Love it! At the end it struck me as odd that this is a huge issue as I grew up being taught that God is neither man nor woman and has both masculine and feminine qualities. So, like, They is fine with me.
Same- I personally grew up in a muslim house hold and in the quran god literally only ever refers to themselves as "we", so they basically use as a sort of neo pronoun for themselves. Also, in arabic god is also always refered to with gender neutral terms and the bible was literally written in the middle east so there's that!
What is it with middle eastern culture and being more accepting of somebody being trans than somebody being gay, anyways? Maybe my facts are off and if they are I apologize but seems like I read somewhere that in some middle eastern countries some people actually transition not because they are trans but to be with the same sex because the consequences of being gay are worse than being trans in that country. @@mirothegremlin
@@dontreadthisplease2416 I am actually from Germany, so I don't know much more than you either, however I know that from a religious standpoint intersex people are aknowledged as who they are but are often still asked to put themselves in either the category of male or female, because it could be "confusing" for the rest of heteronormative society (I do not agree with that btw) and according to my father there is a part in the quran that states that men should not have sex with each other, cause it would "shake up god's throne"?? Wich tbh is pretty hilarious. Idk how accurate that is tho- I have read the Quran at least 3 times and never came accross such a Suna so idk🧍♂️ The only thing that comes to mind is that one story of that big city (?) where people r*ped each other (mostly men) and how god destroydd them, I know for a fact that that is also im the bible but idk what it's called- in that story two angels visit a prophet and some random people knock on the door and say "Hey, we saw that you got some handsome men, give them to us to have our fun!" and the prophet refused, offering his daughters to them (wich IS pretty fucked up but oh well). Tbh I personally think that the main issue here was the r*pe aspect, not the homosexuality but eh🤡 And also also, it is generally accepted for people to be gay/ have gay thoughts but they are not allowed to act on them. However, there is a special rule that says that people are only punished for having "illigemate intercourse" if there are 4 eye wittnesses. So as long as you don't do more than hold hands or kiss while you're outside with your partner, technically you shouldn't be able to be arrested👍 That goes for both gay and straight relationships tho
Omg same. Also growing up, I thought angels were genderless, which shocked a friend. They thought they were all dudes lol. @@crowsinaboat Funfact: According to the Quran, Angels actually are genderless👍✨️ (I think it's that way in the bible as well, but I don't know for sure) And yeah, what you said sounds kinda egg-ish 👀 If you don't mind me asking, what's your gender identity?
7:10 yes that is a good option to just use someone’s name but you also don’t know everyone’s name. We don’t walk around wearing name tags 24/7 so it’s still not the perfect option it’s presented as. If you know someone’s name use it until you know someone’s pronouns but if you don’t, they/them is still the best option until you can ask, if you ever even talk to the person.
8:45 and that is an addition to my earlier point, the important thing of using they/them is using them for everyone and not using them when asked not to. I’ve had so many people be like “oh I use them for everyone” when asked not to use them for me. It’s still misgendering.
13:52 I really like this guy’s advice. But the idea that men are better, or at least generally better at being performative is not true there is an equal amount of performance being done in spaces with women and between woman.
Maybe he meant they're better at performing confidence, not performing in general. Because it's a male gender stereotype to be confident, they're better at performing that since they're expected to since birth. Women instead are expected to have other qualities so they perform those more easily.
the first tiktok is so TRUE :(( even though I dem myself binary... it's just a matter of history sometimes for me but also just privatly just for myself and no on else

I know 2 ppl that look like this and used to go by he/him, while looking like that First one turned out to be a trans girl Second one recently started using they/them
I prefer He/Him but i let my best friend call me they because we go to a Christian school so its fine. She sometimes messes up though lol. I just came out last year and we got close this year so i dont mind.
I think it’s also the assumption that the using he/him pronouns is automatically is a gender expression that correlates to masculinity and there if rid they aren’t transmasc or whatnot that the expression and gender aren’t correlating
And it gets More complicated when you get to less “obvious” forms of gender expression like say, painting your nails. Would you consider that a mask or Pham presentation? There’s a lot of people who would consider a mask one and consider a part of their mask identity you cannot make an assumption about what an expression is in terms of femininity or masculinity. I am using voice to text by the way so sorry for misspellings.
Also, we should absolutely be normalizing, asking for peoples pronouns, and not trying to assume what will help best validate them, because that is often going to be wrong, and an assumption based in stereotypes
I am a cis lesbian and I have so many trans queer friends, and I misgender all of them all the time, but it doesn’t hurt them because they know I respect them , after two years of trying it is clear that get peoples pronouns right is not for me , I also misgender myself every day
thats a load bs 2 years of trying??? if you tried twice the amount of time you would get a degree and you cant remember a couple of ppls pronouns????? youre not fooling anybody rn stop that
I'm also a cis lesbian and I have a few trans queer friends. However, I don't misgender them. I knew one of my friends since we were 7 and I always knew them as a girl. When they came out as non-binary to me at 19-20, it was incredibly easy to change the pronouns I used. It can be an odd change at first but you soon get used to it once you use someone's pronouns correctly more than a few times.
w-what? Do you also get other basic facts about people wrong a lot? I mean this an earnest question that would provide context as to why your friends tolerate something that is very indicative of disrespect and lack of caring.
I have a question for those non-binary people. Why are you nb? What do you wanna be? like you don't identify as a woman nor a man so are you an item then? "They" Is a plural, am I correct? Why do some of y'all use that...? Like if you're an NB and u use "they/them" are you a one person or 2 and more?
hi!! im non-binary and can answer this!! gender isnt a choice, firstly. no one really chooses what their gender is, only the label they put on that gender. why someone labels themself as non-binary could be for any reason! i label myself as such because i know im not a boy or a girl! non-binary people can be a lot of things! we dont identify as men or women exclusively, we identify as, well, non-binary, usually! our gender isnt anything, really, thats the point! were not men or women, were just people. lastly, "they" has been used as a singular pronoun for a long time! for example, say someone dropped a wallet, you didnt see who it was, you dont know what this person looks like. chances are, youll think "oh someone dropped *their* wallet". they and them as singular pronouns arent new at all! it just seems like it because now its being used more widely! i hope this helps at least a little! i know understanding stuff like this can be a bit hard, especially when you dont have the experience yourself and grow up in this world that's really hammering in all this "only boy and girl boy like blue girl like pink" kinda stuff
Even though it's definitely a bad faith argument, let me address the last part. Not for you, because you don't care, but to whomever might be reading the comments under your comment. To quote The Btitannica Dictionary, "The pronoun "they" can be used as a singular pronoun when it is used to refer to a person whose sex is not known or specified." And that has been in usage for centuries. Literally. Does "Someone lost their wallet" sound weird to you? No? That's because that's everyday usage of singular "they". And to prove my claim that it's been around for literally centuries, have some quotes. "'A person can't help their birth,' Rosalind replied with great liberality." (William Makepeace Thackeray, Vanity Fair, 1848) "There's not a man I meet but doth salute me As if I were their well-acquainted friend" (William Shakespeare, The Comedy of Errors, 1590s) "Each man hurried . . . till they drew near . . . where William and his darling were lying together." (William and the Werewolf, translated into English roughly around 1350)
We’re Non-binary because that’s nature. We want to be ourselves. Which seems to be beyond the cisnormative comprehension you made a choice to live by. They/them is also singular and you use it all the time. Try to describe to a friend a person whose gender you didn’t quite catch. 😉

Violet's pronoun discourse was great. As I've heard quite a bit, "to assume makes an ass of you and me."
