Warning-maestro at work.Entitled to their opinion but I have often heard criticism of the likes of Martin Hayes also from the guardians of purity. They are performers doing what all artists should strive for .Freshness and vigour of approach.Magnificent .
Normally I don't like to hear players getting too 'fast and loose' or even 'slow and loose' with traditional tunes, but these three make me realise that if it's right, it's absolutely right. And when they play it sounds so natural and instinctive that it can only be the result of playing these tunes for years and years and loving what you are playing. Sublime.'
Cathal, Thank you so much for your signed poster of the band, now enjoying a prime position in the Shamrock Bar Pattaya, and a great inspiration to my fiddle molesting progress !
I wish the camera man and the sound engineer would get together when deciding where to put those bleeding great microphone stands. Great playing, but I would like to see what's going on.
Well fair play to ye shams, tis more than glooming, much more. As Tansey would say a RFS to ye boys - Royal Fucking Salute or a Reel Flute Solo. Beautiful .....
It's a type of Irish dance tune, always in a dotted 4/4 time. However this first tune, which is a very common Irish hornpipe, is masterfully treated here in a much smoother, sultry rhythm than what is commonly played at sessions. If you listen to standard versions of it and compare to this, you'll hear the genius in Cathal's rendition, it's breathtaking.
So this is what world class musicians look and play like. :).
THIS IS MY 'NEW' FAVORITE TUNE....DESERVES A GRAMMY NOMINATION...!

The most tender a hornpipe ever played I think.
Yes, it's an extraordinary transformation. Just think what he would do with other session standards.

Завораживающая музыка и исполнение,
I wish the camera man and the sound engineer would get together when deciding where to put those bleeding great microphone stands. Great playing, but I would like to see what's going on.
Anyone know if he has the fiddle tuned up to Eb?
i think so, I'm just learning the tune and I've had to tune my fiddle up, unless he's using some sort of the amp that can change the key?
Cathal plays in Eb tuning most of the time.
GOOD QUESTION...IT IS IN Eb....I';M GONNA TRY TO LEARN IT IN THAT KEY....
❤️🙏
Upyahboyyah!!! 😀
