These live demos are incredible, I am a pro already and I still get inspired every time I watch them. Thank you. I was wondering if Steve has ever looked at Japanese manga art and if he would do some studies on it in this channel. I think looking at an artist like Ryoichi Ikegami and his work on the series Sanctuary would make for a great episode.
@steverudethedude Even if you are not interested in manga (which you candidly admitted many times), Ikegami is certainly worth a look! He's an extraordinary draughtsman, he draws realistically, nothing to do with the usual, more popular manga styles.
Thanks for another great video! i just got your Thor book from Amazon and read it. So great especially the amount of Kirby homage, respect and inspiration! The King is dead but his works are immortal and he lives on in comic creators especially you! (if only we had some of these kind of videos from him)
While the 90s saw a surge in popularity for comics, particularly with the rise of alternative and creator-owned titles, it's debatable whether they truly peaked during that time. The Golden Age of Comics (1938-1954) is often considered a defining period in the medium, laying the foundation for many of the iconic characters and storytelling conventions we still enjoy today. Heavy Metal Magazine certainly played a significant role in pushing the boundaries of comics in the 90s, offering a unique blend of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. However, it's important to acknowledge the diverse and evolving landscape of comics throughout history.
The painting of Yvonne is lovely. I hope you offer it as a print sometime. Do you have any tips for depicting a black-clad figure in a nocturnal scene, a la Toth's Zorro? I've always had trouble grasping the placement of black areas, and since you're a devotee of Toth, who's better than you to ask? Thanks for the inspiring videos.

While ballpoint pens can be used for hatching and rendering, there are other options that might better suit your needs. Here are a few recommendations: Technical pens: These have a consistent ink flow and a variety of nib sizes, making them ideal for precise lines and hatching. Fineliners: Similar to technical pens but with a broader range of nib sizes, including extra-fine for delicate details. Illustration pens: These offer a more flexible nib, allowing for varying line widths and textures. Calligraphy pens: While primarily used for calligraphy, they can also be used for expressive hatching and rendering.
I'm a big fan of Fawcett and Rude. What a dang treat to learn from both at the same time!
Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you Steve 🙏🏽for sharing some inking skills “ Are you entertained “ very much! 😄🙌🏽
My pleasure!

Glad you are finding the demo enjoyable and educational! Manga is not an area I've explored, but thanks for the suggestion!

Hermoso video !! Muchas gracias !!
You're welcome
This is terrific. Thanks Steve!
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help.
Comics didn't peak in golden age, they peaked in the 90's with HEAVY METAL MAGAZINE offering the BEST in art and story. NO CAPES!

@@steverudethedude I appreciate the reply, but I was being facetious.

Amy good recommendations on pens for hatching and rendering ? I'm starting to get better at it but feel like a ballpoint pen would be the best bet.
