Damian vs calb cell, Damian vs 70s forklift motor in the land yacht, Damian vs Tesla/Siemens in the panzer, Damian vs Nissan in the grey goose, Damian vs gearbox in the red arrow(when he connected a Tesla module) now Damian vs Prius ... sort of scared what might be next as it could make a really Big Bang!! All joking aside keep it up as the potential is huge, but remember to take it easy so ticker stays ok.

I've seen one of those metal-clad resistors explode violently when grossly overloaded

Anything will explode if you can force enough amps through it. :)

Nicely done! Is the inverter going off the current sensor on the phase leg, or is it using some other means, like the voltage drop across the IGBT? Would you have the same result on the top leg?

Dumbing it waaaay down for us non EEs, what's the takeaway from this in terms of net specs and performance of someone DIYing using a Prius inverter? Am I correct in assuming that we can use 300-ish volts and now ~350 amps to drive a 3 phase motor from MG2?, and ~250 amps from MG1 (can these be added to produce 600 amps @ 300v total to the motor?). Could someone layout the use case we're kind of expecting?

@@KevinSharpe Thanks. I do my best to keep everyone informed about their options so, it'll be more than just me that it helps summarise.

I see the possibility to build a really nice welder based around a Prius inverter. With a battery, it can even deliver the kind of power only available with a 240V connection, while only requiring a standard 120V outlet to recharge.
I'm interested in building a "zero export" (because exporting to grid involves a lot of hassle to be able to get paid for it and the rates often aren't too attractive nowadays) grid tie inverter/UPS for a solar power system. A Prius inverter would definitely be overkill, but they seem to be cheaper than trying to build an inverter from scratch.

Hello Damien! Can you please provide me the pinout for the GEN2 Toyota Prius Inverter (both inverters and also the DC-DC converter)? Thank you very much!

296 Motor Inverter Current Sensor Malfunction. Motor inverter current sensor malfunction (W phase sub sensor). Got this code in my son's car. You saying he pulled over 260amps to flip this code? Or is the censor bad? Since you have been inside the Prius inverter, where is the current censor and how easy is it to fix?

Maybe a couple thick brushes would would help make resistive contact would work better? But you sometimes gotta use what you got!

My guess of 410A was a little optimistic - though I wonder if the highlander/RX inverter converter is capable of much higher current than gen II Prius, if at all.

How is this safe? I read that 0.01 amps is dangerous.

so this is what I'm hearing.
if it has pulse-width modulation and is able to Output a heck of a lot of current over 600 to 900 amps then this would be the perfect subwoofer amplifiers that correct?
because that would be really cool I mean if you think about it this would make a really good Tesla coil speaker driver.
it seems like the rotary subwoofer may also get a pretty good upgrade out of this.
