    This is not a traditional Irish song. It's written by the brothers Rory & Calum Macdonald, cofounders of the Scottish band Runrig and first performed by them in 1987. At the end of this video Séamie O'Dowd gives props to the writers.

      Yeah, "traditional" and "rocket to the Moon" are categories that really don't overlap for temporal reasons... at least in the first few centuries of this millennium...
