    It is possible to cut and resize 223 brass for the 545. I've done it, it works well. The newest Hornady manual has load data for 5.45

    Thanks for the vid on this obscure round. I bought an AK 74 (SAR-2) in 2000, and have no plans of ditching my special gun.

    Hey Koba, I have been playing around with reloading 5.45. I am using a Lee die set that I purchased a long while back, it came with a bullet sizing die, run jacketed .223 or .224 thru it to size down to .221, makes finding proper bullets a breeze. Keep up the good work. Lee still makes this kit but it is special order these days.

    the 5.45 was actually ended up being based on a 6.5mm hunting cartrage the Russians had, and scaled it down.

    Need to make one in the 6.5MM GRENDEL WITH A Stainless steel Heavy 20"barrel Straight fluted barrel and still be able to the AK47 MAGS

    Academy in Burleson, Texas has 10 boxes of Hornady Black 5.45x39, reasonable!

    Hopefully 7.62 X39 will still be around by other countries but ammo 5.45 x 39 won't be as easy to buy or get..... AK's in general costs way more than before even more than many AR's....

    I think some people need to educate themselves on this Russian ammo ban.
    First off many of the importers of this Russian ammo have renewed their licenses and they're good for two years.
    This band is only in place for one year then it's up for review.
    Do the math.

      @@me2ontube okay I understand your line of thinking and you not wrong on that but if you go with the excuse of the supply chain what they pay for the materials as what they pay for the materials they have to sell the ammo at a certain price to make a profit.
      For anything to affect the price of ammo the majority have to stop buying it,that might effect it I should say, ammunition is not the only thing that brass copper and lead is needed for China will just sell it to a higher bidder if ammo companies are not going to pay that price more then likely.
      I think people are Panic buying and they don't understand why their Panic buying they just are.
      I get keeping a thousand rounds of ready ammo and then having the mo you're going to go train with, anything past that is really useless.
      If we have a communist zombie apocalypse and you've gone through a thousand rounds of ammo at that point in time you can pick up the magazines and ammo off the ground.
      If people are worried about Ammo being banned while you're not going to be able to go and shoot it anyway because it'll be legal.
      No range is going to allow it, and as far as going out in the bush and shooting it if a law enforcement officer sees that you're going to jail.
      I really honestly do not know where all the ammo is going because realistically, who is spending 2k to 5k a week on ammo?
      People already have overextended their spending because of those free government checks on brand new vehicles and RVs and stuff like that.

    Honestly. A historical weapon like that. I would still keep it. I've gotten a few surplus items over the years that arnt really useable. but I wouldnt sell them. Even an old canteen tells a bit of a story.
    Ig it comes down to preferences. Some people like the historical aspect but some dont care for it as much.

    In all reality for people that like to shoot their ak74 alot, I would sell it and buy a 556 ak. If it's more for a collectible, just keep it. I been a long time 545 supporter but in reality 556 is more powerful and 545 really has no advantage after 7n6 got banned(price).

    • @strelets534
      @strelets534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      556 is not more powerful, 5.45x39mm is known for having better penetrating capabilities...

    • @levinlevinallday
      @levinlevinallday 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While the loads vary, I believe 556 definitely has more power potential than 545. They both operate at the same pressures and 556 has more case capacity. Most 545 loads are just over 1k lb of energy while 556 is 1250 plus. Recoil is lighter with 5.45 but I've loaded similar 556 rounds verified by my chrony and I couldn't tell a difference with the same rifle(AR15)

  • @A.Mad.Lad89

    5.45 has a lot of hype, if it had a better following it would be able to go head to head with the 556.

    Hay koba49 - do you know anything about the website 7.62x54r,net ?? I have used it for years as a referance for different variants of 7.62x54R ammo as well as Mosin i.d. info and it is no longer up!! I keep it booked marked. I went to it a few weeks ago and it was still up. Just went to it today and the site has been taken down. Of course when I went to it last that was just before the Russian ammo ban situation. I don't know what's going on but that was a very important site to us milsurp fans.

    yes that AK74 is useless now - I'll give you 20 bucks for it - I just need something besides a landscape to decorate my wall
