This has been the best video ever for me! I so struggle with acrylics to the place of almost giving up and am afraid of watercolors because if I make a mistake, well you know. This is the best of both worlds. many thanks for your very clear instructions on mixing of colors and great camera work. I'll try to adapt this to all of my efforts.
Thanks again Charles for another brilliant painting, and thanks again Gail for more great camera work. I really do look forward to watching these tutorials, thanks again.
just finished the horses, tho I admit that I traced the subjects, but your instructions are perfect. By using ACRYLICS on paper I have the first painting that I'm really pleased with, my families comments are "you're really getting good" so even with cheating a bit I'm excited. I'll try to use this method on all of my paintings. SO many thanks, again.
Yay! Horses on the beach! Thank you Charlie and Gail. Yeah those old boots were a fight to get off. I replaced them with a ones with full length zips up the back with little heavy duty elastic gussets down the length. Nice give and easy on and off. Especially since my legs by days end would have swollen a bit. Loved half chaps over paddock boots best. 😉 Gorgeous work Charlie!
Thanks greatly Charles for sharing how you prepare and achieve amazing details in the painting, enjoyable video as always and intrigued how you explained calmly how acrylics performs so different to watercolour paints. Thanks greatly appreciated stay safe and healthy
Thank you Charles. We asked for the horses and you were very generous to share your talent. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you, Gail for the great camera work.
Amazing last night I watched two of your videos and saw the horses and thought I wish he’d videod that. Tonight TH-cam pushed this one. So thanks for that but especially for responding to the requests. I love horses and struggle with drawing them. Many thanks.👍
Thank you so much for doing your horse painting . It is terrific. I love the way you involve your lovely Gail in the decision making. That’s so sweet. Great teamwork. Great painting.
Oh lovely!!! This is something ive wanted to paint for ages!! It was also good to hear Gail!! :) loved the horse puns too hahahah. And im all for long videos!! Id happily watch 2 plus hour videos with you and Gail painting!! Edit: to fix spelling
I really like this one, I had commented about the three horses that you had behind you in some previous videos. This one, I watched twice. You’ve caught the riders in very natural positions rather than bolt upright, which really adds to the painting. And again, very fine shadows. May have to try this one. Thanks.
Thank you Charles (& Gail) that was brilliant, I enjoyed that one very much. I have both of those books, you signed the big one for me at the Mall galleries in London a couple of years ago, they're great 🙂👌
That one is the biggest challenge yet Charles. I think a few practice sketches first. Then a day when I have the house to myself before I could attempt that one. Just when I get the hang of boats you throw in a horse lol. Great picture and demo thanks once again. Take care.
Hello Charles I’ve just discovered your site. I love the painting of the horses on the beach. You sound as if you’re from Yorkshire. I have a mom that was from Sheffield. I’ve been to Yorkshire many times it is the greatest place I’ve ever been. ❤ I have a cousin in Doncaster. I will be enjoying watching all of your paintings and hearing you. Let us all know a little about you David V
Thank you for the tutorial. I have often admired the painting of horses behind you. I think horses are the most beautiful creatures but can I draw them - can I heck as like - all the knobbly bits on the leg. I will now have another go. Thanks again.
We all need to pitch in and get Gail a nice milk crate to stand on. Just kidding Gail, you do a wonderful job and I'm very appreciative, I'm sure your arms are about to fall off by the end.
I fancy doing monarch of the glen in acrylics have you done it? Some time ago I did van goh s starry night problem was painting the dabs of yellow on blue with the swirls it started to look like a dragon !
Wonderful video Charles thankyou. As I am not at all comfortable with acrylics, I am trying to modify this slightly so that I can have a go with watercolours - I will see it as a challenge !
It's because of the difference in the binder.. acrylic uses.. well acrylic lol. Watercolor uses traditionally gum arabic, although some newer brands use synthetic glycol. Both are much more soluble in water than the acrylic, and neither dries to a permanent layer. Acrylic is water soluble when wet but permanent when dry, and can actually break down if you use it too thin.. which is why they have glazing, floating, and thinning mediums.
I hope I haven't said this before - at my age, you tend to repeat yourself. And at my age, you tend to repeat yourself. But young Gail was quite right about the horse's leg - I wish I had a Gail to tip me off when I make a mistake ... if you ever let her out on loan, do let me know. In a nice way, I mean, none of your smut.
I'm loving the book (Acrylics for the Absolute Beginner)! thanks for sharing your knowledge! Excellent video!
I’m soo pleased you’re enjoying it. Acrylics are such good fun.

Fantastic drawing to begin with, so anatomically accurate. Just fantastic
Thank you so much.
I am watching one more time! 👌👌
Ahahaha.
I find horses a real challenge to draw never mind with a rider on top, therefore it was amazing watching Charlie do this painting with such aplomb
I’m pleased you enjoyed it.

Yes, I remember. So pleased you enjoyed it.
Great sketch without any reference. Always wanted to see how the horsepainting on your wall was done.
The one that was on the wall took about 4 hours.
Wow! Your horses are perfect!
Thank you soo much.
C' est magnifique!.
Es magnífico su cuadro de los caballos en la playa!!

Plenty of practice is good. Take your time with the drawing!
great and easy-to-understand explanation, how beautiful! Thank you for showing!
Soo pleased you enjoyed it.

Yes Yorkshire born and bred, but lived in Northumberland for 30 years. You don’t want to know about me, I’m just a painter!
Thank you for the tutorial. I have often admired the painting of horses behind you. I think horses are the most beautiful creatures but can I draw them - can I heck as like - all the knobbly bits on the leg. I will now have another go. Thanks again.
Go for it. And enjoy it.
Another cracking video Charles 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so very much.
Are you horsing around again...... great art Charles. 👍👍👍😊
Ahahaha, thank you very much.
We all need to pitch in and get Gail a nice milk crate to stand on. Just kidding Gail, you do a wonderful job and I'm very appreciative, I'm sure your arms are about to fall off by the end.
Ahahaha. I’ll tell her she has to buy her own milk crate!!
This is the first time I've seen you erase a pencil drawing!. You draw very, very well!. I like your paintings.
Cristina ( España).
Thank you very much.
Amazing job 👍 👍
Thank you so much.

Yes of course, whatever makes you happy.
Absolutely superb.

@@christinalogan311 oh, thank you very much.
The horses are pretty. Thanks
Hope you enjoy it.
Brilliant! Is this subject harder to paint in watercolour?
No, not particularly.
Oh wow, thank you for this!
Hope you enjoyed it.
@@charlesevans7706 very much thank you!
Are your paints fixed with any type of medium? I wasn’t aware acrylic could be applied this thin - sky. I’m new
No sketch- truly draw whoah
Great lesson
Thank you very much.
Inspiration Sir
Enjoy.
Hi do you stretch your paper before use or after? How do you stop it warping ?
Thanks
No, I don’t do either. It’s just good paper.
@@charlesevans7706 thanks a lot
To draw those horses from your head is impressive alone
Thank you so much.
It is obvious that you understand horse anatomy Beautiful painting Do you ride ?
Thank you so much. Yes, I’ve ridden all of my life.
@@charlesevans7706 I could tell I rode for many years Not much better than a beautiful day with a beautiful horse
@@tericarter2886 can’t beat it.
I tried painting horses the way Leon Cortes did them. Very economic with brush strokes. Very difficult to emulate.
simplemente lindo.... nada mais....
That Sir is a smashing tutorial, gonna give it a go but out of my range me thinks, What’s happened to the quirky intro music?
Out of the comfort zone is a good thing.
Thank you i can see i will need a lot more practise but i have fun trying them ,
It’s all about the fun!

You smooth and cool
Ahahaha, thank you.
I love this one, so much so I tried, and I do mean tried, to paint it
Always worth giving them a go!
@@charlesevans7706 I did and I enjoyed it but, it's nowhere near the likeness of the one you did :) but thank you for the tuition

That will make her laugh!
Nice painting but you waste so much paper and it is expensive too.
Well it’s the first time I’ve had that complaint. I always need to leave plenty at the sides so I can do side demonstrations, if necessary!
@@charlesevans7706 not a complaint Charles, just an observation.
Oh. You changed your eerie intro music.
Ahahaha,
Excellent!
