    To be honest, I have had a 8100, 8280 and 8200 (keeping the 8200). But I've never found them to be unreliable. I've had more trouble with tube amps than these hybrid beasts.
    Chuck forever. 🖤

    Very helpful review and demonstration! Small correction: There’s not a ton of Valvestates around because they were never very popular! One of their main uses was touring as they proved to be much more reliable than the JCMs many were using. Still it’s an amp that never got a lot of shine until Chuck staunchly endorsed them.

    Guitars on Suffocation's Pierced From Within was an 8100 - doesn't get any more brutal than that

      And later used the awesome VH140C. Both run shit for that 90s death metal sound.

    • @colelewis9940
      @colelewis9940 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually they're not. It was a zoom pedal creating the distortion into the valvestate poweramp. Like saying someone playing a amptweaker tight metal through a princeton got their brutal metal sound from a princeton. They didn't.
      They quickly switched to the ampeg vh140c that suits the suffocation sound better, 8100 is a great amp but isn't right for their sound.

    I bought an 8080 new in 1995, still have it. Just had to replace a capacitor in 2005 (I think), and that's it. I still love it, but yeah it's best for metal or anything 80s onwards

    IDK but may I have problem. I think it makes your tube amp sounds like solidstate drive.

  • @metalgear74
    @metalgear74 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    All solid-state? No it has was a hybrid with a single 12ax7 tube in the pre, and that is what dies on you after a few months. Happened to me too. Got mine as soon as they came out and it dies shortly after, but that was a super cheap fix in amp terms.

  • @andresilvasophisma
    @andresilvasophisma 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jus a quick correction, Valvestate amps weren't all solid state.
    The 8100 had a velve in the preamp, the power section was solid state.
    And they waren't that unreliable.
    Know a guy that's been playin one for at least 20 years.
    The shell of the amp its all destroyed from people stomping it/spilling drinks/leave cigarretes on top of it/etc.
    It has a busted knob but apart from that is still works.

    Hey Fluff, I have an unrelated signal chain question - did you put the Maxon before the Martyr in the loop, or run it into the amp input? (Can’t tell if it’s the same patch cable)

    • @lukehenderson436
      @lukehenderson436 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think he put it in the loop; he bypassed the Jubilee"s preamp section by running into the effects return/ power amp input. So 808, Martyr, power section.

    • @GugaRamone

      The tube in the original 8100 is replaced with two transistors in the pedal. The tube in the original amp was essentially a buffer and didn't really do anything to the tone. The majority of the distortion comes from LED clipping diodes.
