Trek 620 Touring Bicycle Resto-mod: Brake & Shift Check and Ride
The Trek 620 touring bike was handcrafted in Waterloo, Wisconsin nearly forty years ago from British Reynolds 531CS tubing. Borrowing the fit and legendarily long wheelbase of its big brother, the Trek 720, Trek described this tourer as a “machine that could be counted on to swallow up long lengths of road with silent efficiency”. The lugged frame featured three, count ‘em, THREE water bottle mounts and enough rack mounts to support a cross-country tour, which many did. The color-matched rear luggage rack was manufactured by Blackburn as part of the original kit.
This particular 620 “resto-mod” was lovingly adapted for comfort and convenience with a hodgepodge of vintage and modern components, including European trekking handlebars, 700c aluminum wheels, a Velo Orange leather saddle, quill stem adapter, and crank, 1980s Suntour friction thumb shifters, Shimano Deore derailers and cantilever brakes, and Biopace chainrings.

I work in a small municipal printing house, which has three of these beautiful machines. Unfortunately, only one works and it is a bit battered by the years (the security system, cleverly hidden behind the name of the machine, was cut off a long time ago, the counter lost its protective cover as well as the flywheel, the original motor system was cancelled and replaced by an electric one, the cleaning system no longer works, and neither does the dusting system) and it is incomplete (it lacks all the accessories, all the tools, the tympanum plate, it only has two guides, of which I think there should be four). Luckily, the man who uses it, the machinist and main operator, although I came late in his life, is someone who cares a lot about the care of this German jewel. I, his assistant and second operator, fell in love the first day I saw it working. Even today, six years after I started working there, I am still fascinated by how advanced it is for a machine that is over seventy years old, and above all, how reliable and versatile it is when it comes to doing different jobs. The other two machines need to be repaired, but they are much more complete and in better condition than the one that works, so perhaps, with luck, one day I will see them working, and be able to get a complete idea of all the potential that these machines have to offer.
where did you get that seat?
Thank you so much. I gave my Elna Jubilee to my daughter and hadn’t used it for over 15 years. It was jammed and I couldn’t quite figure out the threading again. Your video was exactly what I needed. It’s working perfectly again. Wonderful for a 40 year old machine or any machine actually. I always loved my little Elna.
Does the machine require a particular calibration for die cutting or are there specific dies for these machines?
Omg, love it, that was my first job when i graduated in 72,running a 10x15 heidelberg windmill, thank you for shareing.
Excellent filming & edit, shame there was no registration adjustment & pressure setting 🙂
I love this machine and the sound!
Trabalhei por muito tempo. Aqui no Brasil chamamos ela de leque
That is a Gravely tractor with electric start. Probably a "super 8" but it could be a model L with electric start added.
Thank you so much for this video!! I’ve had this sewing machine for like 10 years, have tried multiple videos to try to get the damn threading and bobbin pickup to work, and finally got it with this. You’re a gem!
This is wonderful! I'm absolutely thrilled that you were able to get your machine up and running with the help of our video! Although our intent is nostalgia and preservation, it brings great joy to have a functional outcome too. I hope you enjoy your Jubilee as much as I enjoy mine.
sons of anarchy hahaa
I got a 1978 needs valve adj.
Et alors 😳🤷♂️n’importe quoi…nul👎👎👎😤
Fiat 500😊

I can't believe this doesn't have as ment likes as it does I've always been in love with these old 1950s projectors the way you clip in the real in the way you put in the film amazing.
Awesome.
💟💟💟
Watching these machines operate is amazing.
We're thrilled that you've enjoyed this! That is our entire mission here at Patina Powerhouse. Do you have any recommendations on what you'd like to see us film next?
I like the minimal casting of the base in this design. The engine is bulky yet sleek instead of bulky and a giant immovable block.
WoW very beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!

Yes ❤❤❤❤❤
where to get this engine and how much it cost.
These are historic engines that are bought and sold by enthusiasts. Prices and availability vary greatly. Look for events such as Steam-o-rama in Pennsylvania.
18 minutes of oscillating fan…hmmm…I wonder what your view retention percentage will be? 😵💫
So far, 4.1%! 🤣. We are making an ASMR series due to requests for long form videos based around soothing, cyclical machinery audio.
I think this might be my favorite one yet! Besides the nostalgia of the sewing machine. ❤
I only see one pushrod and the other valve is spring loaded for atmospheric pressure. Doesn't matter, but it is a nice working hit and miss engine! 👍
We appreciate your expertise! We've corrected ourselves above and look forward to any other information you may have on the items within our channel.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever
This is a sentiment that our channel hopes to preserve!
*Correction* -This is actually a throttle governed engine and not a hit and miss engine. Though very similar they are different. Good eye (and ear!) to one of our viewers for pointing that out!
Nice, but this is a throttle governed engine instead of a hit and miss.
You are correct. Thanks for the info!
How this doesn’t have a bajillion views is beyond me.
This is very kind of you. We hope it gets a bajillion views someday! Helping to share our content makes it easier for us to create even more. Thanks for your support.
What a beautiful machine.. brilliant video
Many thanks! For you to call this one a beauty, knowing how many you've come across, is quite the compliment. I'll pass that onto the owner!
Why do hit and miss engines make really strong tq at low rpm ? Technical info please
As has been pointed out this is not a hit & miss governed engine. It has a butterfly throttle valve worked from bob weights. It has an automatic inlet valve which means a very light spring and the valve opens when cylinder pressure is below atmospheric sufficient for atmosphere to overcome the spring, friction in the guide and inertia of heavy valve. The slower the rpm the better filled the cylinder will be. Similarly there is no float in the carburettor, but there is a foot valve on the petrol pipe and a lightly sprung plate closing the air intake. This intake opens by atmospheric pressure being greater than vapour in the inlet tract. Atmospheric pressure on the petrol pushes it up from the tank. At relatively high speed, for example 1,000 rpm the spring loaded inlet valve hardly has time to open before the compression stroke slams it shut. The air inlet sprung plate has less inertia so behaves better thus ensuring that fuel is always at the needle valve equipped jet. The lower the speed the better the cylinder fills with mixture and the thump is bigger, eventually it will stall because flywheel inertia drops and cannot overcome compression. Before that the tendency is for the whole engine to wrench at its timber baulk deck as it fires. It is about 840cc, say 4" bore x 4" stroke. Note the magneto, guaranteed just about everything proof "For all time"! It has retard position by small lever for starting.
Well filmed, I liked the crisp clear closeups.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱🥲
It does go through the machine's veins... *shrug* maybe it is!
Music 😂
The latest beat box hit.
The rhythm just won't quit, it's stuck in my head!
Thanks for the upload. I just bought one from the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Did you get the same model? How well does it run?
It looks pretty much the same. It's says Filmo "MASTER" next to the lamp and motor switches. I don't know why they put "master" in quotes. Oh, and I haven't cranked it up yet. I guess I'll have to find an old reel of 8mm lying around. In my vast piles of stuff. I just bought it because it was in excellent shape and I love the aesthetics of its design. So I'll probably just put it on a book rack as a display piece. Next to the Underwood Standard manual typewriter. @@PatinaPowerhouse
@@drmodestoesq Stay tuned for a typewriter episode coming in the next few weeks. :) If you end up using your projector, give us an update!
I would love to see this someday its a true beauty its a shame elevators aren't built like this anymore
Reach out if you find yourself in York, PA!
Hey I worked with that guy

Amazing Cinematography!! I love these vintage freight elevators. Absolutely built to last.
Couldn't agree more. They're absolutely bullet-proof!
