How to Root Galaxy Note 9! [EASIEST METHOD]

- In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to root the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 easily and quickly using a few tools like ODIN, Magisk, and TWRP recovery. For Downloads & Step-by-Step Written Tutorial, see my site here:

SM-N960F/DS International Exynos Dual SIM
SM-N960X Exynos
SM-N960N Exynos
SM-N9600 Snapdragon Chinese Model The following models have LOCKED bootloaders: SM-N960U AT&T Snapdragon
SM-N960U T-Mobile Snapdragon
SM-N960U Sprint Snapdragon
SM-N960U Verizon Snapdragon
SM-N960U U.S. Unlocked Snapdragon
Any other SM-N960U Note: If you want to root your Note 9 or any Samsung phones in general, you will want to AVOID U.S. Snapdragon models as they ALL have LOCKED BOOTLOADERS. This has been the case for the LAST 3 YEARS! If you did not know that, now you know. I personally recommend the SM-N960F/DS model, which works flawless on both T-Mobile or AT&T 4G LTE. For Sprint or Verizon users, you are OUT OF LUCK, try getting unlocked version of Pixel, Pixel 2, or Pixel 3, which have unlocked bootloaders and works flawless on both Sprint and Verizon.

will it not be rooted if i restore a backup? i did everything perfectly and restored a backup and it says magisk isnt installed.
actually idk if it says it it isnt showing what you had it just says up to date and then there is another option to install

Yooo Max, was wondering what *old* phone would be the best rooted? There's some older flagships that seem like they would benefit from it, e.g just got a HTC 10 for cheap.

My only question is, in your video, at minute 7.22-7.29 it says on the Welcome screen:: "You are about to run ROM with MultiTool for Galaxy Note VIII SM-N950" .. also in the next sentence Note8 is mentioned. And I am trying to root a Note9. Are you sure this will not be a problem?
I installed it on my Note 9 with the same model that you had @MaxLee but when I installed the magisk it stated that my magisk was not isntalled on the device inside of the manager? and my system update is One UI. Please Help!
I have the same problem, I have the same model and version of Android that he uses in the video but whenever I open Magisk Manager I get that Magisk has not been installed.

im using the HK version SM-N9600 with oem unlock option.. i did what is on the list and im still stuck when installing the N9 S9 OEM issue zip file.. can i just skip this part and reboot into system?
Hi, After i root my note 9, I have 2 option, 1 is ? and Magisk is not installed. 2nd is a tick manager is up to date. Even when i download the files it doesn't goes the same page as yours

How unroot to update firmware and reroot keeping your files?
I just had all my data wiped by trying it. There was a problem with the battery charging till 70% and I read that the official update has a fix, it worked indeed, but I would like to know for the future so I don't lose my files, backup is an option for sure but is possible a root on/off sort of procedure....

hey max.. im stuck at Install Zip 1 of 1 page.. when installing the N9 S9 zip file.. i can reboot back into team win recovery but if I try to install the same file again it just hangs. can i just reboot into system without installing this file?

I've done everything down to the T but no Magisk Manager app anywhere to be found. I tried to install from the play store but it does not show up. I did install titanium backup and it said "root access failed"

hey Max, I have an N9600 panama tpa in developer options oem unlock is greyed out the phone works flawlessly on Crocket (at&t) but I cannot update. odin fails everytime, samsung customer service wont touch it. can I use any of these roms being none are panama based?

Got any idea on how to flash a Note 9 duos with the dual sim firmware? Its a dual sim on the box and has 2 IMEI numbers but *#06# only shows one IMEI. I think it has been restricted by a single sim software
Ok i know its been a while but i am still trying to do this , i got stuck at the point where i selec the N9-S9 file and swipe to install, as soon as the install starts, it stucks, and i never see the Dr.Ketan logo, anyone has any idea whats doing on here? thanks

when i use odin it doesnt work it just says it completed without doing anything i downloaded all the things under the video and followed step by step i for some reason cant get past the first part since odin isnt working. i also deleted everything and started over but same thing keeps happening..

Another good video. I am getting the Chinese/Latin America N9600 due to it being rootable... sent back a non-rootable (N960U1) once I discovered the dang locked bootloader issue. I certainly benefited by watching this in preparation. There are newer XDA files on how to do this, but I think the steps are clearer once I've seen this. Thanks so much. August 2020.
Which android version is your phone? 8.0.1? I'm trying to get a SM-N960F/DS or SM-N960F because I desperately need call recording back but all the phones I can buy are android 10

What bootloader version is this supported on ?
Doing this with the wrong bootloader will turn your phone into a brick you wont be able to restore EVEN WITH EDL method.
After your root method can I still use TWRP recovery ?????? Or will it go back to stock recovery??
I'm in the US and I bought a sm-n9600 from Rent A Center. It's pretty locked down and I can't even use Samsung Pay. What can I do? Even Rent a Center has a lock on the software. It is an unlocked phone though.

@@adirmugrabithe point is simple, if you have poor cell service, but access to wifi, you can get reliable call quality via wifi.
Looks way too complicated, is there a real backup solution that will back up all my phone and then restore every post root the same way it was? Including my Google authenticator...

Doesn't the International Version have compatibility issues with T Mobile and other US Carriers in regards to wireless calling and certain other features? Doesn't support band 71 etc? Rooting and a custom rom and flashing CSC for specific US Carrier is needed. Am I correct about this?

as far as I know only the F version and the Hong Kong N are rootable

Knox is still tripped and cant be undone reroot and run a new rom to fix health why did you uproot? Once you root your committed lol

but when I do the Root again, it keeps losing the IMEI data.

Let me say that once I painfully managed to root it, some notable root apps don't work (titanium backup, etc).

Max, Thank you for the video. Update... Running my Note 9 with no root using Android 8.1.0 . This gets me the ability to run the software that I want to use. I find it appalling that Samsung, T-mobile and ultimately Google are be able to dictate what software we use on our devices. This is why I have never purchased any of the iPhone products. A good read on the topic is an article in Wired Magazine "We are Tenants on Our Own Devices" by Zeynep Tufekci 5-20-2019. To quote the article "Today, we may think we own things because we paid for them and brought them home, but as long as they run software or have digital connectivity, the sellers continue to have control over the product. We are renters of our own objects, there by the grace of the true owner." I am having a hard time getting over the fact that products we pay for can be rendered useless by the seller after we own them... The other issue is that we have no real ability to "opt out" and still use the software. Total BS. I do think that a truly free market has a future.. Imagine a TH-cam portal that was a nonprofit giving the bulk of the revenue to the content creators? How about phones that had batteries that could be user replaced and RAM upgraded, the case made part of the phone so it would not break? Cars with modular components that were easy to swap and upgrade? Health and good food instead of insurance.. Thank you again for the video. : )

Hi max, I hope I can get an answer on here. I'm trying to get rid of the "device restricted" notification on my sprint Note 9. Any idea? It's a popup that comes on every 45 seconds. I turned off all the permission for sprint apps, but still no luck. All started when I bought the phone from the previous owner, as soon as I connected it to the wifi, I started getting the warning notification.
You need to flash dm no verify zip.

Hey can I just say, these parts where you're just skipping forward without saying anything about it are unnerving? From like 5 mins on you tend to just skip through these things as if they're second nature. I understand that you're trying to keep your video under a certain amount of time but it really leaves first time rooters in the dark about what should be going on.

Max my galaxy SM-G965X(S9 plus) has refused to be rooted well with the methods that you give. Actually it will be rooted and some rooted apps would refused to recognise the root.
Hey friend I did everything you did, but when I flashed the recovery, I got fail in odin: only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed. Why is this happening?

please help
boot into the OS normally, connect to wifi. go to settings and see what date the sercurity patch is and set the phones date to before it. go into developer options and turn off auto update. now try to manually update the phone, if it doesnt update dont worry. go back into developer options and make sure OEM boot loader is enabled, if it wasnt showing up before it should be there now. now reboot your phone into the download recovery and try again.

If you can enter TWRP, do data wipe.
When ever I turn on the oem, it's always turns back off after the phone reset to factory.
