Wow, a polite-sounding horn? That's a great idea! Thank you, Mark! Now I realize what I've been missing for so many years; it should be standard for all cars.
what if you also do a mode where if you press it, it says “Excuse me good sir” in michael canes voice or david attenborough’s voice saying “here we have one of the slowest creatures on the highway...”
Great idea. The polite tap tap of the honk is very common here in Costa Rica. I often see it given to thank truck and heavy machinery vehicle drivers when they give you the wave that it is clear to pass them.
In my younger days I owe him 1964, Volvo P 1800. The car was stylish and was a wonderful piece of machinery to own and drive. It came with an electric shift gear overdrive and perhaps the most brilliant aspect of this car design in the late 1950s was that it had a courtesy horn. Ever since that experience, I have wished every car has this feature. Do you have an absolutely male that is real, and would make the world a far better place Thank you for bringing this to the world attention through your platform, which has far more ability to convey messages to more people than I will ever have . I’m a bit surprised car companies have not picked up on this idea. Having a courtesy horn is a wonderful thing for people with modest, modest dispositions.
Great idea! As a long time motorcyclist (I used to commute 125 miles per day on SoCal freeways), I have converted my horns over to compact air horns on my bikes. They have saved my bacon many times where the original are so weak, people can't hear them, or just ignore them!
Adam Freiburger i would not call this simple. This requires a little more then slap it all together. Now if you don’t include the train horn and you don’t install the buttons, then maybe it’s easier

I really wish I had one of these tramway or bus horns for my bike. People have evolved to ignore bike bells completely, but react very well to that "ding ding" sound. Unfortunately all aftermarket electric bells for bikes suck. I haven't found a single one with that satisfying sound
I came here because of studies about Acoustic Designers and it makes me really happy to find out that Mark Rober too, is an Acoustic Designer :)) Like, his solution to the issue of car horns is so satisfying!
I made this project, but I used a rotary switch to select any of 10 sound files then, as the 11th sound, I added a dedicated button as the courtesy horn. I can upload different sounds, changing them all as often as I wish. I always have 10 sounds available. Thanks Mark!
The funny thing is, some cars DID used to have something like this- except it was a set of 'town' and 'country' horns instead. One for use in, well, towns, where everyone's fairly close together, and a louder one for use in more open areas where everyone's much further apart.
In most countries, it's only legal to use the horn as a safety warning (Eg. warning you're coming around a blind corner, or to prevent a collision), so "please move, the light is green" or "thanks" aren't legal uses of the horn, just as how cars aren't supposed to have random flashing lights. The intention of the law in the US also makes this type of horn illegal, but the law is poorly worded, so it's technically only illegal to use these horns on a highway.
Bro. You pretty much explained the courtesy horn word for word exactly as I did to my wife years ago. I couldn't believe it. I 100% agree that this should be standard on all vehicles. Nice video.
My electric van has too. Automatically activated when under 30km/h. But it's kind of white noise, a low bubbling like an aquarium. Not bad as a reminder that something is approaching, but not much. I'm thinking about a better loop sound for busy area (John Deacon's bass in Queen/Bowie "under pressure" is my ideal) and a super-nice honk as a "Sorry, would you mind?“ The super blaster horn is, well, interesting...

I love this idea and definitely think it would be a great addition to all cars. I know when I started driving getting honked at would scare and stress me out so much that I would just stop thinking and just mess up much worse. Luckily no accidents were ever caused and no one was ever hurt but I still think the aggressive honk is counterproductive in increasing road safety especially for new drivers.
I'm so glad I'm not alone. I've always seen people correct their driving whenever there's a horn but starting out driving at least (I haven't made a mistake like that in a while so I don't know how I'll react now) for me I'd get too stressed out and mess up worse or it would seem like I couldn't hear their horn.
Ok, let me just say that this is a really cool idea. Mark you should make a business out of this, I bet a lot of people would love to have a feature like this in their car but dont have the skills or knowledge to put it in themselves. I bet you could easily sell an idea like this to a car company and they can implement it somehow in their new car models. This may have been an idea you made just for fun, but that's how entrepreneurs are made, from the simplest things they made or thought of.
really? It's illegal to put in different horn sounds for your horn? Even if you still have the original in place? Is that a law? Just curious since I'm not familiar with it.
Thats Not Gaming It's probably not easy to make a business out of _just_ _one_ part of a car. He would either have to make them super easy to implement into cars(which is problematic), make entire cars himself(which is also problematic unless he wants to start a vehicle production business) or he somehow has to sell his idea to bigger companies.(Which is also not easy and unlikely to happen.) It's sad, but I think that unless some really big car companies are so impressed by this idea and think that they'd profit from it, I doubt that multiple car horns will become a thing in the near future.
as a musician, i thought it would be 3 different horns that are pitched at C, E, and G so in traffic no matter what you press, the car horns will always harmonize.
More like, you design it how you like it. If you are good modern engineer then it works and someone else makes it, if old school engineer, it works like charm and you make it. If you are bad engineer with out practical experience then it does not work and when installed will cause cyka blyat effect on all users.
Because the official horns are engineered to sound unpleasant so that you notice them in dangertous situations. If people started installing nice sounding horns, it wouldn't be as effective
the third horn is a great idea that would work great in the new Mercedes and BMWs models with the "Hey Mercedes" and "Hey BMW" features, like "Hey Mercedes, alert the person if front of me" and the car would do that little robotic wiggly sound
Why am I just discovering this?!? It's so awesome! Love it! Sadly, the link for the amp no longer works. Apparently it's not being sold on Amazon any longer. Would anyone have the specs so I could search for an alternative? Thanks!

So if I ever hear that horn, there’s a chance you’re driving behind me? XD
Yes

Perhaps
Considerable
Unquestionably
I love this idea and definitely think it would be a great addition to all cars. I know when I started driving getting honked at would scare and stress me out so much that I would just stop thinking and just mess up much worse. Luckily no accidents were ever caused and no one was ever hurt but I still think the aggressive honk is counterproductive in increasing road safety especially for new drivers.
More honking is better?
I agree w u. & Anyone who asks if MORE honking is less productive... has missed the point of the video and your comment. Intention is everything. 😁👍👍
If people honking at you stresses you out that much, maybe you shouldn't be behind the wheel....

Tell him!
It is a cool idea, however it's illegal in most of the world.
The person that gets the car when it’s sold is gonna be lucky

you just make it exactly how you want it"
JuniorAirplane More like "you over engineer it to the point where it's no longer practical"
Mats Moreau Then you are a bad engineer
That’s my life motto
More like, you design it how you like it. If you are good modern engineer then it works and someone else makes it, if old school engineer, it works like charm and you make it. If you are bad engineer with out practical experience then it does not work and when installed will cause cyka blyat effect on all users.
