Man, this takes me back to my childhood, when we could go to the local airport and watch the Delta DC-7B's come and go. I always loved the sound of those Wright Duplex Cyclones cranking and the sight of those clouds of oil smoke!!
On a cheery note I'll be buried literally right across the road from where this beauty fired up in The Saint Charlies Cemetery. The airport used to be part of Republic Aircraft. You know where they made the P47 Thunderbolt, the F105 Thunder Chief and the A10 Thunderbolt II. To name a few. Farmingdale is just the town in the middle of Long Island NY. This location is just a stones throw from Grumman Aircraft, I'll let you look up all the great planes they made. It's all gone now. But it was there when we needed it.
Flew these back in the late eighties awesome Birds got about 1000 hours in a 7B I miss it! Engines could be pretty delicate 100 LL had to be careful at TO power thanks for the history

Very typical for airline service. Start sequence 1, 3, 4, 2. The #2 engine left off in case there was a last-minute boarding procedure, and to allow any ground personnel to exit the aircraft safely prior to departure.
Ottavio Piedimonte I’m sure the startup sequence is due to one engine being responsible for hydraulic pressure. An infamous MSP ground collision between a NWA DC-9 and a NWA CRJ was due to the DC-9 pilot shutting down #2 which provided the hydraulic pressure causing a loss of control. The 9’er plowed into the smaller jet as it was boarding at the gate.
I believe that Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles were type-rated on this very aircraft, or I may be mistaken after having channel surfed too slowly, and got "jammed" by CNN"??
@@mozard7368 It was painted 100% Eastern but was leased by ABC for some scenes of the series Pan Am. They painted it on one side with the Pan Am livery for filming. Then painted it back (I believe)

Those guys in front of the aircraft really don't have a clue about what they are doing. To begin with: no chocks, which is stupid. Believe me, you won't believe your eyes when something big and powerful like a large aircraft lurches forward, towards yourself, unexpectedly. At 1:26 he points his finger to engine number two with one hand and sticks up the thumb from his other hand, obviously meaning that number two is clear for turning the prop and start-up that engine. But then.... the flight-deck crew starts-up number three, the engine where he is NOT paying attention to. And number three is on the side where the belly-doors are located, so if this was a real pax-carrying flight with bags and all, there could still be someone closing up or checking. I think they never learned about the usual hand-signals which were widely used for visual start-up procedures, the ones when you are not connected with a headset to the cockpit crew. And the useless walking from left to right, forward, backwards again, talking to a mate who is filming with his cellphone..... When the red beacon starts turning or flashing, everyone who has nothing to do with the start-up procedure should leave or be removed from the vicinity of that aircraft. That is what it is for, in the first place. Amateurs, they should be glad that this is not at a busy ramp with all sorts of equipment standing around, and working people doing their work. This sort of ignorance can cost lives, with those big props, the local turbulence and propwash they cause. This really looks very unprofessional, too casual. I've never seen an aircraft start with the chocks still on; they get pulled when they get ready to close the door and depart. Think about all the different kinds of aircraft line techs work with and how dangerous it'd be to run behind or in front of running engines to pull chocks which themselves could be hurled across the ramp as FOD. The line tech marshaling the aircraft starts far enough from the aircraft to not be hit if it does lurch. If it moves that much, the pilot must be failing to hit the brakes.
Look at that scrap rope lying all over the ground 😂😂😂 and those high-vis sacks of shit not picking any of them up. This is so hazardous i cant help but laugh. What do you guys wager would happen if those rope bits got wrapped around the prop axle?

DC-7 with Allison T56 would have been awesome but would have delayed introduction. Even with turboprops, DC-7 days were already numbered.

Qantas never flew DC7s. Only Constellations, which were all gone by 1967.

I'm agree. I know the starting sequence is 3-4-2-1 why the n.3 supports the hidraulyc and the electric systems.
