the first day I saw it working. Even today, six years after I started working there, I am still fascinated by how advanced it is for a machine that is over seventy years old, and above all, how reliable and versatile it is when it comes to doing different jobs. The other two machines need to be repaired, but they are much more complete and in better condition than the one that works, so perhaps, with luck, one day I will see them working, and be able to get a complete idea of all the potential that these machines have to offer.

Does the machine require a particular calibration for die cutting or are there specific dies for these machines?
