One of my favourite players, tough as nails but also had that touch of french flair. His 38 tackle, try scoring performance v NZ in RWC 2007 was truly legendary!
@@adammiddup-jones4563 the French do numbers differently. In French rugby usually there's no distinction between openside and blindside flankers. 6 is the left flanker, 7 is the right. He might have worn 6 a lot, but that didn't make him not an openside.
In France we called him "The Dark Destroyer" too, even the french commentator said that so don't worry Andrew, I haven't seen any offence in your title. Keep the good work mate.
What about temperament? I didn't watch rugby when he was playing but the Frogs always need an example of somebody who keeps his head when the pressure is on. Doesn't seem to have a rep as a thug as best I can tell so I imagine he was sound on this front.
Thierry Dusautoir believes the reason his tackling technique is so good is because of his background in Judo. He only started rugby in his teens whereas he was a black belt in Judo.
Not sure if you will read this Andrew, but theres a french youtube channel that has essentially taken your video, reassembled it differently and out a different music. It's called rugby o top and has already been accused by other youtubers of essentially poaching their footage. Not sure what can be done or even if you want anything to be done about it, but I think your hard work deserves to be rewarded and not let opportunists cruise on your hard work
"The Dark Destroyer" was his actual nickname when he was playing. He also was nicknamed "Titi", but I guess it wouldn't make for the best title, and "le sécateur", but it's in French so most people will miss the meaning.
Not going to lie I didn’t really think about it, but it is his nickname and has been for years, and there’s news articles from only a few months ago of interviews with him with the nickname so it’s clear it’s a nickname he regards himself as. Apologies for any offence caused however.
@@AndrewDavidForde This nickname was created by France's defence coach at the time, David Ellis. In 2007, Dusautoir wasn't very famous yet. After he put out one of the best individual performance in rugby history against the AB in 2007, journalist were very curious about him. So he answered "You don't know him? He's the dark destroyer." @@cliveuuking4602 yeah i mean hooper could easily be up there, most probably taking Dussatoir's place but i personally prefer him cause he was named the best player of the world playing against one the best if not the best Allblacks side in history in the RWC, and also made an historic performance against them in 2007 with a record of tackles, so i respect him for playing his best against the best, when it really matters
@@cliveuuking4602 oh, well the all mighty Michael Jones didn't make my top 5 because i think he is the greatest but of the old era, i don't believe that you can compare players from the 80-90s to now, cause the game and the physical trainning evolved so much, if we are going all-time then he would probably be number 2 after Sir. Andrew Forde don’t worry mate I was just pointing out the fact that it was risky that’s all. Wasn’t offended by it personally so I don’t have a problem. Love your content by the way. Have been a huge fan for well over a year now and it’s awesome to see how your channel has grown. Cheers for the reply mate👍
Heard when he was drugs tested after a game he tested positive for granite.

I'm a kiwi, but I gotta say this man is one of the best flankers if all time.
As a Saffa, This is my all time favourite rugby player!!! Absolutely loved him! IMO outshined McCaw when they played against each other...
@WRU286 i mean he played 6 most of his career and not the best tackler would say burger or collins arre above him for sure
Now ya takin outa ya ass mate

Incredible player and a great sportsman
Wasn't a Beastie attack , but he's maybe the best defensive flanker of the century.
Cracking vid Mr. Forde. The missus approves too and she wants to put in a request for a Romain Ntamack vid next!
i watch this every saturday before my game! so motivating

Most underrated flanker in rugby history.
Amazing tribute. Thank you
2007 and 2011 (yeah yeah ik france lost) he essentially outplayed McCaw
Only Joubert thinks France lost the 2011 final.
o
Oh i was waiting for this one continue like this man ! I love ur vids
Not only do you make some of the best rugby vids out there the music taste is 👌👌👌, could you do Doug Howlett next?
What an example
Dusautoir and McCaw...the two greatest flankers of all time
And Jerry Collins at 8
I’d put Pocock up there too
What about Michael?
not the biggest player but his technique when tackling was ridiculously good

Awesome player. Hard as fook.
Andrew Forde You should consider making a video of Heinrich Brussouw some day. But good job on this video. Well done
Was he better than McCaw?
Enter Sandman
A great player and a great tribute to his abilities, I wouldn't go with that title though if I were you
I reckon the sandman might be more apt, btw wonderful song choice
