    Nice work my friend, it really helps when people take the time to put things like this up. It makes short work of the installation and gives a lot of insight to the way this stuff goes together. Someday hopefully I'll stop being a Novice in electrical but for now I rely on videos like this to help me get this stuff on the road.
    By the way, thank you for the item number because that's a big deal especially when it comes to harbor freight tools

    I installed those same horns on my Ram after the originals stopped working. The only difference between yours and mine is that mine are red. I threw the crappy bracket they supplied away and drilled a hole in the original Dodge brackets. Works better than nothing, and the price was definitely right.

    I'm gonna try it, Thanks. I was confused because positive and negative terminals are not marked on the horn itself. I have to use the relay that came with them because my horn relay is built into a SAM unit I cannot repair without replacing the expensive unit. I have to add a horn button too. Edit: These are Perfect in my tiny Smart Fortwo Passion. It used to go toot toot, now it goes BEEP! BEEP! Loud and sounds Great. Keep in mind folks you need 8 Terminal Connectors and a crimping tool as well as a 10 amp in line fuse to install these if you don't already have them. There are reports of water killing them so waterproof them. I used a board to mount them on and sealed with plastic and duct tape save for the horn openings.

    Thanks so much for your video. We are pretty much like minded....Like why do I need the relay when my Ford Ranger has every thing built in. I tried calling the help # on the install diagram to confirm my thoughts and basically got Harbor Fraight. So once again thanks. Ted

      3 yrs ago I installed these harbor freight horns...3 yrs later (April 2018) 1 of the horn (high tone) stopped working and now June 2018, the low tone stopped working as well.... Purchased another set of horns at HF for $9.99 with a 20% off coupon and will install it soon. My reason for buying it again is the affordability and has a loud tone. Unfortunately, it didn't last long enough.

      BTA 1967 did u use the relay with it?

  • @callmebackfriday2
    @callmebackfriday2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I plan to do just like you but not sure whether I need the "extra" relay, Fuse and extra Red/Black wire to battery (+) and so forth. But I guess if yours working, my should work too, if not, I guess it may just blow a horn fuse or horn sound weak due to not enough power.
    This would be for a 2009 and 2015 Toyota Corolla and not sure the Specification but I agreed on thicker brackets and painted it black. My only doubt is I believed a truck alternator may be better than a small passenger car.
    Can you confirm the horns still working and don't not issue on fuses. Thanks so much.

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you dont need the relay because your vehicle already has one for the stock horn.

    Were the wires you used to connect them together something you bought separate? It looks like they split?

  • @japjotsingh8711
    @japjotsingh8711 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the same one's from a store but they advise that you put a relay and a whole bunch of wiring to make it work and yes the rellay that came with it not even lasted for a day for me. I would actually try to wire them like you did now. Are yours still working good with just one wire connection ?

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Japjot Singh they work fine! Remember that the factory horn is already relayed. the only time you'd need a relay would be is if you're adding this to a tractor or something that never had a horn to begin with, and even then a relay is optional, not a requirement.

    In theory your idea should work and I tried it that way but I couldn't get the horns To work disconnected one horn and it would work on low or high tone by themselves but not together and I do you have a good ground.. I just can't figure out if I need to relays or not? It's just 12 V

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you don't need relays if you're using your factory horn wire. just put power to the + and ground the - and you're all set.

    I cut off the factory clip and went from there doing it otherwise the way you did it and I can't get the damn thing to work. I have a horn relay and a 10 amp horn fuse already, just like you. So I'm really struggling to figure out what the problem is.

    • @mattmgarza
      @mattmgarza 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      exact same set of horns from Harbor Freight, by the way.....any help would be much appreciated

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      with a jumper wire try putting power and ground directly to the horns. If they work, your wiring is at fault. if they don't work, the horns are no good.

    • @mattmgarza
      @mattmgarza 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      directly from the battery then...just to test it out?
      I was thinking to hook a terminal into the female end of the factory relay port that connects to the horn switch....and then from there wire it the way the instructions show. We'll see what happens. :) Thank you sir.

    • @mattmgarza
      @mattmgarza 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The horns work great.
      So here's what I'm thinking, please give your thoughts:
      I tried your method in the video, and it doesn't seem to work on my car. So my plan was to take the wire coming from the horn switch from the factory relay female (just pull it out...it appears to connect to the #3 on the original relay), pull that horn switch wire out and then wire it as in the diagram provided with the horns.
      Should that be the next course of action? I guess I'll have to find one of those in-line fuse holders, as I'm not too sure of how to run terminals to a blank space in the fuse box.
      Any help would be great. Thanks.

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take the factory horn wire and unplug from factory horn. put positive test lead from a multimeter on this wire and put the negative test lead wire to ground. have a helper push the horn in the car. you should see 12v on your meter. if you do, you should be able to put that +12v connector to the + side of the new horn, connect horn - to ground, and have a functional horn. you should not need the supplied relay or fuse, because the car already has a fuse and relay for the factory horn. literally all you are doing is replacing the horn, as if your factory horn failed and you're replacing it with a stock replacement. it's exactly the same.

    what size wire did you use bud?? 14 or 16 Guage??

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lord Mitac not sure... anything reasonably sized will work. copy the size of the wire that's already in the vehicle harness.
