Hardly can you see a Nigerian sole business owner that is different from this mans narrative about his former boss. i love king SA so much that even as a pastor i still listen to his music and cannot stop. Let baba do the needful. This man is pained and i have listened to some of his former employee and the story is not different. I do enjoy this master guiterist. The memory of his western Germany performance is still fresh and evergreen.

In one of his videos, he interviewed one guy who said KSA got 500million naira from TYC Boss. The court case was truly in favour of KSA but, the money 💰 was just in paper 📄 no fiscal money was paid. That’s to my believe.

Nigbati thank u so much for bringing back dis wonderful memories, and God will continue to bless you.
@ J ishola..I respectfully question your thought process & sense of judgment, if by listening to one sided stories of 6 disgruntled former band members whom were all dismissed ironically same day and u concluded. Firstly, l strongly object d interviewer seemingly biased questioning pattern and l am trying very hard not to believe d interviewer does not have any ulterior motives against KSA following most of this interviews with d dismissed 6 members. It’s d interviewer responsibility to verify & clarify dis infos with d accused for fairness sake.
In Baba Mathew Olojede interview, “he mentioned he got paid N1000 recording fee or so around year 1973-75 or thereabout. When Naira was 0.6kobo to $1, what did they do with d monies. I noticed dey never complained about d recording money they got, d cars gift, several global tours, & on d stage money sharing formula, & we all know d frequency of KSA stage play for those 30-40 years d 6 members were complaining about. We can easily put it on average of 10-15 shows monthly, how did they spend or invest dis money.
Finally, With d back to back bashing of KSA through dis platform, if l were to advise KSA, he should not grant his defense on dis platform. The stage is clearly rigged against him. I so much love, respect & appreciate d work Ejire is trying to do bringing back dis legends & memories we so much cherished. But Ejire, please l will urge you to moderate ur questions & expected responses. This is clearly not d right way to advocate for compensation for d 6 from KSA. The court case they claim they won & accusing him on that court awarded KSA 500million is now been contested @ d Supreme Court.
KSA @ 77yrs of age since 1963 till date 2022 (59yrs) is still on stage working very hard to keep afloat week in & out. Please let us fear God. It will be better if we all concentrate on celebrating dis legends & bless them with our prayers & supports other than trying to settle scores btw band leaders & members. Unfortunately by d manner dis interviews are presented, 99% of viewers here are KSA lovers and will not likely want to give d necessary supports needed & meted to dis great men. My submission.

This is a very balanced review. You have captured my reasoning succinctly. KSA at his peak was performing 7 days a week. Even now in his mid 70’s Baba is performing close to 5 times a week. That says a lot even about his own financial status. If he was a billionaire would he perform ceaselessly? These band men must see beyond the cloudy sky! Thanks for your objective thoughts!📌👍

Definitely a talented guitarist, agogo player and a Hawaiian pedal steel guitarist. I have no doubt in my mind that during his hey days that he was one of the very best in the trade and perhaps to date.
Thé interview itself is enlightening, educative and informative all at the same time. My only criticism is the incessant bashing of King Sunny Ade by the disgruntled 6 band boys that he unceremoniously retired from the band in 2007. Unfortunately as good as these interviews would have been they’ve been marred by the seemingly ‘pull down syndrome’ of KSA’s person. Though I do understand and appreciate the fact that their stories are to be told but it should be done in a more dignifying & balanced manner. After-all, for Abiodun Fatoke, KSA did not tell him to push drugs & take his guitars away etc. My question remains: What did they do with the stage money they made? Did anyone of them invest their monies? Up till the late 90’s even 2000’s having N10,000 was a huge amount then. These interviews must be objective rather than bashful in nature. Sorry this is the way I feel. Unapologetically, I’m an ardent KSA fan. He is not a saint but neither are the disgruntled 6 too! I rest my case! Well done Ejiire for bringing these iconic people closer to us!🙏😄

No need to take it personal coz u r a fan. Truth is that back in the day, there were no contracts,or service level agreements or compensations or pensions. Thats the truth, the band leaders were mostly selfish. They took most of the money for themselves and lacked transparency. On the other hand, the band leaders are not totally wrong coz the members were not forced, they worked voluntarily without binding agreements or contracts or pensions or retirement plans..they had gentlemans agreement or some claimed playing music for passion or fun or love without expecting it to pay their bills.so fault is on both sides.

Great interview. There is no suggestion King Sunny Ade is a horrible person but difficult questions need to be asked. Why are some of King Sunny Ade's former band members living modestly and struggling financially? That does not sit well with me. I watched Rasaq Aladokun's interview prior to watching this video and I was moved to tears. Could KSA have treated these men better? I do not think these band members are selfish and inconsiderate. They are part of KSA's legacy. Some of these band members played for arguably the biggest band in Africa and did not get paid/owed royalties. This is not about ruining anyone's legacy but these narratives are all too familiar. Potential exploitation.

Sadly pseudo 419 practices have been rife in the NGRN music industry right from the beginning. The likes of Abioro professionalised it in the 60s and 70s and I guess KSA followed the same track; given that he had no formalised written contractual agreement with his band members who were suckered for being young and naive at the beginning and most of them with limited education or exposure. KSA could easily and readily resolve these issues if he wants to rather than lavishing money on 5 wives. After all, he made restitution to Bob Aladeniyi.

It is a shame that Ejire didn't ask Pa Fotke about KSA's statement to the Punch newspaper in 2013 when he said "And to set the records straight, I didn’t sack him Abidoun Fatoke, he left on his own. We came back from an international show and he told me he wanted to start his own band and said I should assist him. “Before I knew what was happening, he went to Ibadan with my guitar without my knowledge in order to start his own band. I told him to return my guitar and when he didn’t, I had to involve the police. That was how he left,” KSA added.
Clearly KSA's story to the Punch was totally different to what Pa Fatoke, Apostle Olojede, Rasaki Aladokun and others have narrated. Both sides can't be right. One is clearly untrue.

I won't stand here to judge anyone . Many things happened between the band leaders and their members in those era which we might be oblivious of. We should all be careful in coming to any conclusion even when it seems the bulk of the accounts and stories of these band members seem convincing. Two of the three fundamentals of Rule of Law are, one, "you cannot be a judge over your case", two, " the two parties must be heard". That said, there is something common to the stories of the 6 old members retired by KSA in 2007. They all feel embittered and what they need now is help. Kudos to Ejire for the good job. KSA, ike many in the music industry clear saw these men as his staff / employees when they were in fact PARTNERS in the band and he could easily have resolved these by issues by inviting all of these people to a reunion meeting where everything can be put to bed. KSA has along and notorious track record of being elusive in what he perceives as an awkward situations. You only need to go and ask the likes of The Oba of Lagos, Evangelist Idowu Animashaun (Apola King), his supposed middle age daughter out of wedlock (and her aged mother) who had tried repeatedly for years, to meet with him to 100% ascertain that he is her biological father etc, etc. I don't in any way believe this is a witch hunt on KSA. It is a cry for help from all of these now elderly gentlemen who were wronged. Their stories are too many and too consistent to be slander. He had to wade in like 15 seconds after she started a very common song that even amateur choir will do handle so well 'ma fi jo mi yin e logo'. Funny enough, she had invited her friends to come and watch her perform, it was nonsense.
When juju(charms) is too much, it would make you progress, but the stepping stones that your children are supposed to have will never be there, people like Ahuja Bello, Emperor Pick Peters, Dele Abiodun etc will never forget what Sunny did to them back in the day.
I'm not saying anything to run him down (I even can't if I want to), but diabolical powers was so much for him, all because of money. When he pass on tomorrow, the world will mourn him and that will be the end of his lineage in music.
Fela's family will forever be respected for their greatness. Fela's grandfather was the first African person to record a church song, his father too Rev Israel Ransom Kuti was a great pillar in church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion. Songs like 'Bi mo lowo ma fi yin oluwa olugbala, oba to dami', Ipo oba dara o, ipo ola', ise oluwa, ko le baje o', 'were lo ba mi se, eee were lo ba mi se' etc. All those pieces were made by the Kuti family in the 40s.
